  Excellent tour. The guide and driver were excellent, very informative, hard working, very attentive and good company. The food was well above what we expected - considering how remote the tour is. The staff work hard to make it an enjoyable experience for all their guests. The overall organisation was good, although expect to sometimes have delays in receiving information - for us this was not a problem. Thank you ETT for a great trip. We will use you again and recommend you.

  I joined a 3-day, 2-night Danakil tour and it was an absolutely unforgettable experience from start to finish. The communication from Japan before the trip was excellent—quick, clear, and reassuring, which made me feel very confident about booking. Once the tour began, the staff were incredibly attentive and thoughtful, even in the extreme heat. The drivers were skilled and reliable, and the food throughout the trip was much better than expected. The surreal landscapes of Dallol and the glowing lava lake at Erta Ale were simply breathtaking—like being on another planet. The team also took every precaution to ensure our safety, which I greatly appreciated. This tour was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had while traveling. • Breathtaking, Safe, and Once in a Lifetime

  I recently joined Ethio Travel and Tours for their 3-day Danakil Depression tour, and it was an unforgettable experience. The landscapes were surreal — from the colorful hydrothermal fields of Dallol to the otherworldly salt flats and the active Erta Ale volcano, most of which we had completely to ourselves. ETT handled the logistics well, especially considering how remote and harsh the region is. The guides were knowledgeable and made safety a priority, and the drivers navigated the rough terrain like pros. Accommodation and food were basic, as expected in such a remote area, but sufficient. If you’re looking for comfort, this isn’t the tour for you — but if you’re after raw adventure and jaw-dropping scenery, it’s absolutely worth it. I leave you with a poem that I wrote while reflecting alone on Lake Assale: rain falls on crusted salt stagnates till you can walk on cloud top today, this peace is mine alone.

  We traveled with this agency to the Erta Ale volcano area and the Danakil Depression, contracted with them for April 20-21-22, 2025. I would like to comment on their appalling treatment, lies, financial damage (more than €1,500), and, above all, the moral damage and stress they caused us. We informed them from the beginning that our return flight to Addis Ababa was from Semera, the origin of the tour, to which they made no objection. On the second day, they told us that the two of us would be driving to Semera for the flight. Later, they told us they would try to change our flight so we would depart from Mekele. On the third and final day, they informed us that they had managed to change our return flight to Addis Ababa and that we would all be going to Mekele. When we arrived at the airport, they quickly said goodbye to us, telling us everything was sorted, and then they left. Our surprise came when we checked in for our flights and were told we didn't have tickets from Mekele but from Semera. They also told us there were no seats on the next flights, and there were only two seats for the next day in business class. We also had to find a hotel. The worst part was that we not only missed that flight from Semera, but also another flight to Jinka, accommodations, vacation days, etc. Nothing went as it should have, and it ruined the eight days we had left. We tried to contact them, but they didn't respond to phone calls or emails; this is typical for them. They left us stranded in another city and didn't bother in the slightest to find a solution. All they did was lie to us, deceive us, and ruin a vacation we had been wanting to take for years. DO NOT HIRE THIS AGENCY; IT'S DANGEROUS.

  The landscapes were amazing - both Erta Ale and Danakil. The tour itself was mixed. The communication from the main guide during the tour was rather poor so the program was often not clear. More proactive communication would be good. But our driver (Misganaw) was a real star. He was super friendly, very attentive, gave us good information, and supported to change our return flight from Semera to Mekele (much better). He made the tour a success. Best driver!

  Please NEVER contract anything with this company, leave your customers lying around. They lied to us after the Tour telling us that they had talked to our guide and had changed our flight to another airport, it was not true, they took us to Malakal because they were better served as the rest of the tourists doing the tour left there but we had the flight in Semera, we told them from the beginning and they lied to us leaving us lying without flight left and there was overbooking, we could not buy another flight, we had to call our guide in Spanish, magnificent, Yonas who spent two first class tickets to get us out of trouble the next day, we lost a day and the fear of not being able to return, without hotel, without flight and without guide, did not compensate me the tour for the bad time I spent at the airport. Special mention to Tarrico, a polite driver with little empathy who asked him several times if there was a problem with the flight when we began to suspect because of the questions he asked us, kept lying and telling us that there were no problems. If you don’t want to have a bad time of anguish, don’t hire them, there are several opinions just like ours, then you usually do.

  It was a great experience. It is a very attractive tour where you can feel the great outdoors. My goal was to see the active volcano at the mouth of the volcano, but the salt lake was also a great experience. Hiking and camping under the stars were all great times. The drivers, tour guides and cooks all supported us during the trip to make it a wonderful journey. There was some trouble with Ethiopian Airlines causing the plane to arrive significantly later, but everything was perfectly supported by ETT. I am especially grateful to tour planner Fre, who was kind enough to support me throughout the tour due to aircraft issues, driver Hermes, who supported me on my fun trip, and manager Bisrat, who took me out for dinner with care.

  Really well-organized and impressive tour! Can only recommend doing it. But be sure what standards to expect when travelling through the poorest region of Ethiopia.
