Hobbiton Movie Set
The Hobbiton Movie Set Guided Tour offers a unique opportunity to step into the enchanting world of Middle-earth, as seen in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film trilogies. Located on a picturesque farm in Matamata, New Zealand, the tour takes visitors through the beautifully preserved movie set of the Shire, where iconic scenes were filmed. Guests can wander among the charming hobbit holes, visit landmarks like Bag End and the Green Dragon Inn, and learn fascinating behind-the-scenes details from expert guides. Set amidst rolling green hills and lush pastures, the tour provides an immersive experience that delights fans of the films and showcases the cinematic magic that brought J.R.R. Tolkien’s world to life.
Blue Spring
The Blue Spring, located near Putāruru in New Zealand’s Waikato region, is renowned for its exceptionally clear, vibrant turquoise water. Fed from the Mamaku Plateau, the spring's water takes decades to filter through underground aquifers, resulting in its purity and brilliant hue. This pristine water is so clear that it supplies around 70% of New Zealand’s bottled water.
Waitomo Glowworm Caves
The Waitomo Glowworm Caves, located in the Waikato region of New Zealand’s North Island, are a world-famous natural attraction known for their enchanting population of glowworms (Arachnocampa luminosa), found only in New Zealand. These limestone caves, formed over millions of years, feature stunning geological formations such as stalactites, stalagmites, and cathedral-like chambers. The highlight of a visit is a serene boat ride through the Glowworm Grotto, where thousands of tiny glowworms illuminate the cave ceiling, creating a magical, starry-sky effect. The caves are part of a larger underground system and are accessible only by guided tour, which provides insights into the cave’s history, geology, and unique ecosystem. The Waitomo Glowworm Caves offer a truly unforgettable experience, blending natural science with quiet wonder in one of New Zealand’s most iconic landscapes.
Bridal Veil Falls
Only 15 minutes drive from Raglan, the spectacular 55-metre-high Bridal Veil Falls is a popular Waikato walking track. The Bridal Veil Falls walk is an easy 10 minute walk through native bush, following the Pakoka River for most of the way, to two viewing platforms at the top, both providing stunning vistas and ample photo opportunities of the plunging white falls flanked by grey rock and green bush. Looking down to the base of the waterfall, you will see soft sandstone rocks, worn away by the water to form a large amphitheatre. A steep set of steps leads down to the bottom of the falls. From here there is another magnificent view, directly across the pool and up at the falls.
Ngarunui Beach
Ngarunui Beach, located near Raglan on the west coast of New Zealand’s North Island, is a wide, black-sand surf beach known for its consistent waves and natural beauty. Backed by bush-covered hills and offering expansive views of the Tasman Sea, it’s a popular spot for surfers of all levels, as well as swimmers and families enjoying the shoreline. The beach has a relaxed, unspoiled vibe, with amenities like parking, public restrooms, and lifeguard patrols during the summer months. It's also close to the iconic Manu Bay, one of New Zealand’s most famous surf breaks.
Te Toto Gorge Lookout
Te Toto Gorge Lookout, situated approximately 14 kilometers south of Raglan along Whaanga Road, offers one of the most breathtaking coastal vistas in New Zealand’s Waikato region. Perched atop dramatic 150-meter cliffs on the slopes of Mount Karioi, the lookout provides sweeping views of the Tasman Sea, rugged coastline, and lush native bush. On clear days, visitors can see as far north as Port Waikato and south to Kāwhia, with Mount Taranaki occasionally visible on the horizon.
Raglan
Raglan Holiday Park is located on a peninsula in Raglan Harbour, surrounded by a laid-back atmosphere and stunning natural scenery. A picturesque walking bridge conveniently connects the park to the Raglan town center, making it easy to explore local shops, cafés, and attractions. Raglan Wharf is a bustling hub that blends maritime activity with local culture. It serves as a base for fishing, charter, and tour boats. Visitors can explore a variety of cafés and shops, including the renowned Raglan Fish, famous for its fresh seafood and classic fish and chips.
Sunset Beach
Sunset Beach in Port Waikato is a picturesque black-sand beach on New Zealand’s west coast, where the Waikato River meets the Tasman Sea. Known for its dramatic surf and expansive dunes, it’s a favorite spot for surfers, beach walkers, and photographers.
Port Waikato
The Port Waikato Sand Dunes, located where the Waikato River meets the Tasman Sea, offer a captivating landscape of rolling black sand hills shaped by wind and time. Spanning a vast area, these dunes provide a natural playground for activities like hiking, sandboarding, and photography.
