  Highly recommend Black Hills Tour Co.! We did a week long private Mickelson biking tour with Black Hills Tour Co. and it was great. They customized to fit the needs of our group and were nimble and adaptable each day as our plans evolved. Support was excellent with minor hiccups that came up (flat tire, minor bike accidents, etc.). Would definitely use them when we're back in the area. We even added an extra day at the end for those with late departing flights. Excellent experience!

  My wife and I started doing guided bike trips around the world in the early 80’s before it was a thing. Kevin provided one of the best experiences we have ever had.   Just completed the Four Day Mickelson Trail bicycle ride. I can't say enough good things about our guide/driver Gage. He was on time, courteous and accommodating. His engaging personality and knowledge of the area helped make our trip memorable. The accommodations were excellent, the 1899 House in Deadwood was fantastic, as was the Bavarian Inn in Custer.   10/10 Highly Recommend! A fun, active way to take in the beauty of the Black Hills. And the finish in the cute town of Hill City was the perfect ending. Our guide, Joel, was super friendly & accommodating - taking pictures (of us riding) at spots along the trail. We thoroughly enjoyed this trip and would definitely do it w/Black Hills Tour Co. again.

  College friends recommended we visit South Dakota. They highly recommended. we take E bike tours with Black Hills Tour Company. Our private guide Steve took us on both. Steve was friendly, knowledgeable, and patient. Though my husband had ridden an E bike before, this was my first experience. It was a bit scary at the start, but I quickly got used to the bike and strategies for making the most of the gears in a variety of situations. The bikes were comfortable and easy to get used to. The scenery was phenomenal. The Mickelson Trail was so picturesque, crossing over cute bridges along streams that course through the terrain, the Badlands reminded us of what it must look like on the surface of the moon. Steve provided delicious picnic lunches each day that we enjoyed while taking a midday break. First of all, you must visit South Dakota… It is really a place you need to see. Second you must book your bike tour with Black Hills Tour Company and don’t forget to request Steve as your personal tour guide. You will be glad you did!

  Awesome 2 full days with Joel riding bikes and exploring South Dakota. Riding the Mickelson Trail was special and seeing the sights was icing on the cake. Joel was very friendly and knowledgeable. Great service, every need was taken care of. Highly recommend.

  First time to South Dakota and this trip was awesome - better than expected the trail amenities, company support and weather. The scenery was fantastic, which was expected. My husband and I rented the NORCO gravel bikes and they were just fine; brought our own pedals and saddle bags. It was a do-it-yourself trail ride and easy with many shelters on the 109-mile route - cold water, shade, bike tool stand and shelter at dozens of these areas. Would do it again!

  My husband and I spent a lovely day biking on the Mickelson Trail with Steve as our guide. Steve did a great job suggesting sections of the trail that we would enjoy and gave us several options to choose from after lunch. We stopped at a trailhead and enjoyed a picnic lunch which tasted great because we were hungry from all the riding! Steve provided insights about the area and other tidbits that helped us better understand this beautiful area.

  

  

  

• Self guided Mickelson Trail tour

  The 4 day self guided Mickelson Trail bike trip was excellent. Black Hills Tour Company made all the arrangements for shuttles, bike rental and lodging, all we had to do was get on our bikes each morning and ride. Our luggage was waiting for us each evening at our lodgings. Each nights lodgings were clean and comfortable. We added the optional Mt. Rushmore guided tour on the 2nd afternoon. Our guide Kevin was knowledgable, entertaining and accomodating. While at Mt. Rushmore I lost my wallet, I didn't discover this until I returned to Hill City after the tour. When I contacted Kevin he searched the van and when he did not find it he offered to take me back to Mt. Rushmore to look for it. I opted not to do that, so he said he would have another guide inquire about it in the morning. I was very grateful for his efforts. Fortunately the wallet was found and returned to me the next day by one of the Park Rangers at Mt. Rushmore. Jim our shuttle driver was also great. He was very knowledgable of the area and it's history. I would reccomend Black Hills Tour Company for your adventure on the Mickelson Trail.

  My wife and I did a custom 5 day tour, which is to say, it was just us and the guide. We are both 75 years old and are experienced bikers, but, needless to say, we are on the downside of our touring career. Our guide, Randy, turned out to br not only very knowledgeable, but adaptable and understanding of our limitations. We were able to do the whole Mickelson Trail over 3 days, which was our major goal in visiting the Black Hills. On day 4 we tried to do the wildlife loop in Custer State Park, but the uphills proved to be too much for us. We put the bike in the van and finished touring that day in the van. We got to see all the major sites in the Black Hills while swapping stories with Randy. We considered biking the badlands on day 5, which Randy thought was within our capabilities, but the temperature was predicted to reach 105 degrees that day, so we demurred. Instead we did a cave tour and visited the mammoth site (air conditioned). All in all it was a wonderful week and I won’t highly recommend this company.
