this tour is a great way to experience the whole of iceland during winter time without the hassle of navigating the weather and roads yourself. we got to see amazing waterfalls, landscapes, with fun and at times challenging (because of the weather) activities such as glacial hiking. do be prepared for plans to change last minute due to the weather but that’s the nature of iceland esp in december. john is a great guide with a fun personality and we got to learn a lot from him about all the places we visited and drove through. additional points for being a great DJ with pop culture tidbits about iceland!

Our 6-day Iceland tour was incredible, largely thanks to our guide, Rocky! He is fabulous, funny, and energetic, making every moment enjoyable. Rocky went above and beyond, even taking us out late at night to successfully hunt for the Northern Lights and sharing fascinating stories along the way. We were mesmerized by the sights, especially the marvelous black sand beach and the Diamond Beach, which was covered in huge, glittering 'diamonds' of ice. Glacier hiking was super fun and a definite highlight! The only minor letdown was the blue ice cave not being blue (due to weather), but it didn't overshadow the fantastic trip. Book this tour, and definitely ask for Rocky—he's the best guide!

My friend and I joined a 6-day tour with John as our guide. He was quite rude and impolite. We were particularly unhappy with his room arrangements. Due to a shortage of rooms, he assigned my friend and me to a different hotel from the rest of the group. The worst part was that our hotel could not see the aurora at night, while the hotel where the other tour members were staying had a perfect view from their windows. John could not explain why my friend and I were the ones chosen for this. We all paid the same price for this trip!!!!!! Maybe it was because we were the only Asians in the group—we don’t know. To make matters worse, he referred to us by our place of origin instead of using our names, even though he could name all the other tour members. It was horrible! 🙄

My husband and I booked a fairly last minute tour using Trolls. We would be in Iceland for 8 days to see the Northern Lights. Trolls was great at communicating with us and answering any questions we had during the booking process. They also honored a discount that went into affect right after we booked. Our flights got a bit hectic on the way there and even up until the morning of the tour their customer service was helping us with taxi companies and changing pick up times and locations. Our guide is what made our tour amazing. John was very knowledgeable about the history, geology, and geography of the island. We were able to do most of the highlights, excluding the glacier hike due to weather and a waterfall that is only open during the summer. He made every effort to stay on time, get us to the highlights and made extra stops at places he knew of and wanted to share. John made a point to get to know everyone in the group, what they wanted to see, and what they enjoyed. In doing this, he was able to customize the tour to the best he could. For us, he made a point to recommend places with local brews or ways to get better panorama pictures. We had a group of around 15 people. He kept us informed of the schedule each day, the weather, the aurora forecast, what we should wear for activities and anything we would need for the day (like rain wear or hiking boots). He also handled two guests that were becoming an issue with the group, from day one and day two trying to continuous talk about politics to harassing other guests who were a bit late back to the bus. John was professional with them, and when they quit the tour he spent the morning trying to assist them with accommodations back to the city. Fortunately, the group ran smoothly after this. He even got my introvert husband to get involved to where he was actively asking John questions. The highlights included several waterfalls, a glacier climb (canceled due to wind), an ice cave hike (highly recommend), a few black sand beaches, traditional architecture, tectonic plates, geysurs, whale watching, and a visit to a geothermal bath (fantastic add on). The hotels were nice and he kept us informed on where we were staying and if it changed. The tour was fantastic and we will be returning to do more, hopefully this time with our kiddo. We hope to get John as our guide again and will make the request for more great geography lessons!

My son and I attended the 6 day ring road tour in winter. We were greeted by a very spirited and knowledgeable guide John, who happens to also be a passionate geographer to take us on this adventure around Iceland. The 6 days tour was fantastic because we don’t have to worry about driving and navigating the very challenging terrain and weather, all the accommodation was booked and very clean and comfortable. John also introduced us to a lot of the local delicious Icelandic cuisine which to our surprise was delicious and filling! Given the ever changing weather conditions, it was great to that John was able to make adjustments along the way and given give us extra stops to show us more of Iceland. The highlights of this trip for us was walking on the glacier, glacier lagoon, diamond beach, ice cave hike, the vok baths where we swam in the geothermal baths, and last but not least the whale watching on the last day. John was truly a guide that made us feel welcome, really brought the group together, shared his deep knowledge of Iceland and its geography and also was a skilled and safe driver. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and I highly recommend that if you ever come to Iceland, join the 6-8 days ring road tours with Troll.is and ask for John as your guide!

Visited Iceland with my family and taking this tour was the best decision ever. John was such a knowledgeable and lovely guide, and you can easily tell he is deeply passionate about both his job and Iceland, which he likes to show through "his own eyes". There were so many extra stops and surprises that made the trip unique -no spoilers-, which I do not think we could have seen otherwise. Super thankful to John, he made it an unforgettable experience for our family, as well as providing the comfort of not having to think about anything and ensuring you get to see the most out of the "worry-free" holidays. It was my first guided tour and would definitely repeat. I just wish John would also make tours in other countries!
