Arromanches-les-Bains
INCLUDED IN OPTIONS: 2-HOUR BRITISH SECTOR – HALF DAY – FULL DAY Your driver will take you to Arromanches-les-Bains. It was on this beach that, during the Battle of Normandy, immediately after D-Day on June 6th, 1944, the Allies established Mulberry B, a temporary artificial harbor designed to allow the landing of heavy equipment without having to wait for the capture of deep-water ports such as Le Havre or Cherbourg (Cherbourg-en-Cotentin since 2016). Although located in the center of the Gold Beach landing zone, Arromanches was spared the worst of the fighting on D-Day. To enable the rapid installation and proper functioning of the harbor, it was essential not to damage the beach and to preserve the surrounding communication routes. British troops therefore landed farther east, between Asnelles and Ver-sur-Mer, and liberated Arromanches by land on the evening of June 6th. The harbor was put into service on June 14th.

John made this experience the highlight of our trip to Paris with his WW2 knowledge and passion. He had a keen ability to connect directly with his guests and ensure they receive the experience they want! Great character. Thanks John. Salut. 6 hour side car experience is something we will never forget.

Our tour guide, John, was phenomenal. I did this trip with my eight year old son. We both truly enjoyed the experience and learned a lot. I would recommend this trip to anyone looking for something out of the box. Truly an adventure.

This was the perfect way to make history fun for kids. Ours were 12 and 14 and loved sitting on the back of the motorcycle and riding in the side car. Remi and John were great guides who clearly loved their job and enjoyed sharing Normandy with visitors. Highly recommend!

This trip with Phillip was so much fun, informative and sometimes overwhelming. Phillip explained so many things to us as we traveled the countryside to the beaches. Phillip provided so much information about D-Day and the invasion and what occurred and why. We took many pictures. had a fabulous lunch and even got to see our old friend Remi. Would I recommend this tour, absolutely, it’s the only way to see Normandy.

Merci, Remi -- well done! We went on the 6-hour tour with Remi as our fabulous guide. What a wonderful experience, even with a slight chill in the air (bring a warm jacket if the weather is cool!). If going as a couple, one rides in the sidecar and the other behind the driver on a bicycle-type seat with a handle to hold onto so some agility is needed (that said, we are 70 and we were able to do it). Now to the tour itself: Remi drove expertly to each destination (no GPS needed!) and since we were on a motorcycle, we could often get in closer than cars could. We parked and walked the various beaches on the itinerary with Remi providing a great deal of history and pointing out features and equipment. We toured bunkers, saw monuments and memorials, and noted landscape features and how they impacted the assault. Remi also suggested a restaurant where we could make a quick lunch stop with very good food (he knows many locals in each area we visited, greeting them by name). Remi made the tour interesting, informative, and entertaining (but appropriate to the serious subject matter). I was very impressed that he tailored his information to our level of knowledge, since my husband is well steeped in WWII history. This is a very worthwhile tour and we recommend it to anyone who wants to understand a little bit what it was like for those brave men to land on these beaches on D-Day.

Excellent all around. Our guide, John was top notch, truly. He was full of information and just a pleasure to be with. His passion and respect shines through and instantly created rapport. I booked this for me and my teenage daughter who, let’s be honest folks, it’s hard to impress her if you’re not an iPhone or her gangly boyfriend. That said, she was smiles (some yawns) and declared she had fun. That’s the seal of approval if there ever is one. We booked 2 hours and wish we’d booked more. Do not second guess if you want to do this. Book it NOW!

sorry- but i must keep pressing a wrong key that erases my LONG dissertation how about how wonderful of an experience my sidecar excursion was- so briefly, exquisite in every way. just me- in a side car with John, my knowledgable, kind and thoughtful and fun driver and guide. Also a real sincere British gent. so no translation issues... If you are going with another person- be sure he or she enjoys being on the seat behind the driver. if so- could be the coolest experience... if not.?? John tailored the trip to what I wanted to see. Important time for contemplation The beaches, a lot of history and the whole experience of racing through the old town are a total must if you have the $$. I was lucky- there was almost never a car on the road - no one can guarantee that for you- but it was sublime!!!

This was an INCREDIBLE experience. There is no better way to experience the Omaha Beach area than on a sidecar motorcycle with these tour guides. Access to places other tours do not go, experiencing the smells of the French countryside, and just great insight into how D-Day and beyond was fought. Well done and would do it again (my daughter is already asking:-) )
