Upon your arrival at Jinka Airport, our team will warmly welcome you and pick you up in a comfortable 4WD vehicle equipped with modern air conditioning and charging facilities. From here, we begin our journey south to Turmi, the heartland of the Hamar people.
Key Afer
On the way to Turmi, we’ll have the opportunity to meet members of the Banna and Hamar tribes along the roadside, offering early insight into the diverse cultures of the Omo Valley. If your travel falls on a Thursday, we’ll stop at Key Afer Market—the largest and most vibrant in the region. This colorful gathering brings together three major tribes, including the Bena, for trading, socializing, and storytelling. Be sure to check out the shaded café area under the trees, where locals gather to relax and chat.
If your visit falls on a Tuesday, make sure to stop at the vibrant Alduba Market. Larger than the markets in Turmi or Dimeka, Alduba attracts a lively crowd from several surrounding tribes who gather to trade goods, share news, and socialize. One of the market’s highlights is the informal café area beneath the trees at the back—an authentic social hub where locals sit, drink, and chat in the shade. It’s an ideal place to observe the everyday rhythm of life in the Omo Valley.
Depending on the day, you may also experience the Dimeka Market (held on Saturday and Tuesday), one of the best places to see the Hamar people in action. Located about 30 km north of Turmi, this market includes a lively area for souvenirs and tribal crafts.
Turmi
In the afternoon, we’ll visit a traditional Hamar village, spending time with one of the largest and most welcoming communities in the region. If the timing is right and the season allows, you may also witness the extraordinary Hamar bull-jumping ceremony—a rare and powerful rite of passage that occurs with little advance notice. We will spend the next two nights in Turmi, using it as a base to explore surrounding tribal areas. Upcoming highlights include visits to the Dassanech and Nyangatom (Bume) communities—both rich in tradition and cultural depth.
Overnight in Turmi, Paradise Lodge.

Their villages offer a rare glimpse into one of the Omo Valley’s least-visited cultures. Continue to Korcho, the most scenic Karo village perched on a bluff overlooking the Omo River. The Karo are masters of decorative body painting using white chalk, ash, and natural pigments—an art form tied to ceremony, identity, and beauty. Take time to explore the village, meet local families, and enjoy panoramic views before returning to Turmi.

The tour with Rashid was completely perfect! He knows so much about the tribes, has answered all our questions and has always made sure we feel comfortable. He adapted the trip to our personal wishes. You can look forward to a special tour and experience that is different from the normal standard mass tours! The planning was perfect and also the communication before was top! The food was super delicious and the accommodations clean. We would heartily recommend everyone to do the Omo Valley Tour with Rashid. You can tell with how much heart he's in. He's so warm. We felt extremely comfortable at home. He also makes tours to other places of interest in Ethiopia such as La Libela, Danakil Depression etc. We would travel with him to Ethiopia at any time. Thanks for everything! It couldn't have been better!

Visiting the Omo valley is a unique experience. Bereket and his team looked after us well and delivered on everything in the itinerary and we were lucky to attend a Bull Jumping Ceremony too. Bereket went above and beyond when our flight back from Jinka was delayed. I hope Bereket and other guides from this region will continue to work closely with the communities they bring visitors to and develop the tourism model in the Omo valley. There are also wonderful natural things to enjoy - such as the stars, mountains, rivers and bird life - that could make this trip even more varied and interesting.

A truly unforgettable trip to the Omo Valley! Our guide, Diego, was fantastic — he made sure we understood the culture and traditions of each tribe we visited (Hamar, Nyangatom, Karo, Dassanech, Ari, and Mursi). Camping with the Hamar tribe was a nice experience, perfectly organised by Bereket. The stay at Paradise Lodge in Turmi was the best — comfortable, very clean, and atmospheric —and meals throughout were well planned. A trip and a tour operator I highly recommend!

I have been to the southern part of Ethiopia last January guided by Becky of Omo Valley Tour and it was an incredible experience. I got deeper in the tribal culture visiting almost 10 different sites. Thanks to the fluent english that he speaks we had also a very funny time talking all the time about the country itself and about our lives in different nations, comparing them. I learnt so much about Ethiopia and I feel blessed to have him as a guide. So prepared. Last thing: I felt safe all the time and he and the driver were always available to help me in case of need. 100% recomended!!

In Ethiopia I spent two fantastic weeks with the crew of Bereket Tadasse. The first week was trekking in the national park of the Bale Mountains. Endless horizons, beautiful views, swimming in mountain lakes, wild nature, excellent organization of the expedition, delicious food, smiles, readiness to help in any situation made our whole group reach the highest peak of the Bale Mountains - Tulu Dimtu. The following days are a magical journey through the tropical forest to reach the tribes of the Omo River Valley. On Women's Day on March 8, in the middle of the jungle, we were surprised by a delicious cake conjured up by the crew of Bereket Tadasse. Unforgettable moments❤️. The days I spent among the tribes of the Omo River Valley will forever remain in my memory. Various customs, clothes, decorations, types of hairstyles characteristic of each of them make this world extremely interesting. It was my second trip to Ethiopia with Bereket. During the first one, I climbed the highest peak of Ethiopia, Ras Dashen, I visited the churches of Lalibela, the Danakil Depression, Dalol, Erta Ale, the city of Harer and many other wonderful places Both trips are the adventures of a lifetime - fantastic, full of excitement, good music and constant care of Bereket. Everything was well organized, carried out on time and according to plan. I recommend it with all my heart. Beata

Be honest I don't like organized trips, I like to have control over my day, but the guide made our travel unforgettable and i dont regret anything! He not only showed us the must-see highlights but also shared incredibly useful tips. He took great care of us! What really set this experience apart was the personal touch. Instead of the typical tourist path, he gave us a unique window into the lives of the local tribes, making the experience feel deeply authentic and meaningful. During the day we also laught and dance with the locals - a pure celebration of joy and culture. A real highlight was visiting his family home, where we savored some of the best traditional Ethiopian dishes we’ve ever had. We felt like one big family there. If you’re heading to the Omo Valley, don’t miss the chance to explore it with him. Highly recommended!

We didn't research or plan much ahead when traveling through Ethiopia. We organised everything when we got there. For us the best thing to do... because you meet with really local guides and tour operators from the places we wanted to visit (from outside the country most tours are organized through Addis-based companies). Bereket was recommended by another small business owner in Jinka. He speaks excellent English and grew up in the town, thus knows or is friends with many people from the Tribes living in the Omo Valley. He quickly organized for us a personalized itinerary and we managed to see Mursi, Hamer, Banna, Dassanech, Kara and of course Ari tribes as well as visiting one of the colorful markets. We were even as lucky as as to assist a bull-jumping ceremony near Turmi. What makes his tours the best is that every place we went with him in the region, we met with a local who then accompanied us and showed us around their tribe and village to tell their peoples story. It doesn't get more insightful than that! We truly felt that Bereket and his team and friends managed to help us immerse ourselves in the beautiful and colorful yet minimalistic and simple life of the locals, and see life in an angle we never saw before. I am so grateful for the time spent in Jinka and the memories we created!
