History buffs will be delighted to visit Mont Saint-Michel on foot for two hours in the company of a guide who is generous in the stories he will tell you: the human, spiritual and cultural adventures of the mythical Mont Saint-Michel through the centuries. From the Information Centre, you will go to the Mont by free shuttle or on foot, depending on your choice. Your guided and told tour will last two hours through the cobbled streets of the village to the foot of the abbey. You will then know all the secrets of this unique site: the tides, the dam, the bay ecosystem, the entire history of the Mount, from its construction to today, its legends with an experienced guide who will make you love this place and will amuse you with funny and exciting anecdotes. At the end of your tour, the guide will give you the entrance ticket to the abbey, a place that will enhance your experience at the Mount, and avoid queuing at the ticket office.

5.00We took this in the afternoon slot as a family of four English speakers paired with a group of six French speakers, 10 total in group. Our guide did a great job splitting the narration time, and that gave us valuable opportunities to amble and take photos when she spoke to the others. I speak enough French to tell we were getting the same content in each language. I felt like our tour group got to more small alleys and back streets than most of the others. Given that this was a two hour tour, when many others are just one, there was time for it. And our guide did use the full two hours to get us to the entrance of the Abbey, which is self guided. We spent about another hour in the Abbey and then wandered down slowly along the ramparts. Expect to easily kill 3.5 hours, even more if you want to browse shops. The sunset made a dramatic finish, which perhaps gives advantage to the afternoon time slot. Our guide presented lots of history and local lore. Mont Michel itself is a must see, and I’d certainly take this tour over any of the shorter and less detailed ones. There were plenty of restaurants and hotels on the island—more than I had anticipated. Though we didn’t have the time, adding a sit-down meal and hotel stay would conclude an ideal visit.

3.00The tour guide was very good and knowledgeable. Taking a tour really enhances the visit since the town, while quaint, is mainly restaurants and souvenir shops. I rated this down because I purchased an English tour and we got a bilingual one, which slowed it down dramatically. I would not have done it if I knew we’d have to sit through French descriptions too. The vendor refused a partial refund.

5.00Wonderful experience! Our guide was amazing and very informative. He was funny and made the trip very enjoyable, while delivering all the historical context of this amazing place. It was also really wonderful to go in early November during the down season because there was not many people and it was very uncrowded. Loved this tour!
