  I wrote a previous review months ago reporting that Peter didn't refund my money and Peter replied saying that my refund was scheduled to be processed on that week (refund that was already late) and also left an "explanation" here. The refund wasn't done on that week and I had to contact him again. I will try to summarize what has happened since my first review on 14/10, almost 3 months ago : He said that he was looking for a better way to handle my refund. He sent me a manually filled in form from his bank as proof of payment and then I was not allowed to send him emails anymore (yes, my emails were rejected and I had to use the online marketplace platform where I found Big Apes as an intermediary to communicate with him to ask for updates). Peter filled in the form incorrectly. I received the information from online marketplace platform representative that the funds returned back to his account (they had to contact his bank). I was allowed to send him emails again. I sent him another account as another option. He wanted me to fill in the form from his bank and refused to do it again correctly and said my information was distorted in different threads (??????? I confirmed with my bank and the information I sent was correct; the second option I sent was a screenshot from my bank's app, so no risk of being distorted; so ?????). I sent him a third option, a link requesting the payment. He hasn't sent the money using the link. Few weeks later, not a sign of him. Then, Peter wanted to transfer the money using Western Union. One week later, no contact from Peter at all. Then he said the money was at Western Union, that he sent the document previously, but he didn't and that I would have to withdraw my money. After all, I still had to find a Western Union to withdraw my money. This was the better way he handled my refund.  So, after my trip being ruined ... and after waiting longer than the offered cancellation policy time (I asked for the cancellation on 10/04, the offered cancellation policy time was waiting 4 months and receive the full amount; I received the document with the information needed to withdraw my money on 20/12, more than 8 months after the cancellation date) .... and a lot of headaches asking, asking, asking .... and asking the online marketplace platform representative for help (I don't know what would have happened if I hadn't have them intermediating. I strongly believe that I wouldn't have received my money back) ... my money was refunded. LATE. Facts and figures : 1) The full amount to be refunded was USD 1,079.24 2) The amount in the manually filled in form from the first attempt sent to me by Peter as proof of payment was USD 1,003.00 3) When questioned, Peter said that the difference (USD 76.24) was bank charges. No proof of payment for this bank charge. 4) The amount I've received from the second attempt was USD 920.00. I didn't understand his intention with that, but Peter forwarded me the exchange of messages between him and the online marketplace platform representative, including the name of another client who was also waiting for a solution to her "case study". I wasn't the only one. He also says on the email that some guests are hard to please. After being rude, he failed to keep his word and refund my money within the promised timeframe. Are the guests hard to please ??? This is the customer service provided by Peter, think about if you have an issue during your trip. As Peter himself said in one of his emails, let's move on to a better future without more hurt feelings. I think he meant my feelings and my bank account feelings. I lost money and time. DON'T TRUST PETER !!!!!! The End !

• Our tour blew all expectations!

  We couldn’t have asked for a better experience organised by Big Apes Africa, and guided by Jackson. The communication was easy going from the planning phase, to our arrival in Entebbe. Jackson was always punctual and he was ready to collect us before the planned time, in our private 4x4 He was an excellent driver, navigating the crazy roads efficiently, and was happy to help with any extra requests we had along the way. He speaks great English and has a super sense of humour, I recommend you request Jackson if you plan to book a tour! All of the accommodation was beyond what we had expected, the photos in the itinerary didn’t do it justice! The service level, cleanliness and food quality was extremely enjoyable. The only downside was often there was no WiFi - but we were more than happy to disconnect from the outside world for some time! The excursions arranged blew expectations and have given us lifelong memories. We would recommend Uganda, and this tour to absolutely everyone. • DON'T TRUST BIG APES, NEITHER PETER

  I've contacted Big Apes in March to book a trip for August. When I was still asking for quotes, the communication was polite and efficient. However, just after I've paid the deposit, the communication changed to rude and unreliable. After  the payment, I've checked with the accommodations and they haven't received any request on my name. So then I've asked Big Apes if my hotel reservations were made and if they could send me the receipt for the trekking permit. After being ignored and asking again and again, I've received the following answer from Peter, the agency's owner : "We don't account to our guests but our auditors unless you are conducting an investigation. You paid for a service because you were convinced that we would offer you the service. We procure permits in company names and not one at a time only but sometimes in bulk, information we cannot share with you. You are free to sue us when your time comes and we don't offer the service. Should you have a change of heart, we are happy to offer you a refund under our cancellation times. The only receipt you are entitled to is the one in our company names for the money you sent. Kindly let me know if this is clear to you." At this moment I had my first shiver down my spine. Don't they account to their guests ???? I've paid for a private tour and I had to wait for them to make the reservations in a bulk ???? Anyway, when I asked about cancellation, I've received an email with apologies (not from Peter, from someone else, never from Peter) for the harsh way of communication from their colleague and they said my tour were secured with them and that their drivers/guides were very professional (I thought the owner would be too, but I was wrong). I decided to give them another chance. After few weeks, no reservations yet. When I've asked when my reservation would be made, again they didn't want to commit and said that they couldn't tell me when (without a signature on the email this time). After asking again and again, they said my reservations would be made in July (my trip would be in August and August is high season). Then, I've requested the cancellation and, as you can guess, another headache then began. After being ignored again and I had to keep asking again and again, they said the refund would be made in September (after 5 months, but the agreement was 4 months) even they haven't done any reservation. I asked why it would be made in 5 months instead of what we agreed and I was ignored, of course. I've tried to ask few more times but no answer at all. I gave up and waited. September arrived and, of course, no refund, so I've sent a couple of emails, but no answer at all. Anyway, despite having lost money, I am grateful for the deliverance, it could be worse. DO NOT TRUST BIG APES NEITHER PETER, the communication completely change after making the payment, they don't keep their word and they don't refund your money, if it's the case, even promising you they will. I had USD 1,079.24 lost and my time wasted. DON'T CHOOSE BIG APES !!!

• Incredible Safari Experience

  We went on a 3-day safari with Big Apes Africa to see gorillas in Bwindi and Golden Monkeys in Volcanoes National Park. Everything was excellent: the organization was flawless and our guide, Blair, was amazing—very attentive, a great driver, and always willing to help. The gorilla experience was truly unforgettable, and I would definitely recommend Big Apes Africa to anyone who wants to live this adventure.

  A good organization that led to an exciting experience in a fantastic country. Special thanks to Ben, a competent guide and excellent driver, an indispensable condition for a sometimes difficult territory. The experience with the gorillas, and the boat trip to Kazinga Canal are worth the trip, and will remain indelible in my best memories.

  We had a wonderful trip through Rwanda and Uganda with many unforgettable moments. The wildlife encounters, beautiful landscapes, and diverse activities made this journey truly special. Our guides were friendly and knowledgeable, and the lodges were comfortable. A great way to experience the beauty of both countries – highly recommended!

  I had a great time on this tour! The tour was well organised and had stunning accommodation. Peter is easy to communicate with and Gerald is a knowledgeable guide who knows his way around the parks and the surrounding areas. I really enjoyed my time with them and can only recommend Big Apes Africa Safaris.

  Big Apes African Safaris were the first group to respond to my enquiry e mail. They are on top of their game and everything went as smoothly as it possibly could. Our guide Andrew was very friendly, warm, full of knowledge and on time with everything we did. I literally could just enjoy our safari experience without having to worry about anything! As a single woman touring with her son, I felt super safe and that was everything to me! Thank you Jackson also, it was lovely to meet you as well!

  

• A few issues and an Inexperienced Guide

  Unfortunately, our trip did not meet the 5-star expectations that led us to book this experience. From the outset, there were a number of concerns that impacted our overall enjoyment. On the first day, we were left waiting outside the Genocide Memorial for over 45 minutes. Our guide dropped us off at the entrance and said he would park the car and return, but he never reappeared. We tried looking for him around the area and the vehicle, but he was nowhere to be found. We never received an explanation for what happened during that time. The driving throughout Kigali felt unsafe. The guide frequently seemed unsure of the directions, and on multiple occasions, we had to assist using Google Maps. It was evident that he lacked confidence driving in Rwanda and was unfamiliar with many of the destinations on our itinerary. Communication was another major challenge. Instructions and updates were often unclear and lacked the level of professionalism we expected. While it was clear that our guide meant well and was trying to do a good job, we strongly feel he needs further training and more experience to meet the standards promised. Additionally, prior to the start of the trip, we attempted several times to pay the remaining balance ahead but did not receive the invoice until the final day of the trip. We were then told we couldn’t leave the lodge until payment was made — despite unreliable Wi-Fi and power outages that made it nearly impossible to complete the transaction promptly. This situation made us feel as if we were being held hostage, which was stressful and unnecessary. That said, we do want to acknowledge and sincerely appreciate the support we received from the company during the trip, especially when we had to cancel the Golden Monkey trek due to a health issue with my partner. The understanding and flexibility shown during that situation were truly appreciated and made a difficult moment easier to manage. While there were some highlights — notably the incredible gorilla trekking and a few lovely accommodations — these moments were overshadowed by the logistical issues and lack of professionalism throughout the rest of the experience.

  I cannot be more grateful to have booked with Big Apes, and even more grateful that my lucky stars gave me Brian as my guide! I’ve been lucky enough to have travelled to over 90 countries as a solo female traveler, but this might have been my best trip ever! Why? Rwanda and Uganda are incredibly beautiful countries, full of incredible people, landscapes and nature. From the start of my 4-Day Mountain Gorillas & Golden Monkeys Safari, I knew I was on an amazing adventure in very capable hands. The itneary was perfect, not too much, but always moving and optimising every chance I had to experince something new. I was able to see so much, and at all times felt very supported! The accommodation was great, transport comfortable and boarder passing smooth. But for me the most important special ingredient was my guide, Brian. He was the ultimate professional, always trying to make my experience memorable, giving me additional information and helping me out. By the end it was like I’d just been on a road trip with a friend. The world would be a better place if there were more Brians in it 😊 Don’t hesitate to book, you’ve found you’re next adventure!
