  No fish guaranteed. Of course not. Sometimes it just doesn’t happen but if the down riggers are on top of the water and you’re fishing for deep sea fish it’s definitely not going to be guaranteed. Positives: great tour of the island from the ocean, great sandwich for lunch and a first mate that was pleasant. We did see flying fish and chased after birds. Negatives: this is a French speaking fishing trip, the first mate did okay but very little communication and non from the captain. The down riggers from two of the poles floated on top of the water, while the third was a little deeper but not much. I should have said something but I have always been a little timid. You aren’t going to catch deep sea fish with bobbers. Back to no fish guaranteed. We once again know that it happens but what usually doesn’t happen is a captain that sleeps 90% of the trip. The first mate gave more directions to the captain when she was alert. Would we recommend this trip; I’m sorry but we wouldn’t for the price. Just take a trip on a tour boat and catch a fish out of the bay. Your chances are greater and the price would have been better.

• The worst, UNSAFE fishing charter experience ever!

  So many things happened that made this trip one of our worst, unsafe experiences!! -boat captain with one working arm -no deckhand -checked fishing lines twice in 5 hours/tangled both times -left steering wheel unattended, boat in drive, and no attention to white cap waves and safety while tending to tangled lines The second time he checked the lines it took over 40 minutes to get everything untangled while he left the boat in drive, steering wheel unattended, and no attention to the rougher water. My husband tried to help him and ended up having to reel in all of his rods. It was apparent he was struggling, getting very agitated, and reactive. We were very concerned he was going to fall off the boat leaving us solo in his boat and putting us in a position of having to operate it and rescue him at the same time. Once the lines were situated then he came up to the ice chest, grabbed a beer, and told us “this is REALLY hard for me”!! We then decided to take the higher road and talk to him kindly trying to diffuse the situation as we were still out in the ocean with him. We were never rude to him or expressed any dissatisfaction. We wanted to get back safely!! Once we got back and off the boat safely I messaged him and asked for a discount as we know there are costs in taking a boat out, but we did not receive what he sold us and more importantly our safety was jeopardized. He responded that he didn’t have his deckhand because our trip was “last minute” and he did his best to make it enjoyable. He also stated, “I am sincerely sorry for these inconveniences, but the outing was of the same quality as usual despite my arm injury. There is no justification for a refund, even partial.” Bottom line is this Captain had NO business selling any fishing excursions with his injured condition, no deckhand, and the conditions of the waters. If you are looking for a fishing excursion with a native from the area and years of experience in chartering a boat, I would look elsewhere.

  

• Not a great day and in flexible rules re gear

  There was zero sign of life on the day we went and that is fishing so not the skippers fault. But there seemed no plan B other than trolling really heavy gear (set at max drag). We asked to bring some lighter gear to make things fun if we found a small work up. I think a skipper should allow people to bring their own gear if it is quality and up to the task. I just felt unless it was 200kg marlin the fight would not have been fun on the very heavy gear. Tbh the genie rail fishing in Moorea and Raitea has been very disappointing (terrible) so maybe it is a seasonal thing. But for a charter of this costs there should be plan B and C to at least try.

  We spent an exceptional day fishing with Moorea Évasion and our Guide, Laurent. From the very beginning, Laurent was able to put us at ease with his wise advice and his passion for fishing. His enthusiasm and desire to share his knowledge really made this experience one of the best of our stay in Moorea. We not only caught beautiful fish, but also learned a lot thanks to his patience and professionalism. A memorable day that we recommend without hesitation!   Memorable outing despite the weather being a little too wet. Laurent is very professional and friendly. He knows the fishing spots. The boat is large, recent and the fishing equipment is perfect. Result: two great shots that Laurent even offers to enjoy at home around a barbecue!
