We took a flight from Cairo to Abu Simbel and back in one day. The airport at Abu Simbel is tiny. It is so convenient and saves a long drive. The flight itself was short and easy and we got a great view of Lake Nasser from the air. It makes the long journey to Abu Simbel much more manageable especially if you are short on time. It was a bit more expensive but worth it for the convenience. Everything was well organised and we had plenty of time at the temple. A stress free way to see one of Egypt's greatest sites.

I visited a mosque for the first time in Cairo. We went to the Mosque of Muhammad Ali inside the Citadel. It is a huge and beautiful mosque with lots of alabaster and high ceilings. We had to take our shoes off and the women in our group covered their heads. It was a very peaceful and respectful experience. The courtyard is huge and the views over Cairo are amazing. It was interesting to learn about the different parts of the mosque and how it is used for prayer. A beautiful building and a nice insight into a different religion and culture.

We went to the site of the ancient library in Alexandria. There is not much left of the original but the modern Bibliotheca is a stunning building. It is huge and the architecture is really interesting. We went inside and saw the main reading room which is massive and full of light. They have exhibits and museums inside too. It is a symbol of knowledge and learning and it feels like a very special place. We spent a couple of hours just walking around the building and the outside area by the sea. A must see in Alexandria even if just for the modern architecture.

did a lot of planning for this trip reading books and watching documentaries. But being there in person is so different. Nothing prepares you for the scale of the pyramids or the detail of the carvings. The heat the smells the sounds all of it makes history feel real. Our guide filled in all the gaps in my knowledge and made the stories come alive. I learned so much more than I ever could from a book. It was the trip of a lifetime and I am already planning when I can come back. Egypt gets in your blood.

We finished the tour in Cairo and had one last dinner together as a group. We talked about all the amazing things we had seen and the funny moments we had shared. We laughed about the persistent shopkeepers and the crazy Cairo traffic and the time we got lost in the market. We looked through our photos and promised to stay in touch. It was sad to say goodbye but we all felt so grateful for the experience. The tour brought us together and we shared something special. A perfect ending to an unforgettable 10 days in Egypt.

went to Khan El Khalili market alone one afternoon and it was an adventure from the moment I stepped in. The noise the smells the colours everything hits you at once. I was just wandering through the narrow alleyways looking at all the shops selling lamps spices perfumes and souvenirs. I got lost a few times but that was part of the fun. I sat down at a small café in the middle of the market and had some mint tea which was delicious and just watched the world go by. People were haggling and laughing and it felt so alive. I bought a few small things and practised my bargaining skills which was a fun challenge. The shopkeepers are friendly but persistent so you have to be ready for that. It is a totally different world from the quiet temples and I loved the change of pace. A really cool experience.
