Visit the oldest museum in Gettysburg! Learn the story of the only civilian to be killed during the Battle of Gettysburg. Authentically furnished from cellar to attic, the Jennie Wade House is a shrine to Jennie and to life during the American Civil War. Beyond the battlefield's thunder, this quiet home whispers the poignant, personal tragedy of Gettysburg's only civilian casualty—a life extinguished mid-morning by a stray bullet. Just 20 years old at the time of the Battle, Jennie was kneading dough in the kitchen when a rifle bullet pierced two doors and claimed her life.
Artifacts from that fatal day in 1863 are on display as well, including the artillery shell that punctured the roof of the house and a floorboard with Jennie’s blood still on it.

You must do the tour it’s very informative and the artifacts from the actual house are fantastic and a little jarring.

Don't miss this tour! The story of Jennie Wade is quite sad and she deserves to have her story told. Anna was our tour guide and she was excellent! The information she provided was amazing. We were never rushed through the tour and were able to take photos. While we didn't experience anything paranormal, I did feel a level of heaviness and sadness. I hope Jennie Wade is never forgotten!

It was very interesting to learn the story of this young civilian killed during the Battle of Gettysburg while making bread. It was a hard reminder that war goes far beyond the battlefields. It was surreal to still see the bullet holes in the door. The tour is not long but very informative.

I would highly recommend this tour to get a more human view of the events of 160 years ago. Tour took about 45 minutes. Gift shop was less expensive than expected.

The story of Jenny wade is a tragic one but one that I’m glad I went and took a tour of. She was the only civilian tragedy of civil war and I never even knew about her before the tour. Tour guide was excellent and the way she told her story I will not forget
