Thimphu Chorten (Memorial Chorten)

Arriving in Thimphu, you will check in to your hotel and enjoy some time to relax after your journey. In the afternoon, your exploration of the capital begins with a visit to the National Memorial Chorten, one of the city’s most revered spiritual landmarks. The National Memorial Chorten was built in memory of H.M. Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, Bhutan’s third king and the “Father of Modern Bhutan.” Originally envisioned by the late king as a monument dedicated to world peace, it was later completed and consecrated by the Royal Family and the Cabinet on July 28, 1974. After breakfast we will head to motithang takin preserve centre. The Takin Reserve in Thimphu is dedicated to the conservation of Bhutan's national animal, the takin, known for its unique appearance and adaptations. Visitors can enjoy scenic walks while observing the takin in their tranquil environment, along with various other wildlife. Tashichho Dzong (Thimpu Dzong)

Dochula Pass

On the way stop for a scenic photoshot and a cup of tea/coffee at Dochula, situated at an altitude of 3,100 meters just 30 kilometers from Thimphu, offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayas, especially on clear days. Renowned for its 108 chortens (stupas) built in honor of Bhutanese soldiers who lost their lives in a 2003 conflict, the pass is adorned with vibrant prayer flags that enhance its spiritual ambiance. Visitors can explore nature trails, enjoy the serene landscape, and visit the nearby Druk Wangyal Lhakhang, a beautiful temple dedicated to the Fourth Druk Gyalpo. Combining natural beauty with rich cultural significance, Dochula Pass is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling through Bhutan.

Chimi Lhakhang Temple

Chhimi Lhakhang, perched on a small hillock and accessible via a 15-minute walk through lush rice fields, is a revered fertility temple visited by couples facing challenges in conceiving. Many have been blessed with children after receiving blessings from a replica of Drukpa Kuenley's iron bow and arrow, his scriptures, and the phallus symbol. Legend has it that Lam Drukpa Kuenley defeated a demoness that transformed into a dog and buried it under a hill, declaring “chi-med” (no dog) and building a black stupa in its place. He transformed the demoness into a guardian deity, renaming her Chhoekim, meaning "the one converted to religion." Today, Chhoekim serves as the protector of Chhimi Lhakhang, adding to the temple's significance as a place of faith and hope for many couples.

Punakha Dzong

Punakha Dzong, built at the junction of the Phochhu and Mochhu rivers by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1637, stands as a symbol of a unified Bhutan and serves as the winter residence for the central monk body and district administration. After significant damage from glacial lake outburst floods (GLOF), it has been beautifully restored to its original grandeur. Ta Dzong Museum

After breakfast we trace back our way to Paro. Originally built in the 17th century as a watchtower to protect the Paro Valley, holds immense historical and cultural significance in Bhutan. Today, it serves as the National Museum of Bhutan, showcasing the country's rich heritage through a vast collection of artifacts, including ancient weapons, traditional costumes, and exquisite thangka paintings that narrate Bhutan's history, culture, and religion. Its unique circular architecture reflects traditional Bhutanese aesthetics, while its elevated position offers stunning panoramic views of the valley. Jangtsa Dumtseg Lhakhang

Located at the edge of a hill between Paro and Dopshari valleys, this is is a serene and sacred site with a rich history. Built in 1421 by the legendary bridge builder Drupthob Thangthong Gyalpo, the monastery is said to rest on the head of a demoness, whose evil influence was subdued upon its construction. Shaped like a chorten with a striking white tower, the monastery offers stunning views of the Paro Chhu river and surrounding valleys. Inside, discover exquisite Buddhist paintings and iconography, preserved since its restoration in 1841.

Nyamai Zam Footbridge in Paro is a picturesque traditional-style bridge spanning the Paro Chhu River, offering stunning views of the valley, riverbanks, and surrounding mountains. Built in classic Bhutanese architectural style with wooden detailing and colorful traditional design, it beautifully reflects the country’s cultural aesthetics. The bridge connects key parts of Paro town and is a pleasant spot for a leisurely walk, photography, and enjoying the peaceful riverside atmosphere. It is especially captivating during sunrise and sunset when the valley is bathed in soft golden light. After that we wrap up the day early to prepare for big day tomorrow.

After early breakfast, we embark on a scenic excursion to iconic Paro Taktshang A.K.A Tiger's Nest. Legend has it that in the 8th century, Guru Rinpoche soared on the back of a tigress from eastern Bhutan to this sacred spot, where he meditated in a cave for three months, earning it the enchanting name "Tiger’s Nest." The monastic complex we see today was founded in 1692, though it faced a devastating fire in 1998. After years of meticulous restoration, it now gleams with renewed splendour. Revered as a pilgrimage destination, many Bhutanese strive to visit this spiritual haven at least once in their lives. The journey involves a steep ascent through fragrant pine forests, rewarding adventurers with awe-inspiring views that unfold along the trail and from the stunning cafeteria viewpoint. Every step of the way is an invitation to embrace the beauty and mystique of this extraordinary place.
