Cape Jervis
Our journey commences at Cape Jervis, starting point of the iconic Heysen Trail, one of the world’s great walking trails and at 1200km the longest dedicated track in Australia. An easy introduction along a gently undulating shoreline leads to Fisheries Beach and a series of coves tucked away along the trail. Winter streams run their course out to the Southern Ocean which will be our companion for most of the way. Elevated vantage points offer majestic views over Backstairs Passage, a narrow shipping lane between the mainland and Kangaroo Island that is known for its challenging currents. We slowly work our way towards Deep Creek National Park where the landscape transforms from open grass lands into dense sclerophyll forests. A highlight is the descent on to Blow Hole Beach with its sparkling waters. From here we climb to Cobbler Hill for a short transfer to our accommodation in Deep Creek where pre-dinner drinks await.

Deep Creek Conservation Park
After a hearty breakfast we pick up the trail from Cobbler Hill and make our way across Aaron Creek and Tent Rock Creek to the main water course after which the Park was named. As the trail meanders from open woodlands to thick bushland with ancient grass trees and wildflowers the majesty of nature soon dawns. Yes, the many hues of native flora provide a rich palette of colours in this unspoiled landscape. The sheltered gully of Deep Creek leads us to the year-round waterfall where we stop for lunch. The soothing sound of upstream waters cascading over ancient rock formations is a tonic to the soul. After taking in our share of this elixir we gradually climb up to Tapanappa Ridge where a welcoming committee of Western Grey Kangaroos will oblige for cameras against a panoramic backdrop of the Southern Ocean.

Deep Creek Conservation Park
The starting point for today begins with 180° views from Tapanappa Ridge towards the edge of the horizon. As you cast your eye across this open expanse the thought occurs that there is nothing but open water between here and Antarctica. Fill your lungs with the fresh air rolling in from the Southern Ocean. It’s among the cleanest you’ll find anywhere on earth. The panoramic views of the Pages Islands and Kangaroo Island are exchanged for a sheltered path that meanders through Pink Gum forests. Suddenly, the roar of the ocean is a distant memory and finches dart across our path. As we make our way towards Boat Harbour the vegetation opens once more to reveal a secluded cove where dolphins are a common sight. Here, we leave Deep Creek Conservation Park as the Heysen Trail takes us to Tunkalilla Beach, a remote and very scenic wilderness of sand and surf.

On the fourth day guests will receive morning tea, lunch, tea, coffee and water
The final leg of our journey introduces us to the striking cliff face of Newland Conservation Park. Our day begins with a commanding view of Parsons Beach from where we follow the shoreline to Waitpinga Beach. This secluded wilderness presents the last chance to take off those boots and feel the sand beneath your feet as ocean waves crash just metres away. Walk along the expansive stretch of beach and experience the magic of the sea’s invigorating powers. A short climb leads to the Newland Cliffs where photo opportunities abound. Keep an eye out for white-bellied sea eagles that breed along this stretch of coast. The trail gradually descends all the while hugging the coastline as we reach King Beach just outside Victor Harbor.

Thank you for a wonderful 4 days in your beautiful part of Australia. The walk was breath taking, challenging and lots of fun. The evenings were filled with great meals prepared with local ingredients, wines and interesting conversations explaining not only the preparation of the meals but the interactions within the communities in the area. The accommodation was very comfortable, warm and friendly - the mob of local kangaroos added to the experience. I so enjoyed my visit and my walk. Thank you Jane, Barry, Jen, TJ and Fraser - I had a great time.

SOUTHERN OCEAN WALK If you crave stunning coastal scenery, gourmet dining nightly, homely comforts and leadership from an immensely knowledgeable guide this four day hike along SA’s scenic Fleurieu Peninsula has it all. Creek crossings, mountain tracks, beach walks, waterfalls, dolphins frolicking in the surf! The food and accommodation was top of the range, our four course meals a nightly highlight. To come home to a blazing fire and a glass of bubbly after a full day’s hike was a real treat. There’s quite a bit of hill climbing and steep descents so you do need a good level of fitness, but I found a ready helping hand for those tough sections. Our guide Barry’s deep knowledge of the local flora, fauna and terrain enhanced our walks. And Jane’s lovingly packed lunches included a personalised Thermos of hot drinks; of such good quality I went online and ordered one for myself! Tough but doable even in your seventies, as long as you push yourself beyond your usual limits. I’ll never forget my euphoria after finishing a particularly gruelling stretch: Kangaroo Island always in our sights and the roar of the southern ocean way below. One of life’s great experiences. But better get training! Angela, Victoria.

This walking trip was a fantastic experience in all areas- the walking, the scenery and the variety of natural landscapes. Open rolling grassland hills, sclerophyll forest, open woodlands, thick bush lands with ancient grass trees, sea cliffs, beaches, creek gulleys and mallee bush….this walk has it all. Each day finishing with a highlight! The hospitality provided by Jane and Barry was excellent. Homestead was warm and cosy and the meals with matched wines were superb. Truly a wonderful experience.

This hike challenged me physically and mentally but it also gave me some of the most stunning scenery and memorable moments I have ever experienced. Highly recommended for anyone looking to push themselves and be deeply rewarded for it. What truly elevated the experience though were the meals. A wholesome packed lunch on the trail then a thoughtfully prepared evening meal made from locally sourced produce and wines to match. Thank you Barry and Jane. You were the perfect hosts.

I thoroughly enjoyed this four day luxury guided walk on the Fleurieu Peninsula. It is the coastal section of the famous Heysen Trail. The views and the coastal environment were stunning. Each afternoon we returned to the comfortable and welcoming lodge. The delicious meals incorporated bush flavours and locally sourced produce. The pre-dinner canapés were exceptional. I highly recommend this walk.

From the Adelaide shuttle pick-up through accommodation, the four walks, the food - everything worked so well as you were enfolded into a family atmosphere. All involved with this tour/hike love and respect where they live and are keen to share it with others in the friendliest way possible. Arriving the day before the hike commenced, I opted to stay at an eco cabin in Deep Creek Conservation Park. So glad I did. Set in bushland with options for walks on the doorstep. Meet and greet at the Homestead that will be our base for three nights. Homestead is very comfortable. Beds are comfy, hot showers are very welcome after each day's hike and food is excellent and plentiful. It is the only walk I have done where I only lost ½kg!!! Food is very locally sourced and so good that the hike could easily have become a foodie experience rather than hiking. The walk covers four sections of the Heysen Trail - Stunning coastal scenery, unspoiled natural bushland, lots of stops for rests and information by host Barry. The walks have some very steep, challenging sections so be prepared and do some training. I loved the whole experience. Fabulous walk along unspoiled Australian coastline but more fabulous are the people involved. The people - Jane, Barry, chef TJ, geologist Fraser and partner Lorraine. Their passion and inclusion all make for a truly wonderful four days.
