7,742 ft to 9,498 ft, 4 miles, approx. 3-4 hours From Arusha, set out in vehicles for the long drive to the starting point of the Lemosho Trail, the Londorossi Gate. Approaching the mountain from the west, the Lemosho Route starts in the Afromontane Rainforest, which is the first of four ecological zones you encounter on Kilimanjaro. Here you meet the rest of your crew and set off at a leisurely pace while keeping your eyes peeled for wildlife. Lunch is taken on the trail and camp is reached mid-afternoon. Overnight at Forest Camp.

9,498 ft to 11,500 ft, 5 miles, approx. 5-6 hours From the forested slopes of Lemosho you ascend through a podocarpus and juniper forest and then break out on to a zone of heather and lichen-draped volcanic rock and the Shira Plateau, which used to be Kilimanjaro’s third peak before it collapsed. Lunch is taken on the trail and you arrive in camp mid-afternoon. The view of Kibo (the peak of Kilimanjaro) is breathtaking from this vantage point. Overnight at Shira 1 Camp.

11,500 ft to 13,800 ft, 7 miles, 5-7 hours Crossing the Shira Plateau – one of the highest plateaus on Earth – is one of the most scenic parts of this trip during your 3-4 hour hike across moorland meadows to the lunch point. After lunch you ascend to Moir camp, arriving in the mid afternoon. If you have the energy, a hike in the late afternoon is possible in the surrounding Lent Hills, which makes this an excellent acclimatization opportunity. Overnight at Moir Hut.

13,800 ft to 15,223 ft (Lava Tower), down to 13,044 ft, 7km, 4-6 hours From Moir you traverse the slopes of Kibo. Here relatively little flora or fauna can survive the extreme temperature ranges and conditions that typify this zone. Lunch is normally taken close to a volcanic rock formation known as the Lava Tower. If you feel very strong there is an optional ascent of the 300-foot-tall Lava Tower before descending down to Barranco camp in the afternoon, passing through the strange yet beautiful ‘Garden of the Senecios’ (giant groundsel) which also features many giant lobelias. The Barranco Valley is one of the prettiest areas of the entire trail. Overnight at Barranco Camp.

13,044 ft to 13,123 ft, 3 miles, 4-5 hours You now have a relatively short day to reach Karanga Camp, after conquering the intimidating Barranco Wall. Be prepared to use all four limbs as you traverse the wall to the top of the Karanga Valley. From here, follow a path that sojourns through many inclines and declines to Karanga Camp, arriving in the late afternoon. Our selection of Karanga Camp is strategic – significant time at altitude is essential for safe acclimatization. Sunsets here are particularly spectacular with views of the southern glacial valleys and ice fields towering over 3000 feet above you. Overnight at Karanga Camp.

15,288 ft to 19,341 ft to 12,467 ft, 3 miles ascent, 7 miles descent, 7-8 hours ascent, 4-6 hours descent Today is another half day ascending to Barafu Camp. Once again lunch is taken in this high camp, allowing plenty of time to relax before the summit bid. Desolate alpine desert and, at times, strong winds rip over this camp, yet in the evenings splendid views of Mawenzi peak are the norm. A relatively early dinner is taken before resting for the evening. Overnight at Barafu Camp.

12,467 ft to 5,380 ft, 6 miles, 3-4 hours Depart just before midnight for the final summit bid. Patience and persistence is the name of game to reach the summit, and this is the coldest, windiest section of your adventure. Most likely by dawn, as the first rays of light start to appear across the Tanzanian landscape, you arrive near the rim at Stella Point, at an altitude of 18,652ft. Here, you are rewarded with the most glorious sunrise you are ever likely to see, appearing over Mawenzi Peak. Ascending via Stella Point affords a relatively short final section to Uhuru Peak, the Roof of Africa! After a short celebration at the summit, begin the ebullient trek down. Go slowly and enjoy the wonderful rainforest scenery as you head towards Mweka Camp, arriving before dusk. With every step the air has more and more oxygen so although your legs will be jelly your heart will be light. Overnight Mweka Camp

We had a wonderful trekking experience on the 8 day Lemosho route with Spirit of Kilimanjaro! Our guides Sanke and Joseph led us up the mountain skillfully, safely, and with care and kindness. They really went above and beyond to make sure we had a once in a lifetime experience. The chef prepared delicious meals that met our dietary restrictions, and the porters worked incredibly hard. The experience overall was 10/10. I recommend you add the warmer sleeping bag and do yourself a favor and add the personal toilet.

Nothing but good things to say about my experience with this company. The guides, Sanke and Joseph, are fun and professional, and left us feeling safe and informed. The food was beyond expectations and the porters were hard working with a smile. It was great to see the whole crew having fun together throughout the trek.

The journey was incredible, our principal guide, Rama, has been really helpfull and kind with us. He took the time to explain to us many things about the mountain, the flowers and everything and he really take care of us. His team was also incredible. Porters done an incredible job, the waiter as been at our services at every moment and so kind and the cooker is so good, that we think he should open a restaurant in Paris. We will keep those guys and the mountain in our memories for ever.

My warmest recommendations to Spirit of Kilimanjaro. The team were incredible and made sure that my family and I had a great experience on Kilimanjaro. My mom had issues with altitude sickness along the way and did not summit, however, Sanke, Paul and the incredible team of porters made sure that it was still a great experience for her, and among other things, offered to carry her day pack. Also, food was great and general support from the team was more than we could have expected. After Kilimanjaro, we went on a 2-day safari which was also really great - Victor was a fun and really skilled driver and guide 👏

If you really want to make your dream come true, contact William and tell him everything! He welcomes you from the start as his friend “my friend”, gives you advice for preparing the ascent and the list of equipment to have. I chose the Lemosho route for 8 days, finally made in 7 thanks to a team with great care and a top organization! You will never want anything, the team knows how to adapt. Thanks to Joseph my guide, to “mtotos” Emmanuel, to Hamis the waiter always with a smile, to Husein the cook a real chef at altitude, to Paskal my very humble porter “the old man”, to Raphael my other porter who does not deserve and to all the rest of these beautiful souls whose names I do not have but that I will never forget! William, little man at the feet of Kilimanjaro, you are at the top thanks to your kindness! Malagasy!

My friends and I had the adventure of a lifetime climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in June 2024, guided by the exceptional Yobu Eliamani Mbwambo. Opting for the 8-day Lemosho Route was the best decision, providing us with breathtaking scenery and the necessary acclimatization. Yobu’s expertise, encouragement, and infectious enthusiasm made the journey even more memorable. He ensured our safety, comfort, and enjoyment at every step. The camaraderie, stunning landscapes, and sense of achievement upon reaching the summit were indescribable. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide or experience. Highly recommend Yobu for anyone considering this incredible adventure.

We had a marvellous time climbing, or hiking I should say, Mount Kilimanjaro – a mythical place that takes you along its different zones to experience one of the most formidable hikes around the world. Spirit of Kilimanjaro, and in our case particularly William and Paul our two mountain guides, were there for us to make our dream come true. There was no request that they wouldn't consider, taking into account our inexperience as hikers. They, alongside their team of cooks and porters, were very supportive and discreet, allowing us (father and son) to enjoy this unique trip. Having extensive experience, we felt the comfort of being in the hands of professionals throughout the hike. And certainly, they did prove their expertise on summit day, a day (or night, I should say) with extremely windy conditions. It was unfortunate that these extreme conditions prevented us, and in fact everyone, from reaching the summit. My son, followed by two guides, pushed harder than I did (while I was escorted back to camp) to try to reach the summit – something that ultimately did not work out. They were there for him until the moment the attempt was aborted for everyone. Food, tents, and all extra accessories we requested were well taken care of. All in all, a fantastic experience one should not miss, especially if it's done with professional people like Spirit of Kilimanjaro

We did Lemosho route with 2 guides, Rama and Paulo. It was amazing, the guides understood our mood and adapted to us really quickly, we ended up doing the route in 6 days. We were lucky with the weather and avoided rain for the whole trip. Food was nice and porters were amazing. Service was awesome. We had fun and it helped us to keep a positive mind which is the real key for that trip. Thanks a lot team !
