Hiking time: 7 hours Distance: Approximately 18 kilometers Habitat: Montane forest Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner After an early breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked up and driven to the Machame Village. In the village, you can buy mineral water and will receive a packed lunch. From the village, depending on the road conditions, you will either continue to drive from the village to the Machame gate, but if not, the muddy 3 km walk will take about 1 hour to complete. After registering at the gate office, you start your ascent and enter the rain forest almost immediately. There is a strong possibility of rain in the forest, which will transform the trail into a very soggy, muddy and slippery experience. You will have a welcome lunch stop about half way and will reach the Machame camping area in the late afternoon. Your porters (arriving at the camp site long before you) will have erected your tent on your arrival. In the evening the porters will boil drinking and washing water and the cook will prepare dinner, before you retire to your tent for the night. Night temperatures can already drop to freezing point at this campsite.

Hiking time: 6h Distance: Approximately 9 kms Habitat: Moorland Meals : Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner You rise early at Machame camp and after breakfast you climb an hour or so to the top of the forest and then for 2 hours at a gentler gradient through the moorland zone. After a short lunch and rest, you continue up a rocky ridge onto the Shira plateau. By now you will be able to see in an easterly direction, the Western Breach with its stunning glaciers. You are now due west of Kibo and after a short hike you will reach the Shira campsite at 3 840m. The porters will boil drinking and washing water, before serving dinner. The night at this exposed camp will even be colder than the previous night, with temperatures dropping to well below freezing.

Hiking time: 7h Distance: Approximately 15 kms Habitat: Semi-desert Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner The route now turns east into a semi desert and rocky landscape surrounding Lava Tower, where you reach an altitude of 4630m after about a 5 hours walk. Lunch is served in a designated area before ascending the rocky scree path to Lava Tower (4630m). This is definitely the toughest day so far. It is normally around this point, where for the first time, some climbers will start to feel symptoms of breathlessness, irritability and headaches. After lunch you descent again by almost 680m to the Barranco camping area and after reaching the high altitude of 4600m at Lava Tower, the true acclimatisation benefit of this day becomes clear. This descent to Barranco camp takes about 2 hours and offers great opportunities to take some beautiful photographs of the Western Breach and Breach Wall. The camp is situated in a valley below the Breach and Great Barranco Wall, which should provide you with a memorable sunset while you wait for the preparation of your dinner.

Hiking time: 7h Distance: Approximately 13 kms Habitat: Alpine desert Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner After spending a night at the Great Barranco Wall (a very imposing sight at first), you make your way up this awesome looking obstacle, which in the end normally turns out easier than what you anticipated. Topping out just below the Heim Glacier, you now appreciate just how beautiful Kilimanjaro really is. The route then heads down through the Karanga Valley over intervening ridges and valleys, and then joins up with the Mweka route. This is the preferred route down from the summit, so remember it. Turn left up the ridge and after another hour or so, you reach Barafu Hut. The last water stop on the route is the Karranga Valley, as there is no water at Barafu camp. Barafu is the Swahili word for “ice” and it is a bleak and inhospitable camping area to spend the night. Totally exposed to the ever-present gales the tents are pitched on a narrow, stony, and dangerous ridge. Make sure that you familiarise yourself with the terrain before dark to avoid any accidents. The summit is now a further 1345m up and you will make the final ascent the same night. Prepare your equipment, ski stick and thermal clothing for your summit attempt. This should include the replacement of your headlamp and camera batteries and make sure you have a spare set available as well. To prevent freezing it will be wise to carry your water in a thermal flask. Go to bed at round about 19h00 and try to get some precious rest and sleep.

Hiking time: 8h to reach Uhuru Peak, 7 – 8h to descend to Mweka Distance: Approximately 7 kms ascent – 23 kms descent Habitat: Stone scree and ice-capped summit Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner You will rise around 23h30, and after some tea and biscuits you shuffle off into the night. You will head in a north-westerly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. For many climbers, this 6-hour walk to Stella point is mentally and physically the most challenging on the route. At Stella Point (5685m) you will stop for a short rest and will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see (weather permitting). From Stella Point you will normally encounter snow all the way on your 2-hour ascent to Uhuru Peak. The time you will spend on the summit will depend on the weather conditions. Do not stop here for too long, as it will be extremely difficult to start again due to cold and fatigue. Enjoy your accomplishment and a day to remember for the rest of your live. The walk back to Barafu from the summit, takes about 3 hours. Here you will have a well earned but short rest and collect the rest of your gear. The route is not difficult and will take you down the rock and scree path into the moorland and eventually into the forest. The camp is situated in the upper forest and mist or rain can be expected in the late afternoon. Dinner and washing water will be prepared.

Hiking time: 3h Distance: Approximately 15 kms Habitat: Forest Meals: Breakfast Following a well-deserved breakfast, your staff will have a big celebration full of dancing and singing. It is here on the mountain that you will present your tips to the guide, assistant guides, chef(s), and porters. After celebrating, you will descend for three hours back to Mweka Gate. The National Park requires all hikers to sign their names to receive certificates of completion. Hikers who reached Stella Point (5685m) receive green certificates and hikers who reached Uhuru Peak (5895m) receive gold certificates. After receiving certificates, hikers will descend into the Mweka village for 1 hour (3 kilometers). You will be served a hot lunch then you will drive back to Moshi town for long overdue showers and more celebrations.

5.00Came from Tanzania where we completed a 6 day climb of Kilimanjaro via the Whiskey route (Machamee). I was struck by the excellent organization and preparation that had been done prior to our trek. We met with Naick the Director Kilisa at KIA and he transferred us, to Springlands hotel where we were booked. After freshening up Naick introduced us to our guides (Baraka and John). They gave us a detailed briefing about the trek and later checked our gear for completeness. The next 6 days on Kilimanjaro are a lifetime of experiences, as the mountain is challenging with the vast distances covered, altitude, temperatures and pushing the body to endure the tough conditions. The crew was very skilled, professional and highly experienced on the route. They were also kind and took excellent care of us, they made sure that we had great food, comfortable sleeping quarters and above all they were great companions. I give Kilisa 10/10 for the outstanding support service and also charging very reasonably for the premium support.

5.00Kilisa gave us solid support during our recent trek on Kilimanjaro. They did everything that we expected and much more to ensure that we were safe, comfortable and also enjoyed the trek. The trek was mighty tough, actually it did not seem as such in the beginning, but as the day progressed it became increasingly difficult, because of the altitude and the cold. Luckily we had a great team behind us. They were not only well organized but had the right equipment for the trek. The tents were comfortable given the terrain, a nice mess tent, enough chairs and above all the food was delicious and plentiful. There were many thing that were included that made conditions better like the portable toilet, oxygen bottles for the unforeseen emergency, hot water warmers to sleep with at night. The service was all top class and I have to appreciate the work that Naick and his team at the office put it in order to organize such a flawless trek.

5.00I had a fantastic day trip to Chemka (Kikuletwa) Hot Springs organized by Kilisa Tours & Safaris, and I highly recommend the experience to anyone visiting Moshi or Arusha! The day started with a comfortable drive through local villages and scenic landscapes, giving us a great glimpse into rural Tanzanian life. Our guide was friendly, informative, and made sure everything ran smoothly from start to finish. When we arrived at the hot springs, the sight was incredible—crystal-clear turquoise water surrounded by lush fig trees and soft white sand. It truly felt like a hidden oasis in the middle of nowhere. The water was warm and refreshing, perfect for swimming, floating, or just relaxing in nature. Kilisa Tours also provided a delicious local lunch and fresh fruits, which made the experience even more enjoyable. They were well-prepared, professional, and made sure we were comfortable throughout the tour. If you're looking for a fun, relaxing, and scenic escape from your Kilimanjaro trek or safari, this day trip is an excellent choice. Kilisa Tours & Safaris made it easy and memorable—definitely a highlight of my time in Tanzania!

5.00We could not have asked for a better experience on Kilimanjaro. Everything about this trip with this local operator was top notch. Starting with the booking with Naick who made it smooth and easy with his timely responses and advice. Payment was easy and they took care of all the logistics that all we had to do was present ourselves at the KIA. The actual trek was tough but our crew made it easier with with their support. They were everything a wonderful crew should be and much more. Nickson and Livingstone were knowledgeable and very experienced on the Machame route. They observed all the safety protocols and left nothing to chance. They had thought and prepared for almost everything. It was reassuring to get our vitals checked every morning and evening for oxygen levels. Their depth of knowledge and concern for our safety was their top priority. Everything was well organized and scheduled in the itinerary. Meals were prepared by our chef and were very tasty. The equipment was excellent, especially the waterproof tents that kept us dry. The summit night was tough! We almost turned back, but were coaxed and encouraged by Nickson and Livingstone to keep going. We owe them our successful summit. I highly recommend Kilisa Tours and Safaris for all those planning to trek up Kilimanjaro. They are not only reasonably priced but also take their clients hospitality very seriously.

5.00I can’t recommend Kilisa Tours enough. We just finished the trek a couple of days ago. From the pick up at the airport, everything went smoothly. We asked our driver Nicholson to give us a little tour walking around Moshi as we had some time to kill, which he did happily (we gave him a tip obviously). Then our guides, the fabulous Bakari and Matthew, cake to our hotel to check over our kit, making sure we had everything we needed and tell us the plan for the six days ahead. On day one, we stopped by the office to pick up the amazing crew of 7 porters, our chef and Matt and Bakari. Everyone was super friendly from the word go and they all had some limited English so we could converse a little bit. Day one was through the rainforest - we got soaked - but we’re met back at camp with our tent set up and shortly after a hot meal presented to us. This was the standard every day. Some days we even stopped for a hot lunch. Both me and my partner are vegetarian and our chef - Kurwa - or Mama Africa, always made tasty filling food for us. Even breakfast was two courses. He couldn’t feed us enough and we were both very grateful to have full bellies! The porters always beat us to camp, even though every day we were the first trekkers to arrive, which is testament to the brilliant organisation of Kilisa and our guides. A couple of porters would even meet us most days about 500km from camp and carry our day packs for the last stretch. As for our guides, Matthew and Bakari. They were brilliant. Their confidence and positivity put us immediately at ease. The one tough day was the stretch to the summit (obviously) and they guided us through it with such kindness and grace, I cannot praise them enough. They kept us going, kept us warm and most importantly got us down as quickly as they possible could as by the time we’d hit the top we both felt pretty awful. This was the most awesome, friendliest, most professional group of people and the price of the trek seemed reasonable when comparing to other companies. The staff all seemed to be proud of the company and treated fairly. We always felt safe and taken care of and the office were easy to communicate with pre booking and quick to answer emails. My advice... Go for it! (And take a hot water bottle for your sleeping bag!)

5.00There are so many different companies to hike Kili with! When we were choosing and reading reviews etc. it was honestly overwhelming! We decided to hike with Kilisa Tours and it was absolutely amazing. It was such a welcoming and authentic experience, I dont think there is a better tour company to hike with. Our guide, Rama, the porters, our chef, as well as the crew in Moshi, Naick and Juliana, were helpful and accommodating every step of the way. Every part of the hike was thought out ahead of time and it made it so much easier and more enjoyable when it came time to reach the summit! Amazing company in Moshi and definitely recommend these amazing people to take you up the mountain!

5.00Couldn’t recommend Kilisa highly enough. The team are extremely experienced and will do anything to help make your trip one of a lifetime. The guides make you feel extremely safe and comfortable and the team are really friendly which makes the trip even more fun! The porters go out of their way to help you along the way and the food is delicious - I have no idea how they can prepare such great meals 5000m up a mountain! We immediately felt part of the Kilisa family, the guides take such good care of you and we couldn’t have felt safer in their hands. We were so pleased to be with the Kilisa team. Complete professionals, lovely people and helped us have the most amazing experience. If you’re wanting to climb Kilimanjaro (which i absolutely recommend) then I couldn’t be more positive about Kilisa tours.

5.00To be honest, Kilisa tour is best local tour to make your dreams come true. We spent 6 days with amazing guides, porters and cooker. Everything was organized very well, I have to say that also all food were very delicious. This make us fell that we’re at home. Team work of Mountain crews helped us a lot to success summit Kilimanjaro all the time. Yessss we did, when we reached the summit I can not explain my feeling everybody hugging each other. I can say that it was the best moment in my life. I really appreciated to all team and want to say again thank you for everything. Kilisa is the best 💛
