In one day you will visit three churches; Abuna Yemata Guh; Maryam Korkor and Daniel Korkor. All of which are very different in style but stunningly beautiful in their own way. To visit Abuna Yemata Guh, walking for about an hour to commence a steep ascent up the side of the Gheralta massif. This steep ascent soon turn into a climb using foot holds and hand holds chipped into the sandstone rock by the passage of many hands and feet. The climb and the walk along very narrow ledges with sheer drops to the side is not one for the faint hearted. The church itself can be reached by walking out on a ledge one meter wide and with a 200m drop to the left hand side. At the entrance there is a small cave and a wooden door built into the rock. Of the three, Maryam Korkor is the most impressive architecturally. A huge, high ceiling is supported by 12 free standing pillars. We start our day by driving to Erta Ale (which means smoky mountain in Afar language). Erta Ale ranks one of the most alluring and physically challenging natural attractions anywhere in Ethiopia. It is a shield volcano with a base diameter of 30 km and 1km square caldera at its summit. Erta Ale contains the world’s only permanent lava lake. It is 613 meters, with a lava lake, one of only five in the world, at the summit. It is notable for being the longest existing lava lake, present since the early years of the twentieth century. (may not be as active as before and activity at flank eruption slows down.) We start early 9:00 AM, drive to Dodom (at the base of Erta Ale). This is may be one of the roughest roads in the world. The 80 km distance may take about 6 hrs passing through changing the landscape of solidified lava, rock, sand and occasional palm-lined oasis. After passing several small hamlets scattered here and there in this deserted land, you will arrive at Dodom camping site, located about 17km from Erta Ale. Dinner will be served around 17:00 o’clock. After a short break, 30 minutes trek up to Ertale. Camels will be transporting all the camping materials and some food (sleeping materials like light mattresses and mat and water) to the rim of the volcano, where we spend the night watching the dramatic action of the boiling lava. You will spend the night on top of the mountain, at the rim of the Volcano.

Early Morning sun rise at the northern one corresponds to the main pit crater and walk 5 minutes for the southern and central pits could either corresponds to an ancient pit, or to a simple collapse structure. The main pit-crater, 200 m deep and 350 m across, is sub-circular and three-storied. The smaller southern pit is 65 m wide and about 100 m deep. Descend from Erta Ale around 9 am Dodom – Leave back to Dodom after an early breakfast, if possible at 07:00 o’clock. You will reach the latest at 10:30 o’clock at the camp, where you will be relaxing. As soon as possible, drive to reach the mythical Lake Giulietti (or Lake Afrera)(optional may not be available during summertime), a saltwater lake located more than100 meters below sea level, in one of the deepest depressions of the planet. Because of the picturesque landscape, it is interesting to visit the salt flats where the Afar people obtain the salt by evaporating the water of the lake., continue to Erbiti and proceed Abaala/ Hamed Ela

Morning tour Drive to Ragad (Asebo), the place where the localities are mining salt. Look the activity of workers breaking salts from the ground, cutting in to rectangular pieces and loading on camels. You drive ahead to Dallol and visit the difference landscape formed by volcanic activity, Dallol + Lake Assal + camel caravans. Excursion to Dallol (116 meters below sea level, one of the lowest places in the world) colorful salts mining, visit Lake Assal, follow up camel caravans (No camel caravan on July, August, and early September) and walk with the Afar people. Drive back to Hamedela and proceed to Mekele. End of Danakil tour.

5.00It was an unplanned last minute visit, the prompt reply of Arre tour to some queries make me take a decision to take the tour and it was fabulous, Solomon and his team make sure that I feel safe and cared. The whole team was friendly and careful, Solomon, Arre, Addis, Aman, Semere , Fkre and other members were amazing. The Danakil depression was like in another space, Mother Earth is so active over there, seems to be on constant changes, new rocks, hot salt-sulfúric-water, fuming volcanoes. The juxtaposition between an unforgiving territory and unique beauty perplex the mind. Ascending to the rock churches transcend me to the time and space where worshiping seems so pure and rejuvenating. It was a much needed respite and Arre team make it happened , big thinks to the team and am looking forward to the next adventure.

5.00I booked with Arre Tours and Travel in mid September for a 7 day long tour. We started in Axum and went through climbing Abune Yemata Guh and spent a few days in the Danakil Depression hiking. The company is owned by two very diligent brothers, Arre and Solomon. Their whole team spent lots of extra care with me, making sure I was taken care of, since I have bad knees and Asthma. The service is 5 star. I have never had a tour company be so gentle and take so much extra attention for me! I would hands down recommend this company and would choose them again if I were to return to the area. I watched many other guides and when I compared, I think the small family experience and choice of guides (Arre and Mesele were amazing) definitely meant they were paying attention to their clients. I’d like to point out out that I am vegetarian and wanted to try lots of local coffee and traditional veggie Ethio food, and they made all of this happen. I’ve never been happier! I hope everyone gets a chance to have a tour with them ✨✨✨

5.00We had an absolutely incredible time in Ethiopia with Arre! We spent three amazing days in the Danakil Depression, two days trekking to the Tigray churches (highly recommend!), and one day in Axum. Since we had a bit more time available than the four days in the description, Arre was able to adjust the itinerary, allowing us to make the most of our trip. Every part of the journey was well-planned and perfectly organized. We always felt safe, comfortable, and completely taken care of. Arre was fantastic—super friendly and always making sure we had the best experience. Our drivers were excellent as well! If you're thinking about visiting Ethiopia, we highly recommend booking with him. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime adventure!

5.00We booked this trip through a friend of ours and were very impressed because of the experience based on the recommendation afterwards. We had a wonderful tour and came back with many lasting impressions of the Afar region. The tour guide Tesfa was incredibly helpful and was very happy to share his extensive knowledge of nature and the Afari with us. The drivers were also all very pleasant and experienced professionals. Changing a tyre for a Jeep at 40°C in 8min was very impressive. We were accompanied by a chef who had already prepared a wonderful breakfast in the salt deserts of the Dallol Depression at 5.00am, which we enjoyed at sunrise in a surreal landscape. Also the lunch and dinner was very tasty. Water was as much as you needed. At no time was anything offered to us at extra cost. Even beer or wine in the evening at the camp in the evening was charged extra. The cost of the tour really includes everything. The whole process of the beautifully planned tour was very impressive and professional. We are very happy that we were able to be there. There were many stations where photography was stopped to allow the breathtaking scenery to take effect. The relationship between price and experience is really top. 5.00Amazing, at times mind blowing experience. The night time hike at the volcano was the highlight for me. I’ve never felt so in touch with being alive on this planet. The trip was super well organized. Food (vegetarian) was superb and impressively prepared on-site with little means. We felt safe throughout the trip and the guides and drivers were the best. We had a blast.

Arre was very professional and helpful during whole our trip and definitely exceeded our expectations. We felt really safe all the time and he was always there for us.
