Too hot too commercialized too crowded

3.00The weather was overwhelming at over 100. The quide was very sweet but both location were so pack d you couldn't breath. Both location are so packed with over commercialization like huge gift shops it was like being at Disney land. The security checks were ridiculous-'occurring at every 3 yards. With the steel Gates at all the entrances 5 checks was ludicrous once you get through the metal detectors. The heat was over whelming as was the over 1000 people packing the place.

5.00Bianca was insightful, quirky at times which kept us on toes, but overall really great at explaining everything.
Excursion lasted 3-5 minutes before a thief cleaned us out. No ID no excursion!

1.00We were gathered at a meeting place where the organisers sold us bottles of water, 3 minutes before taking us to a free water dispenser! However while paying for the water, we were monitored by pick pockets who then new where our purses were hidden, it then took but a few seconds for them to unclog my wife’s bag & open 2 zips to get into the concealed compartment containing her purse. If it had been a random pick pocket, they would have first seen her iPhone instead the purse & designer sunglasses were targeted. Without her purse containing our cash, cards & driving licences, we were not allowed to continue the excursion because we no longer had id’s. The thieves clearly hang around the meeting points to choose their targets.

5.00Highly recommend this tour! Our guide Alessandra is super nice, professional and knowledgeable about local history thru key points of interest. Lots of nice spots for photos. Be ready to walk up and down the hill and stairs and bring an umbrella during summer. A little difficult to find the meeting place; had to ask around…. It’s at the Crown Tours office to check-in not at a tent outside the Colosseum. Easy and fast check-in. Need an ID to get inside the Colosseum. Supplier emailed few days before the tour that ticket no longer have arena access due to logistical reasons and was replaced by VIP small group upgrade (maybe less than 14 people in our group). Overall excellent tour!

5.00Eugenio (Gene) was terrific. On June 29, the heat wave and a large group were challenges for this 12n. group, but Eugenio imparted impressive knowledge, sharp wit, and a true gift for teaching in story-narrative fashion. His pace was also admirable with a large group of diverse, physical capabilities. The efficiency of having an experienced tour guide like him was well worth the money. Thank you Crown Tours. Your staff and operation were well organized and prompt.
