• Lovely day trip to Delphi

  We were collected on time from our hotel and it was a comfortable drive to Delphi (we travelled in the August heat so that is saying alot!). George was friendly and told us much about what we were about to see on the way to the site which was useful to know. He also drove us to an amazing restaurant in Delphi town after the site and museum visit. The food and the view both breathtaking. He really listened to our interests and stopped in a cute village on the way home where I wanted to do some shopping and, nearing Athens on the return, offered a slight detour to see Plato's school (we were too tired by then but i was a kind offer!). The only thing I would say is, especially for the price, I misunderstood that we would have a licensed guide taking over to walk us through the site on arrival but we had to explore it on our own. I therefore downloaded an external audio guide but it was terrible and I felt a bit envious of other families or small groups walking around with a guide really helping them to imagine what used to stand on the site and how ancient people used Delphi. My kids preferred it that we explored on our own so it worked out well overall! The experience as a whole was really great - a professional service and very comfortable. Thanks, George!

  From the outset we were provided with a professional service, the response from enquiry to booking was swift and all details clear. We were collected from our hotel by George, he was on time and immaculately dressed, the car was exceptionally clean and a perfect temperature. George was an amazing guide, we originally only booked the full day tour to Delphi and Thermopylae but his attention and knowledge throughout the first day was so outstanding that we also booked the Athens sights and Cape Sounion tour for the next day. George made all the arrangements for us and even gave us great recommendations for places to see and eat for that evening before returning us back to our hotel. The next day was just as great as the first, he got us to all of the sights at the perfect moment to get the most out of the day! We only had a couple of days in Athens and wanted to make the most of it, thanks to JG Athens Tours and especially George, we certainly did that!

  John was a great! He kept saying he wasn’t a professional tour guide, but I beg to differ. The drive up was smooth, they had plenty of cold bottled water for us to drink. We made a few stops along the way at the WW2 Memorial Site and to take some pics. Delphi, The Museum, The Temple Of Athena were all great places to see. He took us to lunch at a great place. The food was fantastic, the view from the cliff side into the valley was more fantastic. It was a great Day.

  

  

  

  

  

  

• Magic Delphi

  Delphi is a site full of magic and inscribed in a prodigious nature. This is the place of pilgrimage to the Temple of Apollo. The site is very evocative because it has been restored in a very beautiful way so that the different buildings reveal themselves. The theatre is small but very pretty (it is the Roman version) and at the top appears the stadium. My family and I called on a private tour guide, Georgia Hasioti, who gave us a first-hand look at the history of this site. I recommend a guided tour, it will be much more rewarding. Be careful though because it is steep and people with reduced mobility will not be able to visit. Below the main site, you can visit for free the small shrine of Athena, the Pronaia.

  We got picked up by our driver cum guide George from our hotel in Athens. A very courteous and well behaved person, his service was impeccable. I called in the morning by 10 and by 11.45 we were on our way to Delphi! On our way George gave us a brief lesson on Greek mythology. He is very knowledgeable and could answer all our questions. He took us to a Greek restaurant Taverna Vakhos after the visit to Delphi and the food was excellent, All in all it was an enjoyable trip.

  My partner and I feel conflicted about writing this review, because in a way, we liked John. He was knowledgeable, entertaining, and seemed nice enough. He provided us with plenty of water and got us to Delphi before most other tourists, making for a more pleasant experience at the sight. Even so, our experience in total was a negative one, so we felt like we had to add to the otherwise overwhelmingly positive reviews. We booked the 1-day trip to Delphi with John as a driver, and we can confirm the driving behavior Stewbob17 mentioned in their 1-star review from 2015. However, I never personally felt unsafe, and I am sure that John would have slowed down and checked his phone less frequently if we had brought it up, so this wasn’t much of an issue for us. However, John has some incredibly problematic views, which he kept on bringing up completely out of nowhere. The opinions he expressed made us incredibly uncomfortable, and included (but weren’t limited to): - White people and people of color should not get married or have children together - Lesbian parents are pushing their children towards thinking that they are transgender - Gays and lesbians on Mykonos are frequently having sex in the streets to show how proud they are of being LGBTQ+, something John said isn’t an issue with heterosexual people Him continuously bringing opinions of this sort up made us incredibly uncomfortable, especially since the previous conversation never had anything to do with it, and it definitely left a bitter taste in our mouths about the entire day. I’m sure John would claim that we didn’t say anything in the moment, but we did tell him we disagreed, and we would have loved to just stop our tour with him then and there, but we had no alternative way of getting back to Athens from Delphi, so we didn’t feel like we had a choice. The tour itself was exactly what we expected, but we personally cannot recommend John himself as he made us extremely uncomfortable, and we would have booked elsewhere had we known about this behavior, so we felt it necessary to write a review.

  My husband and I come to Greece every year to see family but this year we were able to bring 6 of our closest friends with us. The private day trip to Delphi was an absolute highlight of the trip! The driver was so kind and accommodating stopping when requested and taking pictures for us and the drive itself is absolutely beautiful! A few hours up through the mountains to finally reach Delphi which was just stunning. A great bonus of taking private transport is that you beat the huge tourist buses and get to explore Delphi’s ruins at a more quiet point in the day. After exploring the ruins and museum we were taken to a lovely restaurant for lunch with delicious food and an incredible view of the mountains. The van was also very comfortable, clean and air conditioned and we were able to play our own music. Weeks later our group still talks about the experience. We look forward to utilizing JG Athens Tours in future vacations!
