Sail on board the only historic day sailing schooner out of Camden Maine. We carry 18 passengers at most and have cushioned seating on board for all. Experienced crew will point out wild life, tell you history of our area and show local landmarks. Come and enjoy a beautiful sail overlooking Camden Hills and sail by the famous Curtis Island Lighthouse. Get involved in learning to haul sails or sit back and enjoy the views with a bottle of wine and picnic. Offering days sails, live acoustic music sails, sunset sails and full moon sails.

5.00We had a great day and would suggest a raincoat with hood for a possible pop up shower. We felt very comfortable with our captain and his mate.

5.00Our sunset ride on the Schooner Surprise was an exceptional experience. the Captain Laird and his apprentice, Julius, were outstanding. We sat aft, next to Laird, and learned from his rich sailing expertise, wealth of maritime history, and local stories as a native Mainer. A typical Maine fog settled over us for some of the time as we sailed around neighboring islands, and we gained a respect for the difficulty of navigating without sight to guide you, even with electronic devices, but especially for sailors in prior centuries. Snapped a few treasured photos returning to Camden harbor in the dramatic sunset sky. It was a highlight of a memorable trip along the Maine coast.

5.00My friend and I chose the day sail, so that we could see all the sights. The schooner was smaller than others that we looked at and the size was perfect. Everyone had a comfortable place to sit and enjoy the views. We sat near the captain and he was very engaged in conversation with the people nearby. Also, he provided great information about the islands and the Penobscot Bay and gladly answered questions about the area. I highly recommend Day Sails and Sunset Tours!

5.00This was our second time, the first was 16 years ago with Jack and Barbara Moore. We brought our 13 year old grandson along this time and it was absolutely fabulous! The crew engaged him with hands on details and he loved it!
Great short sailing trip in Camden, Maine! Prepare for cooler temps on the boat.

5.00I highly recommend taking a 2-hour sail on Schooner Surprise if you are around the Camden, Maine area! The Surprise is the perfect size for an intimate sail, as they only accommodate up to 18 travelers for each trip. The owner, Nicole, and captain, Laird, were both very nice and talked with us a good bit during the trip. I originally had wanted to do the sunset tour, but had been watching the weather for weeks and decided that a 1:00-3:00 sail would be warmer. Our day turned out to be beautiful, at 68 degrees and sunny, but of course, with the wind on the boat, it felt much cooler/colder. I came prepared with coat/scarf/hat/gloves, so I was warm enough. My teenage daughter didn't believe me when I told her she needed to pack warm outerwear, so she ended up stealing my beanie hat and using the crew's blankets to stay warm. The scenery was really pretty, including one small lighthouse, some islands, and a couple of cute seal heads poking up from the water. Passengers can BYOB and snacks, and I'd recommend considering Bonine for anyone who may suffer from motion-sickness (like my daughter did). If we're ever back in the area, we will definitely do another sailing trip on the Surprise!

4.00Reservation guy was a bit unfriendly but the crew on the boat were great. We went out on a warm day in town but it was very cold and windy on the water. They had blankets but we were still cold. Nice sail otherwise.
