Day 1: The Adventure Begins Catch a flight from Addis Ababa to Lalibela where your guide will be waiting for you. Spend the afternoon exploring the clusters of rock-hewn churches. You'll begin with the north-western cluster: Bet Medhane Alem, Bet Maryam, Bet Meskel, and Bet Danaghel. Our local guides will help you understand the historic significance of this World Heritage Site. If you're lucky enough to visit during one of the religious festivals, you'll be a part of something few people ever experience.

Your day starts with an early morning service before visiting the south-eastern cluster of churches: Bet Gabriel-Rufael, Bet Merkorios, Bet Amanual, and Bet Abba Libanos. Finally, visit the most famous of all the churches – Bet Giyorgis. If you've done any research into Lalibela, you'll have seen pictures of Bet Giyorgis. It's the most well-preserved of all the churches and is a sure highlight of any visit of Lalibela. In the afternoon, hike to Hudad Lodge. This hike can take anywhere from 1.5 to 5 hours depending on your starting point. We'll happily make the appropriate arrangements to limit/maximise your hiking time depending on your preferences. En route, visit Asheton Maryam, a church carved into the cliff face at an elevation of nearly 4,000m. Spend the afternoon in the hills of Lalibela.

5.00Look no further for a tour company in Ethiopia. Danakil Depressio Tours surpassed all our expectations and we can’t recommend them highly enough! When we were arranging the trip, Mickey was responsive and helpful and put together a tailor-made tour for us around the Northern sites. When we couldn’t locate an eVisa a couple of days before arrival, he personally called the eVisa provider and arranged for it to be resent. The tour itself was seamless and everyone involved was friendly, knowledgable and made us feel really looked after. We usually travel independently, but the meticulous organisation meant we were able to fit in a huge amount into just 10 days and really maximise our time in the country. Thank you Mickey and the whole SET team for such a memorable trip!

5.00**200% recommended!** I feel I made an incredibly wise choice. A huge thanks to Mickey and his colleagues for providing me with an unforgettable 4-day experience in the Omo Valley. We were even lucky enough to witness the bull-jumping ceremony! The itinerary was well-organized and detailed, with comfortable hotels, smooth transportation arrangements, prompt service responses, and efficient problem-solving—no hidden fees. The trip was hassle-free yet deeply immersive in local culture, which led me to immediately book their Lalibela services. 5.00This was an excellent trip, my only complaint that it was too short. I have wanted to go to Ethiopia for years, but the stories of war and unrest put me off.. I had to overnight in Addis so I said why not take a chance and view the rock churches? I'm glad I did as it was a memorable experience. My guide Misgan was very knowledgeable, it helps when you have a practicing Orthodox Christian explain the background of everything you see. He was very friendly and attentive, I've no complaints at all with the explanations given and the light he shed on the history. The security concerns are way overblown, from my arrival to departure I didn't feel threatened at all. Misgan was great, but kudos to Mickey as well as arranged everything to flow smoothly. I will be back for a much longer visit, lots of other places I want to see!

5.00Highly recommended. Use WhatsApp App (free on iTunes) to call or text them from another country, which is what I did. Mickey was flexible, customizable, and an overall good service. Everything worked out. I paid some upfront and then the rest at airport pickup. I tipped drivers. We did a quick Lalibela tour and Danakil Depression tours have a good price compared to others. Make sure you get local plane tickets price which Mickey can do for you. We loved our trip to Ethiopia. Super interesting country. Wish we could’ve stayed longer. Next time would use again. Btw Danakil Depression tours and Ethiopian culture was great and nice with our kids young kids.

5.00Melsie an excellent guide, very knowledgeable for Lalibela and its surroundings! We really enjoyed our three and a half days with Melsie who was an excellent guide. His extensive knowledge on the architecture of Lalibela, on Ethiopian religion, and religious art but also on ornithology, vegetation and agriculture of the surrounding area made our visits fascinating. In addition, Melsie has always been attentive to our needs and interests.

5.00This was a trip of a lifetime. Ayalew was always on time and he kept to the schedule we agreed on. He and the driver picked me up at the airport and dropped me off at the airport. I stayed in Lalibela for 2 nights. The schedule was to see the churches. Ayalew walked me through all the ways that connect all the churches in the mountains. I had many questions for the priests, so Ayalew would translate all of the priests' answers in the most proper manner. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask me, but you won't regret booking your Lalibela trip through him.
