1

Wirrabara

Your outback adventure kicks off before sunrise, leaving the city behind while most are still hitting snooze. After a quick caffeine crawl out of Adelaide, we cruise north to the sleepy town of Wirrabara. Here, towering silo art brings colour and culture to the streets and Julie's Bakery serves up the kind of country comfort food you didn't know you needed.

2

Arkaroo Rock

Next stop: Arkaroo Rock, tucked deep in Adnyamathanha Country. This is more than a hike, it's a time machine. The 3.2 km trail weaves through native bush to a rock shelter etched with ochre and charcoal art that's over 5,000 years old. These ancient markings tell the story of Akurra, the giant serpent whose body shaped this land. It's raw, sacred, and completely unforgettable.

3

Wilpena Pound

As the sun dips and shadows stretch across the ranges, we arrive at Wilpena Pound, our base for the night. Here, a local Yura guide welcomes us to Country, sharing stories first spoken in Yura Ngawarla, then brought to life in English. It's not just a greeting; it's an invitation to connect with the spirit of the land and those who have cared for it for millennia. To wrap the day, it's back to camp for dinner before rolling out your swag beneath the stars, where the Milky Way becomes your ceiling. Distance travelled today is approximately 450Km

Flinders Ranges National Park

After breakfast, we'll strap on the boots for the Wangara Lookout Hike. Starting from the Wilpena Pound Visitor Centre, this 7 km return trail weaves through shady Pound Gap, where river red gums tower overhead and emus and kangaroos might casually photobomb your walk. You'll hit the historic Hills Homestead first, a great spot to catch your breath. From there, it's a short, steep push to the lookout. If you're up for it, the upper platform dishes out panoramas that'll blow your boots off.

Warren Gorge

Back on level ground, we explore Old Wilpena Station, where the outback grit of early pastoral days meets ancient Adnyamathanha Country. Back on the bus, travel to Hawker for lunch and a quick stop at the Jeff Morgan Gallery, part art, part time warp. Roll into Warren Gorge for a 5.2 km hike which delivers on drama: burnt-orange cliffs, cypress pines, and if you are lucky, a glimpse of the rare yellow-footed rock wallabies bouncing between boulders. I had an awesome time on this tour through the outback. Especially, I enjoyed all the great hikes we did. And of course, I really liked the swag camping under the stars. Thanks to Chris our tour guide, he did an awesome job. When we hit a closed national park at Warren Gorge, he quickly organized a great alternative hike and campground, so that I didn't feel like missing out anything.

We had an absolutely amazing 7-day trip from Adelaide to Uluru with a group of 11 people plus our guide. There was a great team spirit from day one and an overall fantastic atmosphere throughout the journey. Chris was an outstanding guide — he drove us safely all the way from Adelaide to Uluru, always calm and professional. On top of that, he’s a great listener, has an excellent music playlist, and a fantastic sense of humor, so we shared a lot of laughs along the way. These were truly wonderful holidays, and I would highly recommend this trip and Chris to anyone looking for an unforgettable experience.

Adelaide to Ularu Jan 9 - 16 2026 Firstly I would like to start off by saying that for anyone looking for a top shelf and authentic experience throughout this part of Australia . Do not hesitate. I can and will highly recommend Untamed Escapes as a company Route and Itinerary all well thought out Camping facilities and bus are comfortable and clean Food was excellent. The hikes were proper and challenging given the intense heat at this time of the year But as with all components on this adventure the hikes were well managed to meet the challenges The fellow travellers (all from Europe ) were awesome and each did what was required to operate as a group travelling in close quarters and tackling the responsibilities that come with outback camping and working as a unit I want to thank them all for making this a most enjoyable and memorable experience for me and each other Lastly and MOST importantly the # 1 reason that I will always speak so highly of the last 7 days from Adelaide to Uluru was our guide CHRIS BRANSON. Chris did an OUTSTANDING job of managing to make All of us experience what I believe were all hoping for when we signed up His sage wisdom and easy going manner was evident to and appreciated by all in the group Being a teacher I have an appreciation for how difficult it is to get 10 strangers on the same page let alone getting them to get out of bed at 3:45 am to beat the heat / make their own meals / clean up / pack up and travel half way across the hottest spot on earth in close quarters And keep them all together and safe and smiling Sometimes I am sure it is like herding cats. You need patience / clarity and respect Chris delivers on all 3 I walk away from this experience with a deeper understanding of life in this part of Australia In particular I walk away with an deeper appreciation of those that have lived here for 60000 years Because of Chris's obvious knowledge and regard for those that inhabit now and in the past where we have just travelled Well Done Untamed Escape Well Done fellow travellers Well Done and Thank You Chris This is all coming from someone who has exploring this planet for over half a century in no small way in many different ways including spending significant time in the center and Western Australia at this time of year on 3 different occasions 10/ 10 rating

I had a wonderful experience on this tour! Chris went above and beyond to make sure we all had an amazing time. We weren’t able to do one of our planned walks due to the extreme heat and the park being closed, so Chris took us to a different walk up Devil’s Peak, which might have been the highlight of the tour for me! He was extremely knowledgable about the history of South Australia and The Northern Territory and gave us all a deeper understanding of indigenous people and culture. I would recommend this tour to anyone.
