Tarangire National Park
Today after breakfast, you will drive to Tarangire National Park with lunch boxes. The drive to Tarangire National Park is about 110km and takes about 2 hours from Arusha. Tarangire National Park is a huge park best known for its large herds of elephants, but it’s also great for lion and leopard, wonderful for birdlife and great variety of landscape and wildlife. The gorgeous Silale Swamp, towards the south of the park, is magnificent and almost always rich in wildlife taking advantage of this reliable water source. The park provides water not only from the swamp, but also from the Tarangire River. During the dry season, it’s the primary source of water for animals from the entire area, making for fantastic viewing. You will have your lunch in the park (your driver guide will pick a picnic site in the park where you can have your lunch) and thereafter, continue with the game drive. Parks normally open at 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. You will be at your next lodge in time for dinner.

Lake Manyara National Park
This is another lovely park, lying roughly between Tarangire and the Ngorongoro Crater. It boasts a beautiful little groundwater forest where you can spot blue monkeys, lots of giraffes, elephants, lions, leopards and a very pretty lake dusted pink in the distance with flamingos. Stretching for 50km along the base of the rusty-gold 600m high Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara is a scenic gem, with a setting extolled by Ernest Hemingway as “the loveliest I had seen in Africa”. From the entrance gate, the road winds through an expanse of lush jungle-like groundwater forest. Here hundred-strong baboon troops lounge nonchalantly along the roadside, blue monkeys scamper nimbly between the ancient mahogany trees, dainty bushbuck tread through the shadows, and outsized forest hornbills honk cacophonously in the high canopy. You will enjoy your lunch box in the park and continue with the game drive. In the late afternoon, you will be driven back to your lodge.

Serengeti National Park
Today after breakfast, your driver guide will pick you from your lodge and you will drive to the famous Serengeti. You will visit a Maasai Village in the Ngorongoro Highlands (optional), where you will meet the elders, warriors, women and children. Learn about the culture, beliefs and traditions of Tanzania’s last nomadic tribe The Central Serengeti boast those spectacular “endless plains,” dotted with acacia trees and the occasional rocky kopjes. What is special about Central Serengeti is the wide-open spaces, driving through the miles and miles of animals as far as the eye can see and riverine forest. There is nice chance of seeing leopards along the river valleys as well as wildebeest spread over a large area (it can be visited at any time of the year). You will have your lunch in the park and thereafter, continue with the game drive. In the evening, you will drive to an authentic intimate tented camp set in a secluded part of the game-rich Seronera Valley in Central Serengeti.

Serengeti National Park
Before sunrise at around 6:00 am, we'll leave the lodge for early morning game drive. This is generally the best time to spot the wildlife, as the temperature is cool and the animals are still very active, including the big cats which will be returning from a night of hunting. You will then drive back to the lodge for a leisure breakfast followed by a pure relaxation break. You will then go for another game drive and sunset viewing over the Serengeti and then drive back to your lodge.

Ngorongoro Crater
Today you will drive to the stunning Ngorongoro Crater. It’s a 2 hour drive from Serengeti. This Crater is the world’s largest intact collapsed caldera (volcano) which is a self-contained ecosystem with its own unique population of wildlife in a confined area of amazing variety. The Crater boasts lots of lions, hyenas, fantastic bird-life, servals, Cape buffalo, zebras and gorgeous landscapes. Also there is an added advantage of seeing rhinos, if you are lucky. The view from the veranda of the lodges are breathtaking especially in the morning with the early morning mist, because of the high altitude (it can be visited at any time of the year). You will have your lunch in the Crater and then continue with the game drive.

We had an incredible time exploring the beauty of Tanzania, and this trip will stay with us forever. The accommodations were exceptional—each hotel had its own charm and elevated our experience. Lemala and Melia offered unforgettable views and warm hospitality in the heart of the wild. Zuri Zanzibar was a tropical paradise, and Park Hyatt Zanzibar gave us a luxurious end to the journey with its elegant design and perfect oceanfront location. A special thanks to Pendo, who was always responsive, supportive, and helpful throughout our planning and the trip itself. Her quick replies and attention to our needs gave us peace of mind. One small suggestion for future travelers: book activities in advance, especially for special experiences like walking safaris. We had hoped to do a walking safari in Serengeti, but were told we could book it along the way. Unfortunately, it was unavailable on the day we arrived. Luckily, we managed to do one in Ngorongoro instead, which was still amazing, but it would have been better to secure the Serengeti activity in advance. Our driver, Dismas, was excellent—very responsible and dedicated. He really went the extra mile to help us spot animals and made sure we had the best game drive experience possible. Although our 4x4 had a minor issue with the pop-up roof, he tried his best to fix it. It would be great if the vehicles could be checked more thoroughly before each trip. Overall, it was a wonderful journey filled with adventure, wildlife, and unforgettable landscapes. We’ll definitely return for another safari experience in the future!

We had a wonderful trip (10 days safari and 4 days Zanzibar), totally spoilt with everything (accommodation, food, drinks and sightings) and wonderful hospitality. Booking was made very easy with quick replies to our numerous enquiries from Pendo. She kept us informed all the way, managing our group of 5 form 4 different countries. Nothing was too difficult, so it made planning the trip a breeze. Payment was also very flexible, as some of us paid by WISE whilst others by bank transfer. When we arrived in Killimanjaro, we were met by Dismas - our guide for the next 10 days. We saw lots of animals - some up close and personal especially prides of lions (a few times). Most spectacular was a couple millions of flamingos at Lake Natron - an unforgettable sight. A great shout out to Dismas and Said (our guide in Zanzibar), both wonderful guides. Said in particular , was a walking historical encyclopedia and such a gentleman. I would recommend Tales of Tanzania anytime!

We completed our safari tour with Tales of Tanzania in September and then some R&R in Zanzibar. We had an amazing time on our safari, excellent accomodation and our tour guide Dismas made special effort to make our safari memorable, I cannot forget seeing 2 million flamingoes on Lake Natron, pride of lionesses with their cubs playing, wildebeest crossing the Mara river and massive number of hippos in hippo pool. A special mention for Pendo who has been so helpful, responsive and accomodating to cater to our requests and needs. You are a star and we appreciate your efforts in making our trip special especially in Ngorongoro crater, the Gran Melia’s views and experience was special. Thanks Tales of Tanzania for my bucket list trip so special. Highly recommended A+++++++

Pendo and Tales of Tanzania Safaris made the booking process from Australia very seamless. Pendo was very prompt in responding to my queries and designed a safari around our needs and desires. Everything she did was professional and friendly. Peter our guide was amazing. He knew everything about people, animals, history and cultures in Tanzania. He went the extra mile to ensure our safari was memorable. From finding all the Big 5 for us to driving us at 4:30am to our hot air balloon adventure over the Serengeti. I highly recommend Pendo and Tales of Tanzania and encourage you to use them for your first or next safari. You will not be disappointed.
