Then we will drive you to your hotel. You'll likely want to get out and explore your surroundings after checking into your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, head to the medina (old quarter) to explore the labyrinth of commercial and residential alleyways, noting the 15th-century Portuguese fortress. Find a café in the hip Zoco Chico square for something to eat and do a little people watching and cap off the day with a late afternoon paseo to enjoy the sunset as you stroll along the seafront promenade of the bustling corniche. NOTE: If you're interested in more or less days It’s possible to modify this Tour and customize to fit your time schedule

Breakfast
Tangier
Begin the day early to see more of Tangier and opt to hire a guide to take you through the kasbah (old fortification). You'll enter through the Bab Haha gate at the northeast end of Place du Mechouar and into the medina's Dar Baroud neighborhood.
Caves of Hercules
Meanwhile, just 20 minutes outside of the city, along the most northwestern point of mainland Africa, are the unique Caves of Hercules—so named for its mythical connection to Hercules himself. Close to the mid-19th-century Cape Spartel lighthouse, you can enter the cave complex through the opening that faces the sea and resembles the shape of Africa.
Chefchaouen
When you're ready, travel straight on to the blue-hued city of Chefchaouen in the Rif Mountains. Enjoy the scenic route, stopping along the way to hike (2-3 hours) to the Cascades d'Akchour (Akchour Waterfalls) if time allows. Chefchaouen offers endless winding, narrow streets and picturesque buildings. Find Plaza Outa el Hammam for a restaurant or café and enjoy a meal as you people-watch. Though non-Muslims are not permitted to enter, the Grand Mosque is still worth a visit. From there, explore the nearby kasbah and tour the garden, museum, and some of the old prison cells. Follow a path outside of the city walls to Hotel Atlas and climb to the rooftop to enjoy a panoramic view of the Blue City. For the slightly more athletic, follow the street east to pass over the Ras el Ma Spring and ascend the path (20-30 minutes) until you reach the abandoned white Spanish Mosque. Enjoy one last view over Chefchaouen as the sun sets behind the mountains.
Overnight at Riad Ahlam, Fes or similar
BREAKFAST
Breakfast
Volubilis
Rise early to wander the streets in quiet, using this time to snap your unobstructed photos. Leaving Chefchaouen, you'll drive toward Fes and can opt to visit UNESCO-protected Volubilis, Morocco's best-preserved Roman ruins. Wander the massive complex, exploring large merchant homes with still-intact heating systems, temples, and many colorful mosaics in situ.
Meknes
Continue to the smaller, less busy version of Fes, Meknes, for an optional detour and introduction to your first historic imperial city. The two main points of interest are the Ville Impériale (Imperial City) and the medina. In Ville Impériale, you can visit the Bab al-Mansour gate, the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, and the Royal Stables. Meanwhile, just outside of the imperial city, you may want to explore the medina—a smaller and easier-to-navigate version compared to Fes and Marrakesh. Other than the scattered souks, you may like to visit the 14th-century Bou Inania Madrasa and the Dar Jamaï Museum, a beautiful 19th-century palace-turned-museum.
Fez
Continue east to your second imperial city, Fes. Before venturing into the medina, drive up the hill to take the time to visit the Merenid Tombs located just north of the city and enjoy the all-encompassing view of historic Fes and the surrounding area. Descend the hill and find your way to your riad (a traditional Moroccan house with an interior garden), where you can enjoy a delicious meal and relax for the evening.
Overnight at Riad Ahlam, Fes or similar
BREAKFAST
Breakfast
Fez
Today you'll explore Fes, the oldest of Morocco's imperial cities. we will arrange an expert guide for a half-day tour to learn more about this city and help you navigate the medina. Start in Fes el Bali ("Old Fes"). Founded in the eighth century, the roads are much narrower, windier, and steeper than those of other imperial cities, making it almost impossible not to get lost at least a few times. Shop the iconic souks (markets) for a variety of wares (spices, leather, ceramics, pewter, etc).
Chouara Tannery
Then visit Chouara Tannery, which still implements traditional techniques from centuries ago. Find a local leather shop for a rooftop view to watch the masters at work. Find your way to one of the oldest still-operating universities in the world, Al-Qarawiyyin University (859 CE), next to the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque. Though the mosque is only open to Muslims, there are a few places where you can glimpse inside its decorated interior. From there, make your way to the 14th-century Al Attarine Madrasa or the Bou Inania Madrasa, beautiful examples of Moroccan architecture and artisanship showcasing intricate zellij tilework.
Bab Boujloud
From here, enter through the famous Bab Boujeloud. The outside is blue (the traditional color for Fes), and the inside is green (the color for Islam). Heading through the gate to the main thoroughfare of Talâa Kebira, which is packed with shops. Treat yourself to some retail therapy or pop in the Musée Batha, home to many Moroccan arts—including carved wood and traditional pottery (its highlight)—and a beautiful central garden. Then visit 13th-century Fes el Jedid ("New Fes") to discover the Batha Museum, housed in a 19th-century palace. Spend time in the Andalusian-style gardens before walking to the Mellah (old Jewish quarter and cemetery).
Overnight at Luxury Oasis Camp or similar

Azrou
Get an early start today, as you'll be covering a lot of ground. From Fes, you'll travel south toward Merzouga to arrive at the Sahara dunes for a sunset camel ride. Along the way, you'll drive through the town of Azrou and climb an elevation of 7,146 feet (2,178 m) over the Col du Zad pass and through the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas mountains. Here you can enjoy sightings of the local Barbary monkeys before stopping for lunch in Midelt (the "apple city").
Continue over the Tizi n'Talremt pass and into the Ziz Valley, known for its hidden oases and palm tree clusters. Along the road, you'll see many fortified houses known as ksars—built by merchants to protect precious wares, including gold, salt, and spices. Continue to Erfoud, a bustling market town known for its date festival and famous for its fossil mining and artisan factories. En route, you can see hillside mines where large rocks are taken from the earth. While in town, stop at a local artisan collective where you can learn about the types of fossils found in the area and see the full process of how the fossil-rich rock is transformed into beautiful objects. Soon, you'll see the sand waves of Erg Chebbi, an extensive sea of dunes covering an area of 13.5 square miles (35 sq km). Never stationary, the massive dunes shift and travel depending on the changing wind.
Erg Chebbi
Near Merzouga, you can take a short break and switch gears to ride a camel through the dunes to your already-prepared-for-you camp, arriving just before sunset. Climb a nearby sand dune to watch the sunset before returning to camp for a delicious dinner, relaxing by the campfire. Enjoy an evening of Berber music followed by a night in a bedouin-style tent under an expansive night sky chock-full of unhindered twinkling stars. If four walls and modern comfort are more your style, you can opt to spend the night at a comfortable hotel/auberge in Merzouga.

Wake up early to catch a spectacular desert sunrise, then spend the morning exploring more of the Sahara. You can rent a sandboard and test your skills on the dunes, take the Erg Chebbi tour (around the dunes), join a quad ATV tour, or relax for a bit by a pool.
Khemliya

Boumalne Dades
We then continue our journey to Dades Valley passing through villages such as Millab, Tinjdad, and Toroug to arrive later at Todra Valley which is a green one surrounded by mud villages and mountains. Driving around 30 min we get to Todra gorges: a narrow vertical passage with vertical cliffs 300m high rising dramatically on each side, they are a popular destination for climbing lovers. Lunch in the town, continue to Dades valley where you will see the fascinating rock formation known locally as "monkies fingers" as well as beautiful mud Kasbahs. Overnight in a hotel overlooking the valley.
Overnight at Riad Nesma Suites & SPA, or similar
BREAKFAST
Breakfast
Ouarzazate
Today you'll enter the growing town of Ouarzazate, which is a common stopping point along the desert routes, as it offers a bit more accessibility than some of the nearby smaller towns, such as Aït Benhaddou. The town was made popular by the growing movie industry, and you have an option to tour one of two movie studios, including an up-close look at some props and sets. Some popular film credits include "Black Hawk Down," "Prometheus," "American Sniper," and "Game of Thrones." To learn more about the history and filmmaking process in the area, stop at the Musée du Cinema.
Ait Ben Haddou
Next, you'll reach medieval Aït Benhaddou, Morocco's most famous kasbah and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The old ksour dates from the 11th century when it held an important position along the trans-Saharan trade route between Marrakesh, Ouarzazate, and the southern desert. We'll have free time to visit it and have lunch in the village. After, we head to Marrakesh via high atlas mountains (2260 ), admiring the impressive mountainous views and special Berber villages on the mountain's sides. Arrive in Marrakesh in the evening.
Marrakech
After a long day on the road, settle into your hotel and spend the rest of the afternoon as you like. In the early evening, Jemaa el-Fna square comes alive with musicians, performers, snake charmers, games, and food stalls, a catch-all of entertainment. If you want to enjoy the spectacle from a distance, choose one of the many cafés surrounding the square and enjoy a cup of mint tea and a savory meal.
Overnight at Riad Nesma Suites & SPA, or similar
BREAKFAST
Breakfast
After breakfast, meet your local guide who will lead you through the old city of Marrakech. As you explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site, you will come across lively souks and maze-like alleys. You're sure to be dazzled by displays of djellabas, brightly colored babouches, intricately pierced lanterns, conical mounds of exotic spices, and the intense hubbub of medina life. Along the way, your knowledgeable and energetic guide will regale you with the history and stories of the Medina, the Souk, and the Mellah neighborhoods of the Red City.
Jardin Majorelle
In the afternoon you'll continue your private tour, exploring places like the Bahia and El Badii Palaces, and the Saadian Tombs. You'll also see the Majorelle Gardens, an iconic garden retreat built over forty years by French painter Jacques Majorelle and later inhabited by famed designer Yves Saint Laurent.

We had a great time in Morocco with Khalil from deserttrips and Said as our driver. The tour was well organized and well paced. Khalil was a pleasure to work with during planning: informative, responsive, no pressure. Said is a safe and reliable driver, always polite and considerate. Vehicle is comfortable. A second night at Merzouga is awesome, we hiked into the Erg Chebbi dunes for sunset and sunrise. We added a day at Casablanca at the end and ricks cafe for dinner. All riads and hotels are clean, great locations, good food, and atmospheric. We’ve travelled extensively, we usually do our own planning, (eg. this tour is part of a two-month trip where we planned the rest) using deserttrips for Morocco is the right decision to manage trip logistics. We used private tours previously for Egypt, Turkey, and Africa safari, deserttrips quality of service is top notch. Morocco is an amazing country with a booming approachable-luxury travel industry. Government and locals welcome and prioritize travelers. With some increased precautions, we felt safe and welcomed while exploring its diverse offerings.

These words cannot begin to convey how much we enjoyed our recent trip to Morocco organised by DesertTrips. Med quickly replied to our queries during planning, whatever the day or time. The itinerary gave us a great insight and made our trip one of the books; cities, Rif mountains, high/middle Atlas mountains and coast, history, everyday life and yes, lots of fun. Each day from the time we arrived at the airport up to our last day was filled with fabulous experiences, energy, lovely people, yummy food and wonderful memories. Our driver-guide Yidir was a professional, warm, kind, engaging, informative and funny guy, and just as patient with us on the road; we never felt rushed with him. We enjoyed his company and felt safe in his capable hands. Thank you SO MUCH Yidir!! As the itinerary came to life, we experienced more than we could have hoped for. Yidir expertly brought everything together, calmly and professionally taking us along our route, answering our many and varied questions, introducing us to life along the way and coordinating with each of our local guides. The guides were all great with excellent knowledge and a passion for sharing that with us. The hotels were all excellent, though we particularly liked the Palais Zahia Hotel in Tangier and Art Place Hotel in Marrakech. Eden Boutique in Dades was special and our regret was that we only had one night here. The hotel with local decor and, luxurious interior. We immediately relaxed when we walked in; the staff and our room were lovely. The location is just a few km from the Tisdrin road. We also loved the dinner, which is important after a long day on the road. The Sahara Desert was our favorite stop. We stayed two nights and did an ATV dune tour and a 1-day 4x4 tour… two different experiences you should have. We also opted for a sunset camel ride for our first night, and it was surreal to cross the red sands of the Erg Chebbi with the landscape on the horizon. We appreciated how beautiful and peaceful our planet can be. Tangier, Chefchaouen, Fes, and Marrakech were very special and we were sorry to leave, but then that experience was topped by the Sahara Desert, so beautiful and peaceful. I can’t say enough about the great job you did for our Moroccan trip. Thank you DesertTrips for helping us make this trip happen and for so many wonderful memories to add to our love of Morocco. We were already thinking of where next in Morocco, wherever it is it will be with DesertTrips!!

We usually research, organise, and book everything ourselves for all our trips; however, for our first trip to Morocco, we felt that some local "on the ground" input and experience would be helpful. We have been working with Desert Trips to plan a 12-day family trip. They were extremely patient and helpful with all of our demands and with changing the date range. It took us many days to finalise the journey (with the delays and changes of mind all on our side), and the result exceeded our expectations. The entire trip was meticulously planned. He came up with a superb itinerary. Lots of really lovely places to visit and stay. Lots of advice on where to eat and shop. Better still, he arranged the best local guides to show us around. The hotels booked for us were all excellent, with breakfast included. We had an amazing experience with Hssaine as our tour guide and private driver. He was extremely knowledgeable, professional, and attentive throughout the entire trip. Hssaine took wonderful care of our family, making sure we were always comfortable and well-informed. It was a worryfree trip - everything was taken care of and allowed us to fully relax and enjoy the beauty and wonder of Morocco. We won't hesitate to book another trip with them in the near future!

My husband and I had been planning a trip to Morocco for quite some time and after searching through many tour options we came across DesertTrips their 10-day private road trip caught our attention and from the first moment of contact everything felt professional and wellorganized we booked it and it turned out to be the best decision we made. We took the ferry from Spain to Tangier where our Moroccan adventure began at the port we were greeted warmly by Yidir our private driverguide who would accompany us throughout the journey from the very beginning he was not only professional and courteous but also incredibly knowledgeable and easy to connect with by the end of the trip we felt like we were traveling with a good friend. Our firs stop was the beautiful Blue City of Chefchaouen the atmosphere was peaceful and the scenery felt like a painting we then traveled to Fes one of the country's cultural capitals there we were guided by Mahedi a wonderful local guide whose knowledge of the medina its history and hidden spots truly brought the city to life Fes was rich intense and deeply authentic. From there we made our way toward the Sahara Desert a long but fascinating drive through ever changing landscapes reaching the golden dunes of Merzouga was like arriving in another world. We rode camels at sunset stayed in a luxury camp and watched the stars in complete silence it was an experience that touched us deeply. The journey continued through the Dades and Todgha Gorges with scenic mountain passes ancient kasbahs and palm filled valleys when we reached Marrakech we were welcomed by Mustapha our local guide in the city his passion and storytelling were outstanding he made the medina souks and historical sites truly come alive. After 10 full days exploring Morocco from north to south cities. mountains. deserts. and everything in between we returned to Tangier with full hearts and unforgettable memories. we then took the ferry back to Spain already dreaming of our return. This wasn’t just a tour it was a real journey. the attention to detail the incredible guides the comfort of private transport and the genuine warmth of everyone involved made it a 5-star experience. if you’re looking to see the real Morocco DesertTrips is the way to go Highly recommended!!!

We just finished a two-week trip to Tangier, Chefchaouen, Fes, Merzouga (Desert), Dades Valley, Ouarzazate and Marrakech with Deserttirps and had a great time. We were initially not sure about this company because they were based in Morocco and did not have a U.S. office. But Med did a good job arranging the trip according to our wishes and kept in contact with us the whole time. Everything went as planned. All our hotels and riads were nice. We were greeted in each city by a friendly and very knowledgeable local tour guide who took us around. We especially enjoyed Mustapha in Marrakech. He was excellent and he also gave us great suggestions for food and went far beyond to make sure our vegetarian food requirements were met. Said was our driver/guide and was the best! He brought knowledge and enthusiasm. He was friendly, warm and open making our experience so wonderful. He gave us awesome suggestions for us to do at the end of the day such as go see a dance performance or visit the night market as well as early morning activities like watch the sunrise from a hot air balloon... All in all, they taught us about the country, the history, the kings, the architecture, and the food. We learned so much about the beautiful Moroccan people and culture! We will not hesitate to use Deserttrips again and recommend it to our community of friends!!

We just got back from the most amazing 11-day private tour of Morocco with Desert Trips. It was our first time visiting Morocco, and we couldn’t have asked for a better tour of the country’s multiple gems. A friend who had done a group tour with Desert Trips recommended them to us, and from the start, the service was incredible. Med helped us plan a trip that fit exactly what we wanted — the right balance of sightseeing, downtime, and budget. He made sure we saw all the places on our list: Tangier, Chefchaouen, Fes, the desert, and Marrakech. Khalil made the organisation super smooth by setting up a WhatsApp group for us, our driver Said, and the team. It made asking questions and checking in so easy while we were on the move. Speaking of Said — he was awesome. He kept us updated on everything, shared lots of cool facts about each place we visited, and even made the long drives fun with little games and trivia. Another thing we really appreciated was having local guides in each city. It made such a difference having someone who knew the area show us around — they helped us feel really safe and gave us a deeper understanding of the culture and history. A special shout out to Zakaria in Chefchaouen, who not only gave a great tour of the blue city but also took some amazing photos of us that we’ll definitely be framing at home! One of the best parts of the whole trip was the camel ride in the desert, ending with a stay at a luxury oasis camp. Our private tent (with its own bathroom and AC) was gorgeous, the three-course dinner was delicious, and the campfire party under the stars was just magical. All the riads and hotels Desert Trips booked were fantastic too. The riad we stayed at in Fes, right in the old town, was especially beautiful — and the host, Zarah, made us feel so welcome. The whole trip felt super personal, really well organised, and just great value for money. We would 100% recommend Desert Trips to anyone thinking about visiting Morocco. It was the perfect first experience, and we’re already dreaming about coming back for more!

After conducting research on travelling in Morocco, I came to realise that navigating the country independently can be quite challenging due to complex transportation logistics and potential language barriers. To ensure a smoother and more enjoyable experience, I opted for a private tour - and it turned out to be an excellent decision. The tour was thoughtfully planned. It was also flexible, allowing us to adjust the itinerary according to our preferences and schedule. Khalil, our primary contact at the tour company, was outstanding throughout. He was incredibly responsive, attentive to all our needs, and handled every request with efficiency and professionalism. His excellent communication skills ensured that any issues that arose were promptly and smoothly resolved. Our driver, Yidir, was always punctual, courteous, and friendly, he ensured a smooth and made the long drives between cities feel manageable. In each major city we visited, we were accompanied by local guides who provided fascinating insights into Morocco’s rich history, vibrant culture, and unique gastronomy. Their expertise added great depth to the experience and made our visits truly memorable. While some of the intercity drives were long, the journey was broken up with stops at scenic spots, local shops (with no pressure to buy), and lunch breaks. It was flexible to choose where to eat, and it was helpful to do a bit of research in advance using Google reviews. Booking a private tour in Morocco was the perfect choice for an stress-free, personalised, and enriching travel experience. The tour was exceptionally well-organised, with professional support from start to finish. I highly recommend this option to anyone seeking to explore Morocco with ease and comfort.

We can only say spectacular! 100x100 recommended. Morocco has been a magical destination that has been even more enjoyable when doing it with Desert Trips. At all times we had a driver in Spanish who accompanied us to all the excursions and explained in detail what we were seeing and its history. The hotels, local guides, selected restaurants are a success. Being a private trip allows you a much more personalized trip planning and there Med is an expert, informed us of all the things to consider and what suited more to what we were looking for, adjusting everything to our taste. We were clear that it was the best option and we were not mistaken! There has been no problem but I am sure that if there had been they would have solved it immediately since the attention has been 10. It has been a totally personalized attention that we will certainly repeat again. Thank you very much to Med for being so vigilant and for organizing such a beautiful trip. A hug!

We had been looking at Morocco for years. This trip took us to all the sights/experiences we’d been thinking of and then surprised us with so much more than we were expecting. I won’t go into details as it was wonderful to learn as we travelled. The driver and included city guides were great. Very thoughtful and informative. We paid for and would recommend a local guide for Volubilus. The included Rhiads were in central locations in the middle of the old parts of the cities and the Rhiad staff so welcoming. We even managed to get some washing done while we were out exploring Fes. And it all went so smoothly. From booking with Desert Trips though to our extending the tour at the last minute to the absolutely reliable driving each day. They even phoned ahead and let the Rhiads know about our dietary restrictions. Only tip we can give is about the ferry from/to Spain. We started and finished at Tangiers. The FRS ferry was 3 hrs late each time, causing us to miss our train when we got back to Algeciras. Nothing to do with Desert Trips but something to be aware of if you are using the ferries.
