Thingvellir National Park
he journey begins in Reykjavik with a pick-up around 8:50 AM from your selected location. The first destination is Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for the visible tectonic rift where the North American and Eurasian plates meet, offering opportunities for walking exploration. This location also holds significant historical importance as the founding site of the Icelandic Parliament, the Althingi, in 930 AD.
Geysir
Following the visit to Thingvellir, the tour continues to the Geysir Hot Spring Area, where you'll witness the dynamic geothermal activity, most notably the Strokkur geyser, which regularly erupts, sending boiling water up to 130 feet (40 meters) into the air every few minutes.
Gullfoss Falls
The Golden Circle tour concludes with a visit to Gullfoss, the "Golden Waterfall," a site that truly lives up to its name. The 104-foot (32-meter) waterfall, already a captivating sight, is further enhanced by the dramatic canyon that surrounds it, creating a breathtaking natural spectacle.
Kerid Crater
s an added highlight to the tour, a visit to Kerid Crater is included, a remarkable natural formation resulting from a collapsed volcano. The crater features a striking blue lake nestled within its depths, contrasted by the vibrant red walls that encircle it, creating an almost eye-like appearance. Visitors have the option to admire this stunning vista from the crater's rim, or to descend and experience the view from the water's edge.
Selfoss
The day concludes with an overnight stay in Selfoss, the largest town in the South Coast region, notable for its connection of two scenic areas by a single suspension bridge.
BREAKFAST
Breakfast
Skogafoss
Following breakfast at the hotel, the South Coast expedition commences with a visit to the impressive Skógafoss Waterfall. For those preferring an elevated perspective, a nearby cliff offers an alternative viewpoint to the ground-level experience of the 196-foot (60-meter) cascade. The waterfall's mist, interacting with sunlight, often produces vibrant rainbows.
Solheimajokull Glacier
The journey continues with a stop at Sólheimajökull Glacier, an outlet glacier of Myrdalsjokull. Here, visitors can walk along the glacier's edges and observe the stunning ice formations that characterize this frozen landscape.
Reynisfjara Beach
The tour then proceeds to the southernmost point of the region, Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach. The beach's stark black sands provide a striking contrast to the blue expanse of the Atlantic Ocean. This dramatic landscape is further defined by towering natural features: to the west, the 400-foot (120-meter) high Dyrhólaey promontory, and to the east, the Reynisdrangar basalt sea stacks, which rise 217 feet (66 meters) from the ocean's surface.
Vik
A short distance away, the tour will visit the village of Vik, known for its tranquil atmosphere and stunning panoramic views of the surrounding cliffs, mountains, beaches, and the expansive Atlantic Ocean.
Dyrholaey
The itinerary continues with a visit to Dyrhólaey's iconic stone arch, a natural wonder sculpted by centuries of relentless ocean waves. This location offers truly unforgettable views of Iceland's dramatic and rugged coastline.
Seljalandsfoss waterfall
The South Coast exploration concludes with a visit to Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, a slender cascade that, despite its narrow flow, creates a magnificent spectacle as it plunges from a high cliff. A path encircling the waterfall offers the unique opportunity to walk behind the falling water, though, contrary to any adventurous expectations, no hidden treasures await.
