Ojai has a 100-year history of ceramics. Our studio, located a mile from the city center, is surrounded by nature, in the midst of a fruit orchard.
We are a working studio for many of the great artists in the Ojai Valley. Visitors may watch potters work, and may "try their hand" at a range of techniques. After making their pottery, they may may pay a small fee for our staff to trim, glaze and high-fire the work. This "finishing" work takes about 3 weeks. Visitors may also come back to glaze their OWN work. There is no charge for this. AND we will even ship your pieces anywhere in the country...

We will first do a tour of the studio and gallery, looking at kinds of pottery, visiting the kilns and learning about the process. We do a quick "demo" of pottery throwing. Then visitors don aprons, sit down at their wheels, and (with lots of hands-on help) begin making pots! Everyone should be able to make 4 or 5 pieces. For safety purposes, all of our workshops are now PRIVATE for each group. Your group may be one person or 8, but you will not share the classroom with any other students.

5.00We had a great time! Two hours passed in a heartbeat as we worked, with help, to tame the balls of clay. This is absolutely a great activity for anyone - even someone who's not so great with their hands. For our group of 11 (with 2 7-year-olds) we had 3 potters from Firestick Pottery helping us. After a tour and discussion of the process we were given a wheel potting demonstration. Then, with as much or as little help as we wanted, we could make up to 5 pieces of pottery. If you live nearby, you can return to Firestick and for a small fee learn how to glaze your pieces. Since neither of us lived nearby we opted to have Firestick glaze our pieces for a fee of $15/piece. And, for a very reasonable charge, they will pack and send our completed pieces to us. My friend and I agreed we'd absolutely do this again!

5.00Had a super time shaping clay into bowls, plates and vases, and had fun creating great memories with one of my best friends. Everyone there was genuinely friendly, helpful and made it a great experience. I’m looking forward to coming back to make more.

5.00So much fun with family in our pottery class. The teachers helping during the class were so positive and helpful. They were so patient with us first timers learning the wheel. We all made a few items we are keeping. Highly recommended the pottery class!

5.00Educational, and a GREAT experience for two novice seniors. Had the opportunity to make five pottery pieces, and shop in their gallery filled with lovely pieces. Robin, Arron and Liz are amazing artists, with passion for their craft.

5.00It was a very instructive class - and the best time ever! I took my friend for her birthday, and we both can't wait to go back! We made bowls, cups, a vase, a ring holder and three sizes of votive holders (all would be great gifts). Also, The lovely people who work at Firestick Pottery were so patient and kind. (Thanks Ella and Aaron!) We very much look forward to displaying and using our ceramic "art" proudly. You won't regret taking this class, I promise.

5.00Fun and welcoming experience. Plenty of kind experts on hand to guide (or rescue) your work. All material and equipment provided. Nice gallery for shopping. You don’t leave with a finished product so plan to come back or make use of shipping.

5.00Fantastic family activity. The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. We all developed a great appreciation for pottery making. You get to make 5 pieces each and will have to go back to glaze the pieces.

5.00You get 5 balls of clay to work with, so if all goes well you could end up with 5 pieces. We live to far away to complete the kiln/glaze process, but will be excited to see our final work! The completion process is $15 per piece and we picked our best ones! The teachers (Erin and Aaron) were VERY helpful!
