Pisa

Located in the Italian region of Tuscany, Pisa is famous for its iconic tower. Already leaning when it was completed in 1372, this 56-metre-high white marble cylinder is the bell tower of the Romanesque cathedral in light and dark marble that stands beside it in Piazza dei Miracoli. This square of miracles also includes the baptistery, known for its acoustics, which amateur singers test every day, as well as the Camposanto Monumentale cemetery.

Lucca

Lucca is a Tuscan town on the River Serchio. It is known for its perfectly preserved Renaissance walls surrounding its historic town centre and cobbled streets. The wide, tree-lined streets along the 16th- and 17th-century ramparts are popular for walking and cycling. Casa di Puccini, the birthplace of the great opera composer, is now a house museum.

San Gimignano

San Gimignano is an Italian town built on a hill in Tuscany, south-west of Florence. Surrounded by 13th-century walls, the old town is organised around Piazza della Cisterna, a triangular square lined with medieval houses. Several medieval towers rise above the town, including the stone Torre Grossa. The Collegiate Church of San Gimignano is a 12th-century church whose Santa Fina chapel is decorated with frescoes by Ghirlandaio.

Siena

Siena, a city located in Tuscany, in central Italy, is characterised by its medieval brick buildings. In Piazza del Campo, the central square shaped like a shell, stand the Palazzo Pubblico, the Gothic town hall, and the Torre del Mangia, a narrow 14th-century tower offering a panoramic view from its white travertine summit. The city's 17 historic ‘contrades’ (districts) are arranged around the piazza.
