Negombo Fish Market

Located near the Negombo Fort, this vibrant fish market is one of the largest in Sri Lanka and a bustling hub of activity, especially in the early morning. You can see fishermen bringing in their catch as early as 4:00 am. The market is famous for its fresh shrimp, crabs, and lobsters from the Negombo Lagoon, and large fish from the Indian Ocean.

St. Mary's Church

Negombo, influenced by the Christian faith since the Portuguese occupation, is often called "Little Rome" due to its many churches. Among them, St. Mary's Church stands out. Its construction began in 1874 and was completed in 1922. The church's art and architecture showcase a blend of European and Sri Lankan styles from the early 20th century.

Dambulla Cave Temple

The Dambulla Cave Temple is Sri Lanka's biggest and most well-kept cave temple complex, towering 160 meters above the plains. This sacred site has been a pilgrimage destination for 22 centuries, featuring five sanctuaries and impressive Buddhist mural paintings covering 2,100 square meters. Nine Arches Bridge

This scenic bridge, located between Ella and Demodara station at Gotuwala, is a picturesque spot. Known as the 'Bridge in the Sky,' the Nine Arch Bridge connects two mountains during the construction of the Badulla – Colombo railway. It measures 300 feet long, 25 feet wide, and rises 80-100 feet high, showcasing colonial-era railway construction. Made entirely of rocks, bricks, and cement, it contains no steel or metal.

At night, we go to the beach to see if big sea turtles are nesting. The Rekawa Turtle Conservation Project is vital for protecting these turtles that visit Sri Lanka's beaches, home to 5 of 7 endangered turtle species. The project safeguards nesting sites and helps conserve Loggerhead, Green, Hawksbill, Olive Ridley, and Leatherback turtles. Remember, in nature, it's possible not to see any turtles.

Polhena Beach

Polhena Beach is a stunning destination for beach lovers, offering beauty, marine life, and various activities that make it a must-visit. Sometimes, you might spot sea turtles grazing. Note: Please do not touch or feed the turtles! Polhena Beach is one of the safest beaches in Sri Lanka, with waist-high water.

The fort surrounds the older part of the town and is situated on a headland with three sides overlooking the sea. You can easily spend over two hours there, exploring many places and taking loads of amazing pictures.

Option 3 (Culture): Kande Viharaya is an ancient Buddhist temple in Sri Lanka, founded in 1734, featuring a gigantic Buddha statue. The temple is named "Kande Vihara" (Mountain Temple) because it is built on top of a hill near Aluthgama town. It has been formally recognized by the government as an archaeological site in Sri Lanka.
