Early wake up and drive to volcanoes take 3 hours approx explore a land of thousand hills by driving into majestic hills of northern province head to the park which is characterized by open grasslands, bamboo forests and swamps. The Volcanoes National Park once stretched all the way to parts of the Virunga National Park in DR Congo. The park sits in one of Africa’s most mountainous zones including five volcanoes – Karisimbi, Sabinyo, Bisoke, Muhavura and Gahinga. Mount Karisimbi is the highest of them all at 4,507 meters. The Volcanoes National Park is bordered by the Virunga National Park in DR Congo, Mgahinga National Park in Uganda and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest when it was gazetted as one large protected area known as Volcanoes Ecosystem. There are about 360 mountain gorillas remaining in the whole world today, which gives you an opportunity for you to see half of these remaining gorillas in one place.
Volcanoes National Park
At 4:30 am our safari driver guide will pick you up and drive off to the park. It’s a 2 and half hour long drive to get to the Volcanoes National Park in Ruhengeri, which is a habitat to the endangered Mountain gorillas. At exactly 7.30 am, we move to the park’s headquarters in Kinigi Village where you are briefed by the ranger about the rules and regulations for Gorilla tracking before you head off to the jungle. The trek normally lasts between 2 and 5 hours depending on the location of the gorilla family and a maximum of eight visitors is allowed per gorilla family. Once you reach the gorillas you are permitted to stay for one hour to view them. The minimum age for gorilla trekking in Rwanda is 15 years.

5.00I booked my trip from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park with Universal Travel at the very last minute, and the entire experience was incredibly smooth and well-organized. I already purchased my permit but neglected transportation until the day before. Really appreciate them for accommodating us! Seeing the gorillas was absolutely unforgettable. Christian, our driver and guide, picked us up directly from our hotel in Kigali and made sure we were comfortable, informed, and perfectly on time for every key moment of the trek. The drive itself can be intense, so we were especially grateful for his skill, calmness, and guidance throughout the journey. Overall, a fantastic experience. 5.00I booked a one-day tour from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park for gorilla trekking, and it was absolutely exceptional from start to finish. The company handled everything with professionalism — including arranging all the official trekking logistics directly with the national park — which made the whole experience completely stress-free. My guide, Christian, was outstanding. He picked me up exactly on time in a new, clean, and very comfortable car, which immediately set the tone for a great day. Throughout the entire journey, he made sure I was comfortable, informed, and fully prepared for the trek ahead. Christian stayed with me through every step of the process, from check-in to the briefing area to the trailhead, always making sure I was ok. It felt like exploring with someone truly invested in making sure I had the best possible day. The gorilla trekking itself was unforgettable, but the quality of service is what made the day seamless and memorable. 5.00We had the good fortune to have Fidel as our guide for this once in a lifetime opportunity. Fidel and his team of porters and trackers were fantastic. We were assigned to a large family of gorillas (24) took about 2hrs to trek to them. It was such a memorable and wonderful experience. The guides/porters really knew how to respect and communicate with the gorillas. I cannot recommend this highly enough. The park and the activities are well managed and organised (in addition to gorillas).

5.00Absolutely fantastic experience - a once in a lifetime. Our guide was very knowledgeable and our trip to and from was very enjoyable. The organisation at the national park was excellent and our experience with the guide, porters and trackers was first rate. And the gorillas - simply majestic and so engaging. Humbled to be in their presence.

5.00What an experience!! Big shout out to John, our driver - he was fantastic!! Gave us lots of insights on the drive from Kigali, stopped for photos, and ensured we had everything we needed. The tour itself was brilliant - what an adventure!! Volcano National Park is beautiful, and the hiking made easier with porters if you wanted them. Trackers found the family of gorillas, and we got to spend a great amount of time with them. Six babies made it super fun. I couldn't believe how close we were. We even learned how to let the gorillas know we were friendly. A must do when in Rwanda.
Once in a lifetime experience to see the endangered Mountain Gorillas and learn from them!

5.00Amazing trek to visit a mountain gorilla family including the silverback, blackbacks, mother, nursing two-month old, and teenagers through the misty enshrouded forest and volcanoes. An experience of a lifetime! We even got a bonus and encountered a group of golden monkeys. Guide, trackers and porters all exemplary professional and friendly. My driver Shadady was a fantastic host and companion keeping me safe on the 5 hours return driver to Volcano National Park and all the excursions to the treks. A+

5.00My experience was amazing from the start (booking) to the end of the tour! They contacted me and advised me what was needed for the tour via WhatsApp. Additionally, they were patient in answering all of my questions. The driver Shadady was skilled and knowledgeable. He was the best!! The porters helped me make it to the top to see the gorillas after having breathing issues due to the high altitude. We trekked up the mountain for 2 hours because the gorillas kept moving. We were able to see the silverback!! The guide Francis was knowledgeable and ensured we were all okay. I would highly recommend this company for your needs. My husband and I had an amazing experience!!

5.00The gorilla trek exceeding my expectations. Our driver and guide, Christian, did a great job of navigating busy traffic to get us safely to and from Volcanoes National Park. He managed the gorilla permits and park fees so we did not have to think about it. The trek was the adventure of a lifetime! The expert guide and gorilla trackers found our gorilla family right away and primed us on how to behave. Porters were friendly and available to carry bags and provide assistance as needed. Trekking in the park involved some slipping & sliding on roots, so I think you have to be ok with falling down. After the trek, Christian met us with a thoughtful refreshment and took us to a delicious restaurant. Highly recommended.
