Witless Bay Ecological Reserve
Every spring and summer the four islands that make up the reserve become a nesting ground for approximately 4 million seabirds. Several different species that can be seen on the islands include: the second largest colony of Leach’s Storm-Petrel in the world (620,000 pairs), Common Murre, Razorbill Auk, Black-Legged Kittiwake, Great Black-backed Gull, Black Guillemot, Nothern Fulmar, Thick-billed Murre, and Herring Gull.

5.00If you’re visiting Newfoundland, I can’t recommend O’Brien’s Whale & Bird Tours enough. The tour was informative, entertaining, and full of those “I can’t believe I’m actually seeing this” moments. We spotted bald eagles, whales, puffins, and countless other seabirds along the way. What stood out most was how much the crew genuinely cared that everyone on board had a great experience. They made sure everyone got a good view, answered questions, and somehow made two hours on the water fly by. An unforgettable day from start to finish.

5.00You 100% need to do this tour. The staff are brilliant...super friendly and very knowledgeable. The experience itself was fun, educational, and to see a whale in its natural habitat is something I will never forget.

5.00Absolutely magical trip to see the puffins and seabirds and extremely fortunate to have an iceberg near the bay. Highly recommend. Great communication from the company, very well organized, appreciated the quick way I could reschedule a tour, great crew!!! Bathrooms and a bar on board is a definite bonus

5.00We had a wonderful afternoon. The boat took us around the grounded iceberg in the harbour.. it was spectacular! And the bird island reserve was awesome. Saw some eagles scatter the birds, and so many species of birds. No whales today, but trip will be memorable for a long time. Noah was great guide, full of enthusiasm and fun as well as knowledge of birds.

5.00This was a fabulous experience on O'Brien's Whale and Bird Tour in Bay Bulls, Newfoundland and Labrador. It was a glorious June day with sunshine and the most gorgeous blue sky, along with the infamous wind. The admission fee was well worth the cost and very reasonable for a 2 hour tour. There is a bar on the boat, so you can enjoy some Iceberg Beer in the famous blue bottle, brewed right at Quidi Vidi in St. John's. The highlight was seeing a magnificent, massive iceberg. The captain circled it several times giving everyone plenty of opportunities to take photos and admire its beauty from every angle. The wildlife was amazing as well. We saw countless birds (the most they have seen in years) including puffins, murres (turrs) and even 3 bald eagles. There were thousand of birds and the captain slowed down the boat so that we could enjoy the beauty of the their flights and sounds. The narration throughout the tour was excellent - informative, educational and engaging and we were offered to ask questions. The crew was professional, friendly and made safety a priority by clearly explaining all safety procedures before our departure. To top it all off, there was a traditional Screech-In ceremony and fun sing-along that added to the Newfoundland and Labrador experience. They had Newfoundland music playing throughout. This was an outstanding tour from start to finish. I highly recommend it for anyone visiting Newfoundland and Labrador looking for a memorable adventure on the water.
