Moving a large group around a crowded urban landscape is tough, but thought we'd walk more than about 8 blocks on this tour; HEAVY on the history, loads of dates and names of kings, but I wish our Guide had sort of made history to come to life with his tour and it felt a bit more like a tour that guys who like history would appreciate, but maybe not so much others; we finally had to leave at 1:15 pm (tour was 11:00 - 1:00) as hungry and hard to stand still that long without walking

My wife and I always want to know more about the history of the places we visit, and this tour was just what we were looking for. Our guide Sylvie was very knowledgeable and friendly, and we liked the way she presented the information and answered questions. I would highly recommend this tour.

We travel a LOT and when possible, we book a history tour when visiting a new place. We’ve been on dozens so trust me when I say that this was literally the best history tour we’ve ever experienced. Partly this was due to Sylvie’s (I hope I’m spelling her name correctly!) deep knowledge and obvious love for the subject of Irish and Dublin history, but also it was due to the way she structured the tour. As an educator myself (and Sylvie is a former history professor) I appreciate information that’s organizer in a coherent and engaging way. Many other history tours we’ve been on are interesting but scattered in thought and chronology. This tour was crafted with a clear linear direction, leading us from the first inklings of Irish separation from Britain all the way to the rebellions for independence. This was also seamlessly woven into the story of religion which was so intertwined in the history of this place. Another notable aspect was the way in which she’d take questions and even allow the questions to go down small thought detours, but she never lost the plot. And lastly, she was so kind and generous with her time. One thing that may be underestimated in what takes place in an outstanding history tour such as this, is that visitors go away well prepared to understand the sights and places that will follow on their trip. From this tour - over the next two days - we visited the national history museum, the Book of Kells, St. Patrick’s cathedral and the Guinness storehouse. In literally each location, we referred back to the history tour we experienced with Sylvie. Her words also helped us to be more knowledgable about Dublin in general and this really improved our conversations with the people we met. We cannot recommend this tour with Sylvie enough and we are so grateful to have had this experience.

Two plus hours walking tour which taught as a lot about Irish and Dublin history. Coalan Maher was an excellent guide full of knowledge, humor and great poems. We enjoyed every minute despite the sometimes heavy rain and wind.

Caolan was the best presenter & guide we had while in Ireland. He is an amazing story teller & his love of history is palpable. Especially cool was his wealth of knowledge on Dublin Castle & tidbits shared off the cuff like, “over there you can see a wall dating back to the Vikings…” or his family’s connection to the war for independence. He is authentic, delightful, highly informed & spending a couple hours with him was thoroughly worth our time & money. Thank you Caolan! ~ Meg, Chris, Drew & Matt from Atlanta GA
