I went on tour with Thomas today of the DMZ. It was a large group tour where we visited the Third Tunnel, Imjingak Park, Dora Observatory and the Gamaksan Suspension Bridge. In addition to the stops, Thomas did a good job discussing the history and current political events that have shaped the relationships between the two Koreas, as well as sharing how the constant presence of Korea's mad northern neighbor has altered the labs of ordinary Koreans. While the JSA remains closed to tourism, I felt a got a great experience from this tour. Highlights for me include wandering into a museum in Imjingak Park showing exhibits about how life is in North Korea and overhearing a defector talk about their experiences, looking out into North Korea from Dora Observatory (it was a sunny day, so got to see the propaganda village, Kaesong and the Industrial Complex), and the recorded broadcasts of family reuniting after being separated during the war. The tunnel was good exercise and was also interesting. Suspension bridge was fine, but not really as much to my tastes. Tour overall was well organized and would recommend for those interested in history.

My mum and I had the most incredible experience visiting the DMZ. Our tour guide Winnie was absolutely fantastic, I swear she was born to be a tour guide. Super knowledgeable with Korean history and extremely friendly and personable. If you get a chance to book with Winnie for this tour I’d 1000% recommend you do so!

Amazing experience travelling around the DMZ with Winnie, the best tour guide. Humbling experience and incredible to see North Korea, the 3rd Tunnel and the swinging bridge. Does include a small hike and walking in confined spaces in the Tunnel but well worth booking with Winnie.
