  Firstly the entire team at Sumatra Orangutan Explore were so friendly and welcoming! From our car pick ups, to hotel and restaurant staff we were looked after and had the best time, lovely chats with everyone and the facilities and food were good. The trek itself was physically very hard BUT absolutely worth it. Huge thanks to our guides Pablo and Juan for looking after everyone, being kind, patient, funny and very informative. We saw lots of monkeys but not too many orangutans with the time of year, however it was still an incredible jungle experience! The camp itself, whilst being in the jungle, was clean and camp chef Harry fed us well! The food for the entire journey was delicious and presented so nicely. We had the best time and the jungle taxi home, along with a song was so fun! Shout out once more to Pablo, Juan and Harry for being great company!

  Amazing trek with Heri 1 & Heri 2 : we saw a lot of monkeys, we ate very good food and the night at the camp was great and fun! They did our best to make sure we were never missing anything and the whole organization was perfectly on point. The last day rafting to go back to the hotel was very fun and so beautiful! Sumatra Orangutan Explore even arranged the pick up at the airport & drop off, & the hotel is amazing with the river view.   An incredible experience, I don’t have the words. I booked this trek for my birthday and it exceeded all my expectations. Another thousand thanks to the team who was amazing from the beginning to the end of the stay. We were accompanied by Didi and Pugar for the jungle trek, they were great with us, there to guide us, make us laugh, talk to us about Sumatra and its history. The meals were so generous! I was even allowed a birthday cake in the jungle!! It’s crazy! I am extremely grateful to our guides and the team for introducing us to Bukit Lawang in an ethical manner and very committed to the environmental and animal cause. It’s rare to find experiences like this where there’s nothing wrong except that it was amazing. I recommend 100% this agency if you pass by. Big kisses to the whole team I miss you already!!   Wish I could leave 6 stars 😄. Everything has been an experience of a lifetime! We were picked up by private driver in a very nice SUV, arrived at the Homestay and was warmly greeted by staff in a beautiful restaurant with a gorgeous view of the river and jungle. Got a very informative briefing and was shown to our room. We booked the family room which was very nice, study quality furniture and very clean. (The hot water didn't work on our first night but it was fine the second night in the 2nd story Family Room). The next morning we started our trek and our Indonesian guides, "Pablo" and "Juan", (Juan is pronounced "Joo-An") were the best!! They were professional, funny, had a great personalities, and very good English! Pablo had a lot of interesting knowledge to share throughout the whole trip, was engaging, made sure we were safe. Juan made sure we were safe, taken care of, and made sure we had a great time! I really appreciated that they were so respectful and was sure to smoke in a separate area to not disturb the tourists enjoyment. They made sure we kept the trek ethical (no feedings of animals, packing trash, making sure we kept a safe distance from the animals etc. We saw at least one other company set off to go lure orangutans with bananas! 😔 Stay away from those other companies.). I highly recommend this Sumatra Orangutan Explore and be sure to ask for Pablo and Juan!!

  We had an incredible experience with Sumatra Orangutan Explore, and we want to give special thanks to Dea and the whole team. After we missed our flight, the company were amazingly accommodating. The driver and staff waited around 4 hours for us to arrive, which we were so grateful for. When we finally reached Bukit Lawang around midnight, motorbikes were arranged to take us and our luggage to our accommodation. Even arriving that late, everything was handled so smoothly and professionally, and we were really impressed by all the staff. Our welcome briefing the next morning was very thorough and helped us clearly understand what we had ahead over the next couple of days. Our guides were fantastic, very knowledgeable and helpful throughout. We were lucky enough to see an orangutan as well as four different types of monkeys, which was unforgettable. The trek itself was challenging in parts, so we would recommend having a reasonable level of fitness for the 2-day trek. The guides were also very flexible, allowing us to take a slightly easier route back to the accommodation when needed. We still got to do the river rafting at the end, which was such good fun and a perfect way to finish the trip. The food was plentiful and beautifully presented every time. The jungle accommodation was basic but had everything we needed, and washing in the river was all part of the experience. We would highly recommend Sumatra Orangutan Explore.

  It was a wonderful time! All the staff were incredible, very friendly and always ready to help. We also stayed in their new accommodation, and it was really nice. Their restaurant has great food! The trekking experience was great, harder than expected. Our guides (best team) Muss and Amsu, were very friendly and fun. Wildlife was always respected, which is very important. It can be a bit crowded when seeing the orangutans. The cook that we had was great, we had a lot of food available. Definitely recommend them for this experience!

  Exceptional jungle trek and guides We did the two-day jungle trek in Sumatra with Muss and Teddy and had an exceptional experience. Spending one night in the jungle made the trip feel very immersive and special. It is one of the most unique activities I have done in Asia. Seeing the wildlife in the jungle was amazing, especially the orangutans. Watching them in their natural environment is something very different from seeing them anywhere else and was a real highlight of the trek. Muss and Teddy were excellent guides. They were knowledgeable, very experienced, and exceptionally kind throughout the entire trip. They made sure everyone felt comfortable and safe at all times. The food was really amazing. Every meal was freshly prepared, varied, and surprisingly well presented, even with small details like flowers. It was far beyond what I expected for a jungle trek. I would recommend this trek to anyone visiting Sumatra who is in good physical shape, as there are some steep and demanding sections along the way.

  Amazing experience ! All the staff members were very kind and all the meals were as beautiful as tasty. Our guides were funny, caring and most importantly respectful of us, nature, and wildlife.

  This trip was amazing from start to finish. I booked via email and the website and the staff was super responsive and helpful in suggesting the right combination of trekking, a cooking class, and other activities. The hotel and new restaurant are right on the river--beautiful, clean, modern and delicious food. I'm a solo traveler and joined a group of two other couples for our 2-day trek and we instantly bonded with each other and our guides, Didi and Jaka. The guides helped us see SO many animals! Semi-wild and wild orangutans, 4 kinds of monkeys, gibbons, hornbills, peacocks, monitor lizards. They also prepared beautiful and delicious meals in the jungle. I very much appreciate Sumatra Orangutan Explore's ethical standards for interacting with all animals in the jungle in ways that respect and promote their wildness--something that other companies do not prioritize.   A wonderful experience in the heart of the jungle and exceptional encounters with wildlife: we have seen Orang Outans twice, among other species! An organization at the top, and we were more than spoiled by our two experienced guides Putra and Pugar who prepared us real feasts and took great care of us. Thank you to the whole team, it was amazing!!!
