It's a very good baseline to the battle. It was helpful to have someone point and explain the various landmarks. We did the tour, and then immediately went back to a few of the places that we wanted to see more of. For example, we went to the top of little round top on the tour, but went back to see the spot of Chamberlain's Charge. We saw a watchtower overlooking Pickett's Charge on the tour, but didn't stop so we went back to climb it. The guide was knowledgeable and the tour helped give us the lay of the land. But plan extra time if you have specific places you want to see.
