We wondered if coming to Beijing in January would be too cold but we had the best time! Our guide, Barry, was so friendly and sweet and made our whole time stress free and fascinating. It was sunny and in the 30s-40s for our visit to Forbidden City. We took a day on our own to explore in the Hutongs. And then Barry took us to the Great Wall after a snowfall and the landscape looked magical. We are vegan/vegetarian and Barry found a great restaurant near Peking University where we had the most delicious meal of our trip: Fennel-flavored dumplings, Kung pao mushroom, Sichuan pepper noodles! Yum. The 4-star Penta Hotel was located in walking distance of Beijing’s “Times Square” and we had so much fun people watching, shopping, etc. I will miss the buffet breakfast! I recommend a visit to Beijing in winter because there are few crowds. Definitely ask for Barry and he will take good care of you!
