We are certified lifeguard and ISA2 (International Surfing Association) to surf in safety.
You are beginners or level advanced? No problem! We give surf lessons in the white water and also inside the ocean.

We will go to the beautiful natural reserve of Playa Grande (20 min walking) where is our surf spot! Playa Grande is a beautiful beach with white sand between the jungle and the Ocean. This place is amazing! After a short walk, we will start the surf lesson (2 hours including a break with fresh fruits). Depending to your level, you will have a special surfboard. The surf lesson will start with a short training in the sand to explain you everything to make your experience unforgettable! (How stay in safety in the ocean, how to position your body on the surfboard to keep the balance...) After these explanations, let's go to the water! It's by practicing that we learn! The surf instructor will stay behind you to push your surfboard into the waves. Your objective for the first surf lesson? Stand up on your board, be confident and feel the sensations and the adrenaline surfing the waves! To summary: Have fun in safety. After one hour surfing, you will have a break with the surf instructor to relax and regain strength... to return to the waves when you are ready! At the end of the surf lesson, you will come back to Montezuma with the team.

5.00Excellent service in all possible aspects. Nego is super friendly, knows a lot about surfing, has a lot of patience to teach from scratch. It makes corrections to what you need to improve each time. With only three lessons I learned enough to surf as a beginner on my own. I hope to come back to advance further!

5.00Super good experience! We took the class with my girlfriend and enjoyed every second. First time surfing for both of us and the instructors of By The Wave made it pleasent and encouraging. The instructors were both relaxed and highly professional. They gave important personalized tips on how to improve one's surfing and step up the game. Thanks to By The Wave for an inspiring start on the journey into this sport.

5.00We had the best experience! The owner responded quickly on WhatsApp and coordinated everything seamlessly. Our instructor, Jairo, was extremely experienced and patient with us as beginners. He made the experience one we will never forget. I would recommend this to anyone who ever comes to Montezuma and wants to try to surf!

5.00My very first surf lesson was absolutely top. After 20 minutes of hiking we reached the beautiful Playa Grande. After theoretical instruction and dry exercises in the sand, we went into the water. My surf instructor Nego managed to get me to the beach as a bloody beginner twice in a standing position. An unforgettable experience!

5.00We had our first ever surf lesson with Nego and it was great. He was very patient and extremely helpful, which was needed since we are in our 40s and didn’t know what to expect. I would highly recommend the class, Nego, and learning to surf there.

5.00Jairo and Nego took great care of us, they didn’t just teach us how to ride waves but how to surf. We loved it so much we did 5 lessons and improved a lot during the time. Montezuma is an excellent place to learn how to surf because the waves are more beginner friendly and less crowded. They generously provided fruits and coconuts and overall it was a great experience! 10/10

5.00Bego is the best instructor - very attentive, on time, the lessons are long are every time he tries to teach you smth new, pushes you to learn faster and always gives a feedback on every way. Next time I’m in Costa Rica - def taking classes with him again.
