Matmata

Once you arrive in the south, you will visit: a Berber family living in troglodytes and the Star Wars sets. Right next to the set of the great Saga, you will have your lunch in troglodytes, a new experience for the majority.

Tamezret

A break to admire the magnificent view of the Berber village of Tamazret, an opportunity also for a good green tea with rosemary. Tama is a Berber village perched on top of the hill. Inaccessible and offers its inhabitants a clear view of the desert.

Douz

Once you arrive in Douz, extra activities are offered to you such as camel and quad (these are options, if you do not participate, you will have an hour to admire the sunset at the café). A beautiful sunset over the dunes of the Sahara. Then, you will be taken to your 4 * star hotel. You go down to your rooms and you will have time for a swim in the pool with a drink. Buffet dinner in the restaurant with a wide variety: local dishes and other specialties.

After breakfast, you leave for Kebili, the capital of the region. You will cross its beautiful oasis. Its commercial center and its souk.

Chott El Jerid

Halfway between Douz and Tozeur, you will be in the middle of the great salt lake: Chot El Jerid, to watch the magnificent sunrise. A real white salt desert, it is flat, without relief, just a white layer of salt. A stop is essential to watch a magnificent sunrise. A café in the middle of this inhospitable desert offers you drinks as well as salt, sand roses and fossils.

Chebika

A guided tour of this oasis: you will discover the canyon and the small lakes of water as well as the waterfall. Prepare your swimsuits for a swim in the lake in the middle of canyons. Follow the course of the waters under the date palms full of fruits.

  • Super tour, useless guide

    The bus rides are strenuous and long but at least you travel most of Tunisia. The bus was not very comfortable (buckles poke in the bottom and the climate did not work properly). Furthermore, due to a defect, we stood for 3 hours at a gas station. The jeeps were better, but also only air circulation through open windows. The quads are also not in good condition, but all this was fine as we knew what country we were in and what to expect. Therefore not a bad review here, just as information. All the restaurants (bus driver, quad guide, Bedouin, oasis guide, food service...) were very friendly and did their best to make our excursions as attractive as possible. Now for the most unpleasant and worst part of the tour: Our guide was very uninterested in teaching us information about country and people. Only on request was we bored explained what the next stop is. However, this could hardly be understood because the microphone on the bus did not work. We were simply told nothing on the hour-long drive. Even if we got off the bus it was only said how long you have to take photos, Our guide then always went into a coffee and waited until we got back on the bus. So for the tour itself there are 5 stars. The guide was completely redundant, the bus driver would have been enough for us.

    Booked this tour expecting a group excursion however was Surprised it was only the two of us with our guide Ali. A very unique and VIP experience! Ali was an amazing tour guide, very knowledgeable and full of expertise. The night in the Sahara and Amphitheater were the highlights!!!

    Absolutely loved the tour, our guide Kamel was extremely kind and knowledgable - told us so many lovely stories and facts about each site we visited. He also provided the tour in 5 languages on the day! Really impressive. The itinerary was as described, the highlights were watching the sunset in the Sahara desert and enjoying a meal under the stars. All of the food provided throughout the trip was delicious. The quad and camel rides were also very enjoyable (these will be charged extra as described in the tour details). Visiting a traditional Berber village was really lovely too. The hotel we stayed at was nice and clean, with a great breakfast the next morning - please bear in mind that you won’t be at the hotel for long, just to sleep and have breakfast the next morning. If you want to watch the sunrise on the second day then you will need to wake up very early! You will watch a beautiful desert sunset on day one but catching the sunrise the following morning is also very special. The only downside is the long journeys on the minibus, but there is no way around that as there is a large distance to cover (a sufficient number of stops are provided for coffee/toilet breaks) - ensure to bring a book or download a show to watch on your phone, you could also simply nap on the minibus during the long stretches. All-in-all, although the tour is quite tiring and covers many areas, it is 100% worth it. We are happy that we were able to visit so many beautiful parts of Tunisia and to meet lovely people. Thank you to everyone at Caravane du Sahara.
