Our hike with Alessandra this morning was great! She’s a very informative and friendly guide. The hike was moderately difficult…but well worth the effort to see San Fruttuso from that elevation and learn interesting facts about the area. Highly recommend the activity!

Yesterday morning, after leaving the car at the Santa Margherita station parking lot (€2.00/hour) and taking the bus to Portofino (€5.00), we set off from here to San Fruttuoso around 10:00, immediately starting the route with a series of steps that seemed endless. I state that I had a heart attack ten years ago and, despite the daily flat walks, I struggle a bit to make stairs and climbs. The walk, which offers indescribable shows of sea, mountains, flora and scents, for me was challenging until we began the descent, a moment of extreme pleasure as I felt like a... gazelle. Along the way I was overtaken by groups of boys and people much older than me, evidently without a cardiac history. The heat, despite being mid-April, certainly did not help. San Fruttuoso is an FAI site to see at least once in a lifetime. The free visit of the abbey (€10) is interesting and well articulated. At the end of the afternoon, the boat trip (€11) to Portofino was exciting for the spectacle of the coast and providential for me, as I could not walk back along the path. A day after that adventure, leaving aside breathlessness and frequent stops, the thought still gives me a feeling of privilege and pride to live in such a beautiful country.
