Day 3: Amman Hotel, Mt Nebo, Madaba, Kerak, Petra

1

Madaba Mosaic Map

Created around 560 AD, the map is located on the floor of the Church of St. George in Madaba, Jordan. It's the oldest surviving original cartographic depiction of the Holy Land, offering a detailed view of the region from Egypt to Lebanon, including Jerusalem, the Jordan River, and the Dead Sea. The map features not just geographical features but also biblical landmarks like cities, towns, and religious sites, making it a valuable resource for understanding early Christian beliefs and geography. Intricate Detail: The map is crafted from millions of tiny colored tesserae, creating a rich and vivid picture of the region. Unique Perspective: It offers a bird's-eye view of the Holy Land, unlike traditional maps that depict landmasses from the side. Historical Accuracy: Archaeological studies have shown that the map's depiction of cities and landmarks is surprisingly accurate for its time.

The Baptism Site Of Jesus Christ

The Baptism Site of Jesus Christ, also known as Bethany Beyond the Jordan or Al-Maghtas, is an archaeological World Heritage Site in Jordan. It is located on the east bank of the Jordan River, north of the Dead Sea, and is believed to be the place where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. The site has been venerated as a pilgrimage destination since at least the Byzantine period, and there are many ruins of churches and monasteries from that time. In recent years, archaeological excavations have uncovered even more evidence of early Christian activity at the site, including caves used by hermits and a baptismal pool. The Baptism Site is open to the public and is a popular destination for both Christian pilgrims and tourists. There is a museum on site that tells the story of the baptism of Jesus, and there are also guided tours available.

  • Solo female travel falls in love with Jordan

Best way to tour Jordan, hands down! I came to Jordan for my birthday as a solo female, a bit apprehensive of what to expect. My driver/tour guide extraordinaire, Mohammad or, “Mr. Mint,” was exceptional in making sure that every day was my favorite day! I felt completely safe, taken care of, & I really got a sense of the true Jordanian culture. Being that it was a trip for my birthday, Mr. Mint thoughtfully had a custom sand art piece done for me & had the all the restaurants went to, sing for me :). He was so sweet to take note of the details & made sure to cater the trip for me- the whole trip was totally flexible which I appreciated. From landing in the airport to going back home, everything was handled flawlessly by R&H VIP Transportation. I would HIGHLY recommend this company to anyone wanting to experience the beauty & wonder of Jordan. Ask for Mr. Mint specifically, he’ll take care of you :)

  • This tour is by far the best value...

This tour is by far the best value of any tour listed on Viator's site especially for Jordan. We had one driver who took us around the country. Though hotels weren't included we used our hotel points from Hilton and Marriott to fund our lodging. It also didn't include entrance fees either which is expected but just have the transportation and intermittent commentaries from the driver Samir made it an exceptional value for the price paid. Would definitely do this again if I were going back to Jordan!
