This was an exceptional tour with Mike (of Maxi Taxi). Starting with a punctual meet and greet at the Hilton. The van was comfortable and provided great respite from the outside heat. We greatly appreciated the (unexpected) private tour as we (2) were the ones on the tour. Mike imparted extensive and expert knowledge regarding the history of Barbados. He drove us through the entire island narrating the histories that comprised the current geography. He was super friendly and engaging. We learned a lot of important information about Barbados, the culture, the people and the history. We had an exceptional rum punch made by his wife. Truly an amazing experience from start to finish and every step of the way.

The tour guide is very knowledgeable and professional and respectful of time. Mr. Mike drives well, and is able to answer all questions on various topics, not just questions on Barbados. The rum punch is phenomenal! The lunch was delicious with local Bajan cuisine.

Mikee is incredibly knowledgeable, personable, and passionate about the island's history and culture. We had such an amazing time on this tour, and it was clear from the start that he truly loves sharing the stories and heritage of the island. His insights brought so much depth and understanding to our experience, giving us a greater appreciation for the culture, people, and history. This was easily one of the highlights of our trip, and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a more meaningful connection to the island.

We had a great experience with Mike! He is so knowledgeable and gave us more information about the island than we expected. The ride was comfortable, lunch was great (note it is guest pay) and Sue’s rum punch was amazing! I would highly recommend this tour.

We booked our tour based on a personal recommendation and we were told to expect a special day during which we would learn all about the amazing island of Barbados from Mike who has lived here all of his life. The day started really well as Mike arrived early to pick us up in his spotlessly clean shiny people carrier, he was clearly excited to see us and handed out nice cold bottles of water to keep us well hydrated throughout the long day ahead, our tour lasted just under seven hours but that did include a stop for lunch at the stunning Bathsheba Bay. As we set off Mike gave us an outline of our itinerary for the day and encouraged us to ask as many questions as we could to ensure that no stone was left unturned on our journey around this tropical paradise. Mike is very clearly a man in love with his homeland and he is very knowledgeable about it to, basically he knows a great deal about the history of Barbados and explains how the island has evolved since its discovery through time including gaining independence right through to the present day. He gave us a fascinating insight into the people, culture and social history of the island, often relating it to his own experiences here growing up and living here all of his life, even down to taking his “O” levels just the same as we had back in the UK. The tour however is not just a history lesson, we were also treated to some incredible sights as were driven all over the island with numerous stops for photo opportunities, comfort breaks and a great lunch stop at Bathsheba. It was a fantastic day out we saw parts of the island that we would never have found without his guidance and at each stop we were regaled with stories about the history that has shaped Barbados, helping it become the true paradise that it is today, Mike’s passion for his homeland is infectious and we were all privileged to share our time with him and ended the day tired but happy after a fantastic day out with this charming friendly man.

This was an up-close and personal tour of the island of Barbados. Mike is a thoughtful, patient and generous guide. He adapted our tour throughout the day, accommodating us whenever we wanted to spend a little extra time at any location. We never felt rushed. His introduction to each location was informative, insightful and filled with personal anecdotes that brought the scene to life. In the lead-up to our tour, his wife, Sue, was a pleasure to deal with. She helped customise our itinerary and checked in on us regularly in the lead up to our tour date. If you want to learn about island life and the history of Barbados, you won't go wrong with Mike's Real Barbados Island Tour. If you have a little extra time on the island, I recommend squeezing a visit to St. Nicholas Abbey. The old homestead gives you a good sense of colonial life during the island's colonial plantation era. It stood in stark contrast to the numerous demountable homes we drove past. The emancipated slaves lived in these modest homes during the same period.

If this is your first time here, and want to do a tour,we recommend this one. You see parts of east and west coasts and the very northern section. Beautiful views and the difference between the coasts is amazing.
