Arrive in Bujumbura, pick up and transfer to your hotel- Safari Gate. Depending on the arrival time, we may proceed with the city tour.
Rusizi National Park
Rusizi National Park is a national park in Burundi, next to the Rusizi River. It is 15 km north of the city of Bujumbura and home to hippopotamuses and sitatungas. Gustave, a Nile crocodile, is rumored to have killed 300 people here.
Bujumbura
Part of the Rift Valley lake system, Lake Tanganyika is the longest freshwater lake in the world (420 miles) and extends into Burundi, Tanzania, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Numerous rivers flow into the lake, including the Rusizi, and in turn, it flows outwards into the Lukuga which forms part of the Congo Basin. It is home to around 400 different species of fish including many cichlid species which are found only here. It was first ‘discovered’ by the explorers Burton and Speke in 1858 during their search for the source of the Nile, and saw action during World War I when British and German forces engaged in gunboat battles on the lake.

After breakfast at 7:00 A.M, transfer to Rutana to see the amazing Karera waterfalls and the source of Nile in Rutovu. Visit Gitega national museum a collection of artifacts and antiquities from Burundi and Gishora drum sanctuary before transfer to Bujumbura. Overnight at your hotel.
Karera Waterfalls
Karera Waterfalls or the chutes de la Karera is a collective name attributed to four waterfalls found in Burundi- in the province of Rutana. The beautiful one of the four waterfalls is the one you reach first when you get there. It is where you can park your car. Upstream from this is often the tiniest of the four falls, Nyakai II, a perfect spot where you can have an impromptu shower. This watercourse is linked to that of Mwaro Falls before creating the namesake and tallest waterfall within the area- Karera Falls. They are approximately 70 m tall and they are one of the most beautiful natural wonders in Burundi.

The Livingstone–Stanley Monument at Mugere marks a location where explorer and missionary Dr. David Livingstone and journalist and explorer Henry Morton Stanley visited and spent two nights on 25–27 November 1871 in Burundi.

5.00Had a great 3-day visit to Burundi and were very wll looked after by Augustine Tours and our guide Thierry. Hotel Club du Lac Tanganyika was a great place to stay with comfortable rooms and good food. The roads are bumpy so travellong takes a long time but seeing the country was a great experience and all the stops were worthwhile. Burundo is friendly, safe and definitely recommended for somewhere different.

5.00Burundi is not a common destination for Americans and frankly I was a bit nervous. This country deserves more than the three days we spent there. Wasting no time, Hippo, our guide picked us up whisked us off to Parc National de la Rusizi. He communicated well in English and was able to explain the historical background and future trajectory for Burundi. We covered much of the country including the Chautes de la Karena and the source of the Nile. I would highly recommend Burundi to any adventurer who is looking for a less touristy destination in Africa.

5.00It was difficult finding a travel agency until I saw a recommendation in Lonely Planet Guide. The agent helped me arrange a visa, a tour and a good hotel at a reasonable price I could afford. I was very grateful. The guide was excellent and as conscientious as anyone could be. All together, I could not have traveled there on my own without their help.
