Witless Bay ecological reserve

Every spring and summer the four islands that make up the reserve become a nesting ground for approximately 4 million seabirds. Several different species that can be seen on the islands include: the second largest colony of Leach’s Storm-Petrel in the world (620,000 pairs), Common Murre, Razorbill Auk, Black-Legged Kittiwake, Great Black-backed Gull, Black Guillemot, Nothern Fulmar, Thick-billed Murre, and Herring Gull.

This is a late review but take it as a Christmas present... We had a great trip on the 2-hour tour from Bay Bulls in August, Didn't see any whales, it was a bit late for that, and the weather was up and down (it's Newfoundland!) but we did see thousands of puffins, murres and other birds, and the bird colonies were fascinating. Liam was a great guide, very entertaining, enormously knowledgeable (and he's only 17!) and a pretty good singer too. Absolutely recommended, sorry it's taken us so long to say so!

Loved going out on the end of season cruise. Managed to see puffins and appreciated their willingness to look for them. Excellent experience highly recommended.

We were so lucky to see minke whales before we even really took off! And after that, it was a party on the boat with live music, informative (and funny) commentary, some fishing, drinks, and screeching. The staff were so amazing, from the captain to the bartender, we all enjoyed the experience. HIGHLY recommend.

We had such an amazing time on O'Brien's boat tour! The staff were so fun and engaging. It was one of the last tours of the season but we still saw puffins, bald eagles and sun fish. The views along the shoreline were breath taking! Definitely recommend taking a trip with O'Brien's!

Excellent tour, informative and well organized. Our tour guide Noah had so much energy and truly exhibited his passion for all the wildlife that we saw on the tour. We were lucky enough to see a female whale and her calf up close as they remained close to the tour boat for a few minutes. There were so many birds of numerous species. Noah gave us great information on how to identify them. I highly recommend this tour for all ages.

Despite it being late in the season, we were still able to see puffins! No whales at this time of year sadly but understandable. Staff were friendly and great.

Late season experience, so only some puffins, but the crew made it a great day. Still great to see the coastline with excellent narrative. The puffins that were there, were amazing.

The shuttle was prompt and friendly. The crew was welcoming, entertaining and humourous. Despite mid-Sept. being off season for puffins and whales, we did see many puffins. The live music and Screetching In ceremony made the tour all the more enjoyable. If you've come this far to Newfoundland, it's a must to get out into the water with O'Brien's boat tours. Seriously!

Great friendly crew, very informative, overall a wonderful experience to remember. Beautiful scenery, including two Bald Eagle sightings. Due to time of year (September), no whale sightings. The screech in ceremony was a riot to watch.
