The Choral Temple
The Choral Temple is a synagogue located in Bucharest. It is a copy of Vienna’s Leopoldstadt-Tempelgasse Great Synagogue. The synagogue was devastated by the far-right Legionaries/Nazis, but was then restored after World War II, in 1945. It still hosts daily religious services in the small hall, being one of the few active synagogues in the city and in Romania.
Museum of History of the Jewish Community
The amazing Holy Union Temple synagogue was constructed in 1836, this building has served as a museum of Jewish history since 1978. A number of separate exhibitions display how the once vibrant Jewish community of Bucharest used to live, while there is also an impressive Jewish liturgical collection, most of which was assembled by Moses Rosen, Romania's chief rabbi from 1964-94 who founded the museum.

Radu was an excellent guide, a retired chemical engineer, who knew much about the history of his country.

Our guide was very knowledgeable. He made the tour because he was born in Bucharest and had so much of his life to share. It is too bad that there isn’t more offered on Jewish history in Bucharest compared to Budapest, Poland and Prague.

Spent a lovely day with Radu. Not only is he well versed in history but he is a pleasant and kind man. Great sense of humor. Next day he got in touch with us to let us know about things going on in town that he thought we would like. We recommend his tour.

Only one of the three synagogues was open. The guide tried to compensate by driving around. He was friendly and knowledgeable. Overall, it was overpriced.

This was the best guided tour I have ever taken. The guide has deep knowledge of the subject and explained what I was experiencing very comprehensively which was exactly what I hoped for. Highlights were arriving at the Great Synafogue during the procession of the Torah and visiting the Yiddish Theater. The guide was very straightforward in discussing Romania's role in the Holocaust which I respected. This is a deeply moving tour.

The tour guide Radu was wonderful, so knowledgeable about all things. The synagogues were great, we didn’t enjoy the Jewish theatre quite as much.

Radu was an amazing guide. He managed to get us into synagogues that were closed for the holidays. He took his time and didn’t rush us anywhere. He made all the information sound vital and interesting.

Catalin provided a narrative of Romanian Jewish history that reflected a deep respect for the suffering and tragedies known to have occurred in the spaces he introduced very eloquently! I was fortunate to communicate with him in both Romanian as well as English and he has clearly mastered the ability to use easy language as a mechanism to relay complex and deeply meaningful concepts relating to painful historical facts. Thank you for an enlightening guide. I recommend his work to anyone seeking insights into Romanian and Romanian Jewish history.

Radu was fabulous. He was incredibly knowledgeable about Jewish history in Romania. He took us to the few remaining synagogues in Bucharest which are unfortunately closed right now due to the current situation in Israel. We spent a lovely half hour with Marcel finding out about the only theatre in the world that has plays done entirely in Yiddish. We very much enjoyed spending time and learning about Romanian Jewish history and culture. We highly recommend Radu.
