Sakur Trail，According to historical documents and oral accounts, in the early years, the area around was abundant with Formosan alder trees, locally referred to as "Formosan alder feet." The Amis tribe called it "Sakur" . During the Japanese colonial era, when place names were being established, the area was renamed Sakura, pronounced as "Sakura" in Japanese kanji characters. In 2007, after the local residents officially named it the "Sakiraya Tribe," the people of the tribe chose to name it "Sakur." The "Sakur Trail" is a suburban trail constructed using natural ecological methods, suitable for people of all ages. It is approximately 1.35 kilometers in length, taking about 40 to 60 minutes to walk. Upon entering the trailhead, individuals can choose either the left or right path based on their personal stamina. It is recommended to take the right path as it is easier to walk along, with fewer steep ascents and stairs.
Xiulin
Jiamin Village is a tribal community of the Taroko people, known for their straightforward and optimistic personalities, relying on farming and hunting for livelihoods, and living in harmony with the mountains, endowed with robust physical health from birth. Due to its unique geographical environment, the village boasts the beauty of green mountains and clear waters. Villagers enjoy hunting and gathering throughout the seasons, as well as gathering for drinking and conversation. They inherit traditional craftsmanship from their ancestors, including traditional weaving, bamboo, rattan, wood, and stone carving, as well as cultural artifacts such as backpacks and chairs. The main agricultural product of the village is mountain ferns

5.00We had an absolutely unforgettable day tour with Allen, and we truly couldn’t have asked for a better guide. From the very beginning, it was clear that Allen is a wonderful guide, incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about what he does. His knowledge of history, local facts, culture, and the natural environment completely amazed us. Every explanation was clear, engaging, and full of interesting details, and thanks to him everything we saw along the way made perfect sense. He didn’t just show us the sights, he helped us understand them, bringing the places to life with stories and context that made the experience so much richer. The itinerary was perfectly planned, covering all the main points of interest in the Hualien area, including the stunning Taroko Gorge, while still feeling relaxed and enjoyable. The tour truly had a bit of everything: breathtaking scenery, fascinating history, hidden spots, and plenty of memorable moments. It never felt rushed, and Allen always made sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. On top of all that, Allen is extremely friendly, kind, and funny. His sense of humor and warm personality made the whole day even more special. He created such a positive and relaxed atmosphere that it felt less like a guided tour and more like exploring with a knowledgeable friend. We laughed a lot and had an amazing time from start to finish. Thanks to Allen, this day became one of the most special highlights of our entire trip. His professionalism, enthusiasm, and genuine care for his guests truly set him apart. We honestly cannot recommend Allen enough. 5.00Allen picked me up and then explained the itinerary clearly to me. In a one day tour I've been able to get a good impression of Hualien. Although many people come to see Taroko National Park, what stuck out to me the most was the scenery and the local life in Hualien. It also offers a very interesting history of the natives, which Allen can explain to you in detail. If you are looking for a different and unique experience in Taiwan then I definitely recommend this tour!

Do Not Book This Tour If On A Cruise Ship

1.00Unfortunately, due to weather, our ship was unable to call into Hualien. The minute we were advised by the captain that we couldn’t get in, I advised the tour operator that our ship wouldn’t be arriving at the port. When back at home, I requested a refund since the tour wasn’t delivered and the tour operator refused. This was completely out of our control and we don’t think it is right to not refund at least part of the tour cost since there was no work done on their part. Might be a great option if you are staying on land but don’t book if on a cruise.

5.00Fantastic Tour with our guide Allen, very professional guide and ready for our every need. He explained in detail the history of each place visited and the history of Taiwan. Allen answered every question we had about Aboriginal and ethnic culture. Private tour to the ocean beaches; then through the gorges of Taroko National Park; typical Aboriginal lunch (very good); visit to the waterfalls; visit to the largest Taoist temple in Hualien. Thank you for everything Allen you were amazing.

5.00Allen was attentive as a tour guide and had many historical facts to share. If you want to learn more about the culture and people of Hualien and the surrounding area you need to take his tour. My partner and I quite enjoyed his stories and sense of humor as we spent a whole day touring the city, national park, and local culture.
