Humantay Lake Peru
We start with the pickup from your hotel at 5am, this will be a ride of two hours approximately until we arrive to Mollepata community, after breakfast we continue on transportation to Challacancha where is the started point of the hike. Here we need to check our luggage, pack the horses, and begin the long ascent to our campsite. Three hours and a half approximately to arrive at our campsite, on the way you will hike the original Inca trail Canal. After this we will arrive to our campsite, you will get the accommodation and we will wait for the lunch to recover energy after lunch, you will have some free time until we will start our hike up to Humantay Lake, this will take two hours to hike up and one hour on the way back approximately. It is quite cold as you can imagine but the view is unique and worthy. Back to our campsite, you can change your clothes and then you will enjoy a delicious dinner. After dinner, our tour guide will brief the itinerary for the next day.

We will begin this day by climbing for three hours to the Salkantay pass (4.460m). After a brief break and picture-taking session we will begin a long descent to wayracmachay. After lunch we will descent and be able to literally see the changes in vegetation as we go from high mountain areas down to tropical jungle with its dense forest. We will camp in Chaullay.

After a challenging day, we will wake up early in the morning to have a delicious breakfast. This day will be for relaxing, the trail is beautiful and the vegetation is very dense and we will see a variety of orchids and impressive waterfalls approximately 80 meters high. We will hike all the way down through the Santa Teresa Valley to Lucmabamba where we will have lunch and board the transportation to Hifroelectrica. In the afternoon, we continue walking towards Aguas Calientes for 2 hours (12 kilometers) where we will spend the night in a proper hotel. The dinner is not Included and your tour guide will give you the important information for the next day. The main reason for this program is Machupicchu.

We wake up early in the morning (depending on the time of our admission). Some of you will want to hike to the entrance to Machupicchu which can take one hour and a half some of You will want to take the first bus (5:30am) from Aguas Calientes to the Machupicchu Citadel, usually 30 minutes by bus. Our guide will thoroughly guide you through the Machupicchu archeological site for about 2 hours, then time to come back to Aguas Calientes town where You can get lunch (not included in the program) and in the afternoon we will take the train to Ollantaytambo, you need to be at the Aguas Calientes train station 30mn in advance. A representative of our company will meet you at the train station in Ollantaytambo town then We will take You back to Cusco in proper tourist transportation. We will leave you at your hotel.

5.00Our guide with Crossover Peru, Yaritza, was absolutely phenomenal. She singlehandedly made it an incredible experience. She was everything we needed---knowledgeable, organized, inspirational, motivational, informative, helpful, a great leader, AND FUN! She was an expert on the history and cultural ways of the area, and also on hiking and climbing techniques for success. She did everything possible to ensure we had a memorable trip, including knowing where to take all the best pictures with incredible views. Her scheduling of things was perfect, ensuring we beat the crowds wherever possible and minimized waiting. She kept us learning, moving, thinking and laughing. Best Guide Ever!! 5.00This was the second time I’ve used 57hours to book an adventure for my adult daughter and I and they continue to excel in partnering with phenomenal local guide groups like Crossover Peru who managed our visit exploring Incan history culminating in Machu Picchu. These organizations are exceptional in understanding what an adventure vacation means and immersing you into the local culture to truly get to experience the history not just admire it. Our Guide Luz Salas was so amazing! She knew so much about her country, its history, local customs and rituals…she seemed truly spiritually connected to the land and her country. Our meals were phenomenal, Modesto is an amazing chef, prepared breakfast,lunch, dinner and even a cake for us on the last night! All the food was fresh, locally derived and so so good! Damian was our horseman and protected and transported our gear, helped out Modesto and Luz as needed and was amazingly attentive to our needs. They all were so professional, engaging, and made my daughter and I feel so at home. The Salkantay trek was the most difficult but rewarding experiences of my adult adventure life. So much history learned. The ability to experience a country and its culture first hand across multiple different climates, sometimes all in one day, is truly unique. I think one day we started at 12.5k ft, ascended to 14.1k ft, then descended to under 10k. All in one day. Incredible. Saw and trekked through Rain forest/ cloud forest/ dry region and even saw parts of the highlands. Very highly recommend if you’re physically capable. If you’re considering it, book it! And if you’re lucky enough to get Luz, Modesto, and Damian, it’ll be the adventure of your life!

5.00Peru trip to Salkantay Trail, Rainbow Mountain and Machu Picchu with Yaritza our guide, Modesto our very excellent cook and Moises our great horseman. We had a very memorable trip on this Crossover Peru team. They took excellent care of us. My niece was not feeling well and Yaritza made sure she was taken care of in a very kind and thoughtful way. Modesto provided nutritious and delicious meals with a style. Although we were out at a camp, out of the camp kitchen came platers of food that looked great and tasted delicious! It made me smile to see Modesto in the camp kitchen with his chef’s hat and shirt! We felt spoiled when we were woken up in camp with a cup of coca team brought to our camp dome! Moises brought our duffels to the camp domes and picked them up in the morning to include packing up the sleeping bags for us. Yaritza, Modesto and Moises acted as a team to take care of us! 😊What a great trip!

5.00The Salkantay trek was challenging and magical. Yartiza and Soraida our guides were so kind and knowledgeable, gently urging us on during the hardest parts of the hike. The Crossover Peru team took amazing care of us. Our Chef’s prepared delicious and healthy but hearty meals that I still dream about. I learned so much about Peruvian culture and the Quechua people of Peru. Don’t think twice, sign up for this wonderful adventure, you will be so happy that you did!

5.00The four-day Salkantay Trek is intense--and worth every minute! Our guide, Yaritza, made the trip even more meaningful. She not only helped us to safely navigate rugged territory and high altitude, but she also shared cultural traditions, history and language with us. Her passion for the community and Peru's history is clear; as is the joy she takes (and gives!) in her role as a guide. I also can't mention the trek without mentioning our Chef, Orlando. Amazing food all along the way. We enjoyed delicious Peruvian meals, thoughtfully prepared, three times a day. This is a hiking adventure and cultural experience not to be missed! Start training now and get yourself to Peru for a Crossover Peru tour (I did the all-women's Salkantay four-day trek) as soon as you can! You will not regret it!

5.00This was the adventure of a lifetime. I wholeheartedly reccomend doing this trek with Crossover Peru. Our guide, Yaritza, truly made this experience something I'll forever treasure. Yaritza led our 10 person, all women, group with enthusiasm, compassion, and true love for the mountains and her Quechua culture. All 10 of us made it through the Salkantay Pass with Yaritza's guidance, encouragement, and humor. Every day was a new adventure that we enjoyed. The food and our chefs were an unexpected gift to this journey. The horsemen and driver that joined us for part of the trip were also an absolute delight. If you need a nudge to do this, consider this your push. I 100%, wholeheartedly reccomend doing this trek with Yaritza as your guide.

5.00Words cannot express the amazing experience we had with our trip to Salkantay booked with Crossover Peru/57 hours for myself and my adult daughter. I knew it would be challenging but wasn’t prepared for how difficult multi day hiking at altitude would be. With our guide Yaritza and my daughter’s support, I made it up and over Salkantay Pass! It is a feeling I will never forget. Yaritza is a fantastic guide, with so much knowledge and passion about her home city of Cusco and Peruvian culture. Our chef Modesto kept us well nourished and I still can’t believe the amazing food we ate on the trail. Damian, our horseman, transported our gear to each camp and helped Modesto with meals. Everyone on the team was so supportive and kind, and really helped us experience Peru like a local. Being able to share this journey with my daughter made it a trip I will never forget. Thank you to the wonderful team at Crossover Peru and 57 hours. I highly recommend!
