  We came up from the city on Metro North. The library right by the train station had a convenient restroom and bottle filling machine. From there we walked to the house uphill via Main St and the Croton aqueduct trail, which was a nice nature walk. The house itself and the grounds were beautiful and chock full of interesting objects, which our tour guide explained in detail. We came for the seasonal garden tour, but frankly there was not as much garden as we thought, so maybe it’s better to do the one that spends more time in the house. Definitely worth the hour if you have an interest in beautiful old houses and the history of the era. We may come up again to see it in a different season.

  I took my second tour of the Octagon House, having taken the Christmas tour at the holidays. I went on a 79 degree day and sunny and it was the perfect afternoon. The gardens were in full bloom and really beautiful. The flowers were so colorful and the trees were at full peak. The tour of the gardens and the greenhouse were a real treat. The blooming was just gorgeous. I could not believe how pretty the grounds were at this season. The house looked so nice with all the elegant decorations and some of the rooms had just finished being renovated so I got to see some new things this time around.   This is my new favorite Hudson Valley historic site! The house was extremely beautiful. The history of the house and its restoration was fascinating! Forensic architecture, I never knew of that before! The guide was so knowledgeable, he was able to answer every question I posed, and I'm a curious person. Definitely would go back!

  The tour guide was amazing the connection to history fascinating and the house's origins and journey terrific as well. The current owners have done an amazing job with the restoration and access to so many of the rooms. Brought my cousin from California for the tour and we both loved it. Will definitely return for the seasonal tours as well.

  I want to thank the owners of this magnificent property for their loving and meticulous restoration of this uniquely beautiful home and their generosity in letting us into it. I found this site on TA and signed up for the Christmas tour with my niece. I’ve done a lot of Victorian Christmas house tours over the years and this is my favorite! Every room and detail was breathtaking and yet not overwhelming. I loved looking at the “ Hudson River School” paintings on the first floor. Al was a fantastic and knowledgeable guide and the gift shop is small but has wonderful site specific gifts. • Unique, fun and facinating

  A friend and I toured the house for the Victorian Christmas tour with Rachel and it was wonderful. So much beauty and history. We were in a very manageable group of only 7 people for a 1 hour tour and we both loved it. Rachel was so enthusiastic and very knowledgeable. She entertained questions (which everyone had) and made the history of this old and unique house come alive.

  We visited once before in the Summer a few years back. It was a new experience seeing all the 19th century decor. The admission seems a bit steep, but the tours are limited to ten persons. The guide was very knowledgeable about society in that time period.

  The staff were very informative and supportive. A great tour guide, a great tour. Well worth it!! The groups small and well organized. We went for the Victorian Christmas tour but I imaginative any tour here would be good.

• Unique and fascinating house

  After taking the Christmas/Holiday tour a few years back, I wanted my sister from Vermont to see this unique and lovely landmark house. We took the 4pm tour, and the house was tastefully decorated for the Halloween season, as it would have been back in the 1800s. Our pleasant and informative tour guide went over the history and architecture, as well as some of the customs and superstitions of the eras of the house. The hour flew by quickly and was well worth the trip. I would also highly recommend purchasing the book in the gift shop about the history of the home, with great pictures.   Great tour, wonderful tour guide, lots of great information about the house. Grounds were very nice as well. Well worth the visit.
