FORT Island, formerly known as Flag Island, located some 16 kilometers from the mouth of the Essequibo River, was once the capital of the colonies of Essequibo and Demerara during the 16th and 17th centuries. the island bears an imprint of the Dutch in the form of two important structures – the Court of Policy and Fort Zeelandia. Take a walk through the Court of Policy, which was built in 1752, and learn more about this time in Guyana. This is the oldest non-military structure in Guyana and has donned many hats as a store, a church, court, and now a well-curated museum. A short walk away from here is Fort Zeelandia, an 18th century brick fort, which was one of the very first buildings constructed in the country. Though the fort is relatively small, it was vital as a defensive fortification.

5.00⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Our five-island trip to Essequibo with Wanderlust Guyana was absolutely amazing! From start to finish, the experience was unforgettable and very well organized. I learned so much on this trip, especially about the history of Guyana. A special shout-out to our tour guide Chris — he was extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and passionate about his job. The way he explained the history made everything come alive; it was truly mind-blowing. This trip was both fun and educational, and we enjoyed every moment of it. We will definitely be booking another trip again very soon. Highly recommend Wanderlust Guyana! 🌊✨

5.00Absolutely Amazing 5-Island and Town Hopping Tour!!! We had an amazing experience. The tour itself was beautiful, well organized, and truly unforgettable—but what made it exceptional was our tour guide, Chris. Chris was phenomenal: knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and genuinely cared about everyone in the group. He went above and beyond in every way. After the tour officially ended, he waited with us for almost an hour just to make sure we all got into our taxis safely. That level of care and professionalism is rare and meant so much to us. You can tell Chris truly loves what he does, and it shows in how he treats guests. I would 100% recommend Wanderlust Guyana and this tour to anyone visiting. If you get Chris as your guide, you’re in excellent hands!

4.00Chris was an amazing guide with a great personality and wealth of knowledge. The Essequibo river is beautiful and the historical forts were quite fascinating. I found the boat transfers by wooden speedboat to be very uncomfortable, but overall, it was a good trip.

Breath taking views , fun speed boat ride , calming hikes delicious food and a post birthday treat were the highlights of this tour. 10 out of 10. Will recommend and try again

5.00I had tried gathering and researching info from other companies for our family group of 19. This company gets a 5* for everything. Professional, polite and helpful staff, on time pick up and knowledgeable tour guide. There was no gimmick, delays or excuses….Would definitely be using this company again and recommending to family and friends.

5.00I had a truly memorable experience—one I would highly recommend to others. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and kept the group well informed throughout the entire tour. He even went out of his way to ensure I got home safely when my pickup did not arrive. The admission fee was very fair for the quality of service and the length of the experience. The atmosphere was enjoyable, the crowd size was perfect, and the tour guide was both friendly and attentive.
Remarkable shows how beautiful our country Guyana and is it’s a plus especially with the tour guide Chris,perfect trip !
