Begin your journey from Kigali’s bustling cityscape and gradually embrace the untamed beauty of Akagera National Park, with a refreshing stop at Nyandungu Eco-Park. This restored wetland provides a peaceful retreat, where well-maintained walking paths lead you through a lush environment teeming with life. Boasting over 100 bird species and a dedicated medicinal plant garden, the park stands as a testament to Rwanda’s dedication to conservation and sustainable urban greenery. This tranquil interlude offers a perfect transition from the rhythm of the city to the raw splendor of the wilderness, preparing you for the adventure ahead.
Umusambi Village
After exploring the serene landscapes of Nyandungu Eco-Park, we will continue our journey to Umusambi Village, a dedicated conservation sanctuary for Rwanda’s endangered grey crowned cranes. This restored wetland provides a safe haven for rescued cranes that can no longer survive in the wild, allowing visitors to observe these elegant birds up close while learning about the conservation efforts that protect them. As we take in the tranquil surroundings, we will enjoy lunch in this peaceful natural setting. The visit offers a unique opportunity to witness Rwanda’s commitment to wildlife preservation and sustainable ecotourism before we continue toward Akagera National Park.
Akagera National Park
Upon arriving at Akagera National Park, check in at Akagera Game Lodge, a comfortable base for exploring the park. Take some time to settle in and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. In the evening, we will take a boat safari on Lake Ihema, offering a chance to observe hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species as the sun sets over the water. This relaxed introduction to the park sets the stage for the days ahead.

Akagera National Park
On the second day, set out early for a game drive through the southern region of Akagera National Park. This area features a mix of rolling hills, lakes, and open savannah, providing a diverse habitat for wildlife. As you explore, you may encounter elephants, giraffes, buffalos, and various antelope species. Early morning is also a good time to spot predators such as lions and leopards. For bird watchers, the southern lakes offer excellent opportunities to observe a wide range of bird species in their natural environment.

Akagera National Park
On the third day, wake up to the peaceful surroundings of Karenge Bush Camp, where the sounds of the wild replace the usual city noise. This temporary, low-impact camp provides an authentic safari experience, with simple canvas tents that blend into the natural environment. As daylight breaks over the vast plains, the distant roars of lions and the gentle movement of nearby wildlife signal the start of another day in the wilderness. After breakfast, head out for a game drive in the northern part of Akagera, an open grassland area teeming with zebras, buffalo, and antelopes. This region is well known for its predator activity, increasing the likelihood of spotting lions and hyenas on the move. The landscape here shifts from the wetlands of the south to expansive savannahs, offering a classic African safari experience.

Volcanoes National Park
On Day 4, embark on an unforgettable gorilla trekking experience in Volcanoes National Park. Begin your day early at the park headquarters in Kinigi, where you'll be greeted with traditional dances and offered tea or coffee. After a briefing, park officials confirm your permits, and you’ll be grouped based on fitness levels and preferences. Accompanied by expert guides and rangers, the trek into the forest begins. The journey can last from one to several hours, depending on the location of the gorillas and the terrain. Porters are available to assist with carrying gear. Once the gorillas are located, you’ll have up to one hour to observe and photograph them. Gorilla trekking is a meaningful part of your journey, providing a chance to connect with Rwanda's wildlife conservation efforts.After the trek, you'll begin your journey back to Kigali, reflecting on the experiences and memories of your time in the wilderness.
