As Beijing’s most iconic landmark and a crown jewel of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Forbidden City stands as a testament to China’s imperial grandeur—its red walls and golden rooftops holding centuries of Ming and Qing dynasty history, art, and tradition. For every traveler to Beijing, a visit to this imperial palace is a must—but exploring it alone is tricky: not only are tickets hard to secure, its vast courtyards and similar-looking halls can feel overwhelming without context. That’s why this 2-hour private tour is perfect if you’re short on time yet eager to truly understand the Forbidden City’s significance: our guide will unlock the stories behind its architecture and artifacts, turning a simple visit into a vivid journey through China’s royal past. We offer two flexible options to suit your needs: the Economy (you cover transport, with our guide helping plan subway/taxi routes) and Comfort (round-trip private car for a seamless ride).
Hall of Great Harmony (Taihe Dian)
Your tour begins at your hotel: if you’ve chosen the Economy Option, your guide will meet you in the lobby and share tips for taking subway or taxi to the Forbidden City; if you’ve selected the Comfort Option, both your guide and driver will greet you, and you’ll head straight to the palace in a private car. Once at the Forbidden City, your guide will lead you through its most important sites, starting with the Hall of Supreme Harmony—the largest and most grand imperial hall, once used for coronations and major ceremonies, with its intricate dragon carvings symbolizing imperial power. Next is the Hall of Central Harmony, where emperors rested and prepared before official events, its smaller scale balancing the grandeur of the first hall. You’ll then visit the Hall of Preserving Harmony, a space that hosted imperial exams and state banquets, showcasing the palace’s role in both governance and culture. Moving to the Inner Court (the imperial family’s private quarters).

5.00I had a business meeting cancel last minute, so I had a morning to do something. This was the perfect tour and the perfect guide, Anson! He was amazingly knowledgeable, explained everything to me, helped me hit the highlights, showed me where to take the best photos, and got me back in time for my afternoon meetings. I highly recommend the tour and Anson as your guide.

5.00This tour is amazing and quite true to its name, showcasing the highlights of Tiananmen and Forbidden City in 2 hours approximately give or take. Our driver picked us up on time from the hotel lobby that is close to Forbidden City and dropped us off as close as they could to Tiananmen Square and our guide Lucy acted as escort and provided the tour with numerous facts. We learned so much, from architecture to history to modern times about Tiananmen and Forbidden City. It is still the top #1 destination for local Chinese even over the Great Wall! We went during the beginning of Labour holiday in China also so there was a lot of car and foot traffic but we were able to get past the bigger tours due to our small group with guide Lucy and driver. It was very pretty during holiday season. After the tour, the driver dropped us off on time at our hotel. We are so grateful we booked this tour or else we would have been stuck behind with the big tours. After our tour, we used the extra time in the day to do some shopping at Wangfujing St. This tour was 100% worth every penny!
Would recommend- great way to see Beijing attractions.

5.00Very very good tour. We went with Miko and he is a rockstar. Very knowledgeable, does a great job with photography and he does a nice job both getting you to the forbidden city and Tian’anmen square in addition to talking through all the historical facts about the areas. He is also very knowledgeable about NBA and he speaks incredible English. Very happy with Miko!!!

She was very knowledgable and had impeccable English. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who wants to learn more about the Forbidden City.

5.00Had an enjoyable morning, thanks to my tour guide Susan who showed me the Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City. To begin with, the tour saved me from queuing up for the tickets, which would have taken at least an hour. Susan picked me up from the hotel, and we quickly built a rapport along the way to the landmarks. She was friendly, and offered to take some photos as we cut through the Tiananmen Square to enter the Forbidden City via the south gate. I enjoyed listening to the history and anecdotes of the China emperors. Susan kept the tour interesting by making me guess some of the answers rather than plainly telling the facts. Thanks Susan for making it a memorable tour for me. Highly recommended!

5.00Exceptional English speaking guide! Very informative and fun! Going early was good to avoid some of the crowds. He spent time helping us navigate unexpected traffic at end. If you are short on time this is great option.
