  Auriel was an incredible guide! The group of porters were outstanding! The chef and assistant chef made delicious meals and no one was ever left hungry. I loved how much information Auriel shared with us, I feel like I learned so much. This was by far the best way to trek the Inca Trail.

  Jose arranged a private 2 day itinerary for Machu Picchu for two of us. He was with us from 5am on day 1 and until we got dropped at Cusco the following day late night. Everything for meticulously planned and arranged. Pickup, train tickets, food, snacks, night stay and excellent dinner at Agua caliente, etc. were arranged as he described to us upfront. During our hike to Machu picchu and Hynapicchu, he took time to explain the history of the place and relevant cultural facts and make our hike effortless. We will highly recommend Jose and his organization for exploring Peru.

  Peru By Locals Review We had the most amazing trip with Peru by Locals. From our first contact to our arrival in Cusco; Jose (the owner) was a great communicator, helping us plan the best trek, and making sure we were prepared for our time on the Inca Trail. We did the private 4 day, extended Inca Trail Trek to Machu Picchu. Our guide, Auriol, was incredibly passionate about his work. He has a degree in history and tourism, has extensive trek experience and lives locally in Cusco. He also speaks Spanish, English, and the local native language, Quechua. This combination made his the perfect guide. He was able to help us set a great pace each day, tell us about the history of the area and each archaeological site we visited (over 8 along the way to MP), and he has a vast knowledge of the flora and fauna and was able to identify many unique plants and trees along the trail (including wild orchids!) The Porter crew with Peru by Locals was also so wonderful. We had a crew of seven porters come along the trail with us. They carried and set up our campsite each day, along with all the food and mobile kitchen. Our chef was phenomenal. We had a hot breakfast, lunch and dinner each day. All made from scratch at the camp. Lunch and dinner comprised of hot soups, delicious dishes of rice, vegetables, and protein. Every meal was different and kept us fueled for the trek. The Porters are all from local mountain villages and were so kind. Auriol and the Porters made sure that we had everything we needed each day and our trek could not have gone more smoothly. After reaching Machu Picchu, we said goodbye to our Porters and spent the night at the Hatun Inti Hotel in Aguas Calientes. This was a great stay with large showers and comfortable beds. Auriol took us out to dinner at a local restaurant which was very good. The next morning, he took us on the full tour of MP providing so much information that we left with a great understanding and respect for the Incan culture and civilization.   This will be one of the most memorable trips we take. Peru by locals made every part of our trip special. We had a very full list of activities we wanted to accomplish and Jose made each one possible. The Peru by Locals team was dedicated to prompt friendly service that exceeded our expectations. We traveled to Machu Picchu, hiked Wayunua Picchu, mountain biked to the salt mines, completed a four day backpacking trip to rainbow mountain, and summitted Jhampa Mountain. Jose was patient and set a reasonable pace for us to accomplish the trip with no issues with altitude. Jose made us feel comfortable and was very knowledgeable on all aspects of the country, local foods, history including deep knowledge of Incans - he was the perfect tour guide for both adventure and history.   Me and my girlfriend just finished the short Inca trail to Machu Picchu (2days/1night) and it was definitely a once in a lifetime experience. Our guide Auriol was very professional and helped us through from the beginning to the end of our adventure. He was very on point with our tickets/permits for entry through certain check points along the trail. For us being English speaking it relieved a lot of potential stress that he had everything ready for us each step of the way. The hike (first day) was challenging as we essentially climbed up a 3000m mountain and the humidity also added to the difficulty. That being said I found it to be well worth the sweat once you’re able to see all the mountains surrounding the Inca trail and the archeological sites along the way. The view from the Sun Gate in particular was absolutely unreal. Auriol also pointed out a lot of flora as we went and was very knowledgeable of the history of each of the sites we stopped at on the trail. When we were actually in Machu Picchu on the second day we were able to casually walk through and enjoy the views. Auriol gave a very thorough history from the discovery of the city to where it stands today. I would highly recommend Peru by Locals to anyone looking to hike the Inca trail and visit Machu Picchu!

  Peru by Locals is incredible. They can handle groups of all sizes and types of people. Their patience and expertise are unmatched. Jose truly cares about his community and the Quechua community from which he comes. It shows through in every aspect of how he treats his staff. That same respect and care extends to his guests as you become part of the community. I have traveled with Jose and Peru by Locals many times and I ALWAYS recommend him to other travelers.

  If you are looking for a sustainable tourism option that supports the local community in Peru, this is your best bet! The closeness of Jose and his team with the local community is what really helps set this experience apart from other tour operators. This is the fourth time I have traveled in Peru with Jose, and I have never been disappointed. I take groups of high school students to Peru every few years for a trekking and cultural experience, and Jose and his team are always exceptional. Apart from touring sites in Cusco and completing the Inca Trail Trek, Jose also provides us the opportunity to visit a local school and really get to know the children and Quechua community in the surrounding area. The guides at Peru by Locals speak English, Spanish, and Quechua fluently; and the team is incredible.They are kind, knowledgeable and full of fun energy. The food is freshly prepared and the chef’s are able to accommodate a variety of dietary needs efficiently. I wouldn’t recommend traveling with any other company for your visit to Machu Picchu and surrounding sites.

  Peru by Locals gave us a lifetime experience. The guides were extremely knowledgeable, patient, answered all of our questions and were so encouraging.   Peru by Locals customized an 11 day Peru experience that was just incredible. Every detail was thought of and taken care of. We did a city tour of Cuzco, a tour through the Sacred Valley, 1 day on the Inca Trail, Machu Picchu, a hike to a waterfall, and ended our trip with a 4 day (3 night) llama trek around a Ausangate mountain to the rainbow mountain. Jose Condor organized and made sure every detail was perfect. Our guide, Auriol, was just perfect. So knowledgeable about the history, geography, botany of Peru, and made sure that we were well informed, and well taken care of. Auriol was extremely patient with us on our track and super encouraging. Peru by Locals provides the local feel by using the very best local people to give the very best experience. It was WAY above any expectation we could’ve had.
