The golden monkey trekking tour in Volcanoes NP is one of the top adventures to do in Rwanda. The activity involves a relatively easy trek through the bamboo jungles in the lower zones of the Virunga Volcanoes to find and spend an hour with the striking Golden Monkeys. Afterwards head to misty Bwindi, which is home to more than half the population of the remaining 720. Bwindi offers a unique birding opportunity, cultural experiences, and the elusive primates.
Bwindi NP is most notable for being home of over 400 of the world’s gorillas, there is about 310 species of butterfly, 51 species of reptiles, and an exceptional 120 types of mammals including 10 primates. The latter includes chimps, L'Hoest's, red tailed and blue monkey, black and white colobus, baboon, and of course the famous residents - the mountain gorillas, Some relaxation at Lake Bunyonyi, Before crossing to Queen Elizabeth NP for a great game viewing experience.

You will be met by our driver guide in Kigali 05:am and we transfer to the park head offices in Kinigi by 7.00am. Join up with the other Golden Monkeys trekkers, meet the ranger guide for a few minutes talk about the activity and the park, and by 8.00am you transfer to the trail head just outside the park. Enjoy great views of the mountain scenery as you start your trek into the park to find the golden monkeys. The golden monkeys live near the edge of the park in the bamboo forests where the ground is relatively flat and easy to trek. Find the monkeys and follow them as they feed, notice how they skillfully pick the young bamboo leaves from the tip of the bamboo tree. They may also move out of the park into the potato fields and how they love the potatoes! After an amazing one hour with the golden monkeys you will return to the trail head drive back to the lodge for lunch and thereafter head to the border, after clearing we will proceed to Bwindi. Mabamba Swamp Shoebill Watching Entebbe
You will have an early morning breakfast and move to the Park headquarters to join other trackers in a briefing about the gorilla trekking rules at 7:45 am. You will trek through thick creepers and undergrowth with your guides to find the Gorillas, which can take you 1-8 hours. The steeply forested landscape is incredibly dense but crisscrossed by numerous animal trails allowing access by tourists. You will have one hour to stay with the Gorillas once sited and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi. The drive will be a beautiful part of the country often referred to as ‘the Switzerland of Africa’ because of its unique cool weather despite being near the Equator. This lake is said to be one of the most beautiful places in western Uganda. It is the second deepest lake in Africa [900 meters deep] and it is considered safe to swim as it is bilharzia free. You will take a boat ride on this lake and hike to different viewpoints before returning for Dinner and overnight stay.

Wake up early in the morning have your breakfast, set off for Queen Elizabeth through volcanic formation of the western Rift Valley towards Queen Elizabeth N.P. The descent reveals a stunning panorama of lakes George an Edward amidst game-filled plains where you will reach in the afternoon check in you’ Lodge have lunch and some rest for sun to go down, in the afternoon go the unique boat cruises that takes 2hrs on the Kazinga channel and onto Lake Edward. The trip passes through possibly the highest hippo concentration in Africa and many mammals may be seen drinking water. The cruise offers the excellent platform for photography and game viewing. The birdlife is colorful and abundant, In the evening go for a game drive with a chance to see Elephants Lions Buffaloes etc later return for dinner and overnight stay

Kalinzu Central Forest Reserve
Wake-up early morning have breakfast and head to Kalinzu Forest Reserve for an up to 4 hours chimpanzee trekking with a tracker and guide. The Forest Reserve is home to 6 groups of chimps, comprising over 300. Please bring suitable closed walking boots and long trousers! Afterwards transfer to Kigali Airport with lunch en-routes to catch your evening departure flight back home.

5.00I would highly recommend booking your next trip to Rwanda and Uganda with Frena Adventures! A friend recommended them also to me and did not disappoint. From the beginning everything was well explained before going on our trip. We discussed a lot of things with Fred, and he answered all of our questions. The moment we landed in Kigali, we were picked up by our wonderful guide, Ronald. We landed at 4AM, and normally, the tour starts at 6AM, but Ronald was really supportive and understanding and came to pick us up earlier than planned. We did the golden monkey tour in Volcanoes National Park, a gorilla trekking tour in Bwindi, Lake Bunyonyi, a short cruise on Kazinga Channel and also a short safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park. All of the accommodations were really nice and the people were polite and helpful. We were amazed by the 2 countries and we couldn't have chosen a better company for this trip. Ronald exceeded our expectations with all the knowledge, happy spirit, and different discussions during our meals together. We had a minor problem with entering Uganda, because at the border we didn't receive the online visa that we applied to. Ronald stepped in and talked to the police officer at customs and helped us with the visa. Also the policeman was really understanding and helpful. There was a system problem and because of the Christmas holiday our visa was delayed. But all worked out good in the end. We surely made a new friend in Ronald and the only sad thing for us was not having more time to discover more of Rwanda and Uganda. We will surely come back and use Frena Adventures again! A big thank you for both Fred and Ronald! Keep up the good job!

5.006 days tailor-made solo, in Uganda, with a local agency, top. Ronnie my Guide is great, he comments every step of the journey, culture, wildlife, vegetation. I started with the Bwindi gorillas, an unforgettable experience, finding myself among a family of 14 gorillas, with three males with grey backs, females and bcp young gorillas. The lodge had a great view, and very comfortable, in the middle of nature. We left for Queen Victoria National Park, and I took in the sights, beautiful and authentic landscapes. In the park which has no barriers, animals go freely, they are easy to approach because they do not consider humans as predators. Elephants are kings, buffaloes, antelope, warthogs. I had the chance to see animals including lions and leopards early, Ronnie knows leopard habits well, and detecting it in cactus trees was not easy. The vegetation in early October, rainy season is beautiful. The lodge was still top, right in front of the Kazinga Canal, overlooking hippos and elephants. First safari boat, I don't regret, top. My trip ends with the Chimpanzees of the Kibale rainforest, different from the Bwindi forest, but just as fabulous. I recommend this country, the pearl of Africa, Frena Adventures, and Ronnie.

5.00Ronald was our driver and he was terrific. Always on time a d courteous. He was a great laugh as well and made the tour that much better. We saw loads of gorilla's and golden monkeys and elephants and hippos. We also saw 4 lions. Great value. Everything was perfect.

5.00We did the gorilla trek in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda leaving from Kigali in Rwanda. Ronald was our guide for the 4 days and did an amazing job. He was personable and professional the entire time. The main purpose of our trip was the gorilla trek but we also did a number of other activities like the Golden Monkeys. All of them were unique and a great experience. The gorillas were absolutely breath taking and this experience, although quite expensive, was completely worth it. We got much closer to them than I would have thought too. Like 4 feet away at most at times. Our accommodations during the trip were all high quality as well which was a nice change from a previous safari we were on. All in all this was a great trip and Ronald made it even better by being accommodating to us when needed and sharing great information throughout the trip!

5.00We took a 6 person private tour with Frena through Rwanda and Uganda. Our itinerary started with the Golden Monkeys in Rwanda before doing a Gorilla and Chimpanzee trek in Uganda. We also had a boat ride on Lake Bunyonyi and the Kazinga Channel and a game drive in Queen Elizabeth NP. We had a fantastic time on the tour, the Gorilla and Chimpanzee treks were the highlights. We'd also highly recommend our guide (Ronald) who was excellent at making sure the trip ran smoothly, providing us with information throughout the journey and answering our many question in depth. One area for improvement would be with the Frena head office. While our experience was still smooth some of their communications could have contained more detailed / organised. We'd still highly recommend both Ronald and Frena Adventures.

5.00Tour to Rwanda and Uganda with Frena was amazing. It was organised perfect. Everything was on time and according to plan. Our guide and driver Dismas was great. When we needed he was very professional, and also he was great companion - very friendly, positive, and full of knowledge. Highly recommend tour with Frena and Dismas. And to compare. After 4 days tour in Uganda we had 4 days Safari in Tanzania. In Tanzania was very bad - they just want to earn a lot of money and not trying at all. So if you thinking about tour and Safari in Africa - go to Uganda - the country is beautiful, people very frendly, and tour company like Frena and guides like Dismas just great and perfect. They try hard to make your tour amazing.
