First time back to Zim in 29 years and this 14 day self drive exploration of Mana pools, Lake Kariba, Chizarira, Sukemi Forest and Vic Falls did not disappoint. What an amazing experience, first the roads shake you up and you realise very quickly that driving in Zim is going to be one to remember, from potholes to toll roads to tracks to everything else in between. We had a rocky start but with the help of Ant and his Team we were back on track in no time. Probably the best way to explore this beautiful country. The people we met were so friendly and helpful. Extremely resourceful and always willing to provide help and assistance. Highlights - elephant walking up behind you and brushing your arm in Mana pools! Eland strolling into your camp foraging Hippos calling at night Hyenas checking your camp at night looking for food! Sailing with elephants and exploring a Tonga fishing village on Lake Kariba Swimming in Lake Kariba- (>200m from shore!!!!!) Sun downer with Jameson whiskey on the banks of the Zambezi Karina Ferry - a throwback to bygone days and Sunday dinners! Sazda, corn on the cob and cooking over the braai Challenges - taking the southern road into Chizarira national park - circa 160km of rough, very rough track and giving you the need for an emergency chiropractor appointment 🤪 Elephants trashing the signage directions for Tuskers camp near Hwange NP - a true test of your navigation skills and off road driving in sandy soils Potholes, did I mention potholes! My top tips - Mazoe juice for adding to your drinking and treated water. - Keep hydrated -Bring some extra food provisions just in case and great for sharing out at the end of your journey Travel time expectations- just go with the flow! An Unforgettable experience and have no hesitation in recommending Ant and his team, you will not be disappointed.

13 Day Harare to Vic Falls Pop-Roof Landcruiser and Bush Trailer with Assistant. 10-22 August 2025. Family trip of six adults. What a trip!! Ant B and his excellent team put together an itinerary from which we have come away with many fantastic memories and stories. Ant’s organisation of the itinerary, arrangements and hospitality from our arrival in Harare to ending our trip at Vic Falls were first class. We were blessed to have as our assistant the magnificent Bevan, our assistant, driver, guide, chef and fixer who has become more than a friend. Such a chill and talented man. Plenty of game, with elles, hippos, hyenas and baboons passing through the camp at Mana Pools, lions prowling close by and many other game sightings on the journey. Some heart rate elevating moments at Mana when anxiously stepping out of the tent for a comfort break at 3 am with lions roaring in close proximity and disturbing a hippo dozing 5 metres from the pit toilet. Not sure who got the bigger fright!! Highlights? All of it really. From animals passing through our campsite at Mana Pools, Chitake Springs -lion country- where lions lie in ambush preying on elles, buffalo and impala venturing to the springs for water, sleeping under the stars on a catamaran, feeling like celebrities when the catamaran rendezvoused with the Kariba Ferry mid-water, the overnight ferry trip on Lake Kariba, Hwange National Park and the magnificent Victoria Falls. Special thanks to Ant and his team for an adventure of a lifetime and particularly to Bevan who put up with us for the 13 days. Martin family, Canberra, Australia

So you want to be one of the million people sitting cramped on a river bank trying to get the “perfect shot “ at the Masai Mara…or sit in a quiet surround, watching a lion kill or sit having sundowner’s with no one else but the elephants and hippos as your companions. I know my answer. Taking a family trip of 5 adults to go “wild camping “ did initially set my mind thinking why, but after day 1, I was totally in. Arriving in Harare to be met by Ant and the team who immediately made us feel welcome. Staying overnight at Sunbird House, lovely and friendly, and eating as friends at 3 Monkeys, what a beginning. Then the start.. Bevan, what a guy. Became more than a driver and guide. A man who kept us laughing, taught us how to look for spoor, gave us an insight into Zim and especially the vision to see wildlife, big or small (even bird eggs at 100m). And yes, Michelin star chef and barista. We were lucky to see so many animals; the mighty elephants, humpy hippo, hyenas, jackals as well as beautiful fish eagles, vultures, kingfisher.. list goes on. All walking with you and near you. Where else can you have elephants next to your tent, 2m away and still feel safe. Mongoose and crocodile and then lions.. many lions. Sitting under Fig tree, nice and quiet watching 3 lion kills, seeing the elephants coming right past you to go down to the river.Lying in the tents at night listening to the sounds of the wild. Feeling part of Africa. And for those deciding to do this trip, please take the phone to the sky at night and take a photo of the solar system, you will understand how small you are. The catamaran trip with Greg.. another wow moment. On Kariba, sleeping under the stars, dining on little islands with the hippo and croc nearby was another wow moment. A very special experience for me and one that I will always cherish. Thanks G. The final day a Victoria Falls could not have ended the holiday any better. Photos will never do it justice. But for me what gives this trip the edge over all other “safari trips” we have done was the professionalism of the Manapools team. Not many trips deserve a 5 star, but this will not disappoint.
